Not the point. The rules prohibit it

This is fair, and its a discussion in the rules forum so is the best answer.  👍

As an aside, the discussion related to the permutations of "loading up" and "unloading" in the parking lot are interesting and probably have been the subject of many discussions. As noted in Central Texas, we typically get the statement by the match director to handle that at a safe table or berm under RO supervision. Its interesting that other areas may be diffferent.

You going to let them break 180 too?

    Law beats rules.

All you have to do is follow the rules for their competition piece.

Back to the OP, I don't see how this could be an issue. The competitor asked what to do.

At least he is not the cop who refused to unload his off duty gun at a match "I am required to be armed at all times."  Wishy-washy MD let him shoot.

In some jurisdictions and units that is correct.

  4. So a PoPo walks up to the line, forgets his carry is loaded (assuming he is not shooting that) and asks what to do.

Tell him what to do and go to the next shooter on the list. Why is this even a thread?

Exactly.  In fact you better be armed running around in this crazy world.  Expecting competitive shooters to roll to a match unarmed is just unrealistic.  For IDPA matches lately, I've been driving to the match with my match gun unloaded and holstered with two loaded mags on my belt.  Just to keep me from leaving a gun in the truck to be stolen.  I go home the same way.

I do not know about other states. I do know that in Texas, there will be a fair portion of LTC guys. That are universally told NOT to degun in the car as its more of a safety hazard.  Having someone grab an RO to degun is common.

I know nothing about IDPA, but you really can not take a sight picture when given make ready?

No you cannot. Nor can you airgun. You do get a walkthrough when the SO is doing their course of fire and after, its just a group thing and the squad doesn't fart around for ten minutes.

On the flipside, how often to you get to shout of a van?

To the topic, I am surprised.  If its an issue, the SO could say don't do that. i don't see where its a DQ type offense.

I think shreds idea of a giant Nationals with a thousand shooters doesn't sound horrible. I've been discussing this stuff on other social media as well and I've heard several good ideas to reduce cost, no dumb ideas like docking the guys that are working.

The only immediate issue, is that the "Super" National has to be held in an area that supports hotels sufficient for that number of shooters. Some ranges are...remote.

Production was screwed up from beginning. Should have been irons,no ports, fits box w/mag, capacity full or what's legal in state where match is.

I would also say major/minor to keep sport loyal to its beginning but I know that ship sailed.

IIRC but the division was set up to compete with IDPA's SSP yes?

Just my opinion, but I doubt capacity matters for issues of Production popularity.  Just as with revolvers, technology has advanced.  Carry optics are rapidly becoming the standard with police and as such will become the industry standard presently.

    USPSA members seem to fall into one of four groups;

    1. Just want to shoot on weekends at L1 matches, interested in their classification, rarely shoots outside of their area but may do a State match if it’s close.
    2. Serious competitor, uses L1 matches as practice for State, Area and maybe Nationals
    3. Foreign members who want the magazine and may shoot USPSA classifiers in their own country.
    4. People who don’t shoot at all

In 2022 I think there were around 17-23,000 people who shot at least one USPSA or SC match, which would mean about 12,0000 didn’t shoot at all. This statistic was notably absent from the latest DME report.

A smaller organization could easily meet the demands of the first two. A valid classification system is not that hard, and States can organize their own State and Area matches and let the org do a single Nationals.

I suspect that if the organization was a lot smaller and had a lot less revenue it would probably function better.

Its like the government, give it too much money and it grows to an unsustainable level, and makes everyone unhappy.

To be fair, its not much money actually.  Same annual revenues as a moderate church in the South.

Now the expenses make me go...what??? But thats for a different board.

Hit factor matches may be the bee's knees for clubs that don't want to support USPSA right now, but want to stay involved in the space - and have matches.

FWIW I shot an 85-ish shooter club match today (in Area 4).  About five people cared why a different local USPSA club was going to Hit Factor matches, the rest couldn't care less.

It was cold Saturday morning wasn't it.  Good to see the club hit a new range record for attendance.

dont use chalk. It will gunk up your gat and make it more slippery than what it is with little sweat. A rosin ball works great if you can find one. If you cant then use pro grip or something even tennis grip

You can get rosin at the sporting goods store.  Just get it in the baseball section.

Also, unlike USPSA, 15 rounds vs. 10 rounds is rarely an advantage in IDPA.  It’s great on a 14 round stage, but ammo management is more difficult when the reload is later in the stage.  Keeping up with what is left in the mag/extra shots is easier with four or five targets than with seven or eight.

This is an excellent point. When I was running SSP, the change was cool for about one match, then everyone reset slightly to  insure I was always doing a reload regardless.  Further with the 18 round limitation, most matches were already at 17 or 18 rounds.  Its really no different.

  12. My bad: there is an outline:

2024 IDPA Rulebook Changes/Additions 8.5.1.6 Outside the waist holsters must carry the firearm in a neutral (vertical) or muzzle rear cant and may not protrude more than 3" (7.62cm) out from the shooter's body as measured from the front of the holster. Amongst approved items is a polygraph test for BOD members to identify internal leaks. This may run afoul of Delaware law that could restrict the use of such devices for employees, not sure of the BOD are considered employees though they do receive an expense account. There is also the issue of the WhistleBlower protections administered by the Department of Labor.

    Thats pretty nutty, actually.
