  1. Try measuring your 38 super bullets and 9mm bullets. They are same thing. Some 9mm bullets measure same as 38 sup(.356). I'm thinking that they are all made from same mold. Not positive but it sure seems that way.

I've got an STI in 38 super with the Schuemann Barrel and STI comp. and three poppel holes on top. I've tried various powders and primers (including small rifle primers), with my 125gr. jhp bullets. It seems that I have to use more powder than the recipes I've seen posted to get to major. At about 1300fps +/- I start to see signs of overpressure in the primer, i.e. flattening, and near-piercing. Do any of you have any suggestions for powder/primer/bullet combination for me to try?

    Thanks,

    Mick

I have a sheuman barrel also in 38 sup. I use IMR 7625 7.3gr W/zero 125gr jhp. makes major no problems.

  2. Has anyone had a good experience with the Yavapai fixture? It seems that several of you have found this fixture to be undersized.

Check pin distances on that jig. Make sure they are same as on your gun. A good purchase is external pins

I use a Marvel sear jig (583-000-001) to work on the sear and a clamp & feeler gauge to work on the hammer and it seems me to work really fine and obviously a eye loupe 10X. Cheap equipment for the best result. ;)

    Hello,

On that marvel jigW/egw sear, did you have to adjust the screw on side inwards to get proper angle for sear?

  3. I have a sti bare slide. I want to lighten it up. I still have not made any sight cuts yet, I'm probably going with a bo-mar rear and dawson front. Do I have to make sight cuts first, before I make any other cuts? I know want to flatten the top. How deep do I cut the flat top? does any body know which cutters I will need for rear bo-mar and also front for a dawson front sight?

  4. Anybody have any opinion on swithing uppers on pistols. I'm thinking instead of building a whole new pistol- just build another upper (new sti slide & barrell fitted)and keep same frame. 38 super open to a 38 super limited. any advice? I am assuming that a new slide will fit my existing frame(both sti) as far as width. But for the height I will probably have to file slide to fit. Didn't get new slide yet so I'm for now curious to see if anybody has done this.

  5. Want to learn how to fit a barrel on my sti 2011 frame. Can anybody tell me if a bull barrel is easier to fit in 9mm opposed to a bushing barrel. I'm using a standard sti frame-non ramped. Also I want to keep the gun as light as possible. I assume a bushing barrel is lighter, not positive about that, but if its a lot harder to fit for a first timer then I"ll go with the bull barrel.

    Thanks
