Looks for Match

Looks for Match (2/11)

  1. Yes, way too old. Hang it up and write me a check for all your money. Address to follow ... Just kidding! I’m 66 and just tried my first competition. I sucked. But I had a great time and met some good guys. Now I’m dry firing to get used to my Trijicon optic on my G17C and next time I’ll suck less, then next I’ll suck even lesser until I don’t suck anymore. At least I hope so.
  2. Quick question for any forum members in Southern California.

Where do you practice? Most shooting ranges won’t let you work on draw and fire presentations leaving you just standing flat footed poking holes in paper - though that’s certainly better than nothing. I go to the desert and practice but that requires camping overnight which limits the frequency I can go.

    Any recommendations?

  3. Yeah, all the advice I’ve received on this forum has been helpful, e.g., removing the open sights, dry fire till the cows come home, target focus not dot focus, etc. Now all I need to do is reps then more reps. Thanks!
  4. If my lightswitch was a target it would be obliterated, haha, been shooting it to pieces!shooting targetlight
  5. Yes, muzzle down, that helps ...
  6. First time to compete in a pistol competition last night and it’s still kind of a blur. Deepest thanks to kneelingatlas and Chris for breaking the ice. I sucked pretty badly but it was FUN! Definitely going to compete some more.

  7. Congratulations, wish I could have been there.
  8. Took the open sights off todayopen sights
  9. Ok, I’ll ask another question. I’ve got several other good handguns with open sights. I’ve always been a fairly decent shot with them. Should I use one of these (.45, .40, 9mm) instead of my G17C, 2nd gen., with the RMR for competitions? I have yet to enter my first since yesterday I got snagged in a police chase that shut down the 5 freeway near Camp Pendleton and couldn’t make it to a Steel Challenge.
  10. I just tried to reply to two posts from “helloOoOo” and “MemphisMechanic.” Not sure what I’m doing wrong cause my replies don’t follow the post I’m replying to. New to forum ...
  11. Dry fire practice has improved my draw and fire time with the RMR to approx. 1.7 sec. I’m not sure what it should be at my age and experience but I’ve cut it down from 2.25. I’m going to keep practicing with it for now since I invested $$ on the RMR, milling, and suppressor ready sights. I’d like to see how I do once I get some competitions under my belt. Thanks for the advice!
  12. Thanks. That’s the second remove the irons advice. Thinking it over ...
  13. I’m turning 66 tomorrow. I’m just now thinking about competing in Super Senior. Got to keep up the skills. Tried to make it to Oceanside yesterday for first event but got snarled by the car chase on the 5 freeway and couldn’t make it. Better luck next time. I think I can shoot with the other geezers just finebut we’ll see. Jerry Mikulek is my geezer hero!
