Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Catch - I shoot at central and Southwest Florida matches and have shot at Altair before. That’s probably the only range where you are going 400+ unless you are shooting at USA in Frostproof where it’s common to get out there. Manatee my local range is mostly a 300 yard range but we can go out farther. If you plan on shooting majors I would recommend a 18 but for locals and some long range you can get by with a 16 inch. I have a JP-15 with the 18 inch and it’s a very nice rifle. Put a LPVO on it and you can go out to 600 easy. I have a couple other rifles from DD a 16 and 18 and the 16 is fun to shoot in bays but after 500 yards and cold temps I’m always wanting a 18.
  2. I won a pair at Area 6 MG last year off the prize table and I wear them all the time. Indoors and outdoors, bright sun or overcast and I don’t have to switch out sunglasses to clear glasses before I shoot like I used to have to. I just don’t like shooting in sunglasses through scopes as it sometimes changes contrast on targets, esp. long distance targets so I would do this switch of glasses. Now I just rock my Golds all day. They might not be the style that I want but I don’t have to worry about my eyes being protected or not being able to see. I always thought it crazy that some of are looking through optics that are thousands of dollars while we have a 25 cent piece of scratched up plastic between our eyes and the lens. Brian is a great guy and he always takes the time to speak to me on the range when I see him.
  3. Whatever ABarrow says is the shotgun gold in our parts of Manasota counties. He's the trap lord. My 28' M2 hits 5-7 inches low at 50-100 yards. On the steel plates in yesterdays match I had to hold on the bottom of the plate for a 70 yard slug hit. You can bend barrels or just use hold unders/overs. I find it's easier to hold low for something with a shotgun than having to hold high so I just pick an aiming point and let fly. I don't notice that big of a difference when I run my barrel clamp but every time you put it on and take it off it could possibly change your impact. I doubt like a rifle that it's changing barrel harmonics but rather moving the actual barrel zero. Fly
  4. I like my 28 inch tube and can double for a turkey gun. You can also get away with a more open choke. Some will argue that it’s to long for getting in and out of ports, but that’s a dumb argument when we all run 12rd tubes. It adds little no weight unless you are comparing it to a 22 or shorter and a 12rd tube sticks out just a few inches lower than the barrel.
