Definitely not an easy powder to meter.  I have a Hornady LNL and their powder drop is one of the better designs on the market.  Actually chrono'ed today.  5 shots Avg. Vel was 1010 fps the extreme spread was 42 fps.

Amen to you for getting a shotgun powder to behave that well in a very small quantity !

The next time I buy some some 147gr bullets, I am going to try your recipe, ver batum !

It sounds like it will work just fine!

Speaking of powder, check out the latest issue of the American Rifleman, I assume everyone here gets it ?

There is a fantastic article about the Hodgden powder company, that traces the entire history of the company.

Pay special attention to the quantity of powder Mr. Hodgdon was able to buy from the government, what he paid for it and how it was shipped !

Can you say F**K hazmat fees ? !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Judging from the photo I’d say you had FTE’s because your rifle is way over sprung for your bolt weight. I’m sure if you took out two of those spacers the problem would be gone.

I have the weight out of my bcg and it is MUCH better than with it in! ( Taccom3 buffer system)

A FTE happens for one reason, the bolt didn't go far enough rearward to spit the case out. Now , two things could cause this............ over sprung buffer or underpowered ammo.( if it stuck in the chamber, quit reloading and buy factory ammo !)

This whole deal sure is a puzzle with moving parts, isn't it ?

Fun as hell, but very frustrating !

135grn Blue Bullets with 2.9grn of ClayDot @1.125 oal.  Soft shooting @ 137pf

Out of curiousity, how is the consistency in your rounds recoil wise ? Or better put, do you occasionally weight the powder charge as you go ?

The reason I ask is physics. My experience has been that flaky shotgun powders, ( Clays, Clay dot, Unique) load great in shotgun weights, 17-19gr. In small quantities they get hinky because of the lack of mass.

Clays is pretty decent, I have loaded it in handgun loads for years. I loaded some .40S&W with 700X once for someone and it sucked ass at best ! Never tried Clay Dot for handgun, only trap loads .

  4. I just went plunking around on the Everglades web site, because I am going to need more bullets ! I will be switching from Xtreme to something else, in a while. I still have 3000 to load and about 500 to shoot, I just got them a week or so ago. My luck so far has been great, but I see some on here would disagree. Not to mention the facebook says they are going out of business, could be BS, Zuckerberg hates guns and gun related stuff.( But, if you ever saw the Phil Robertson clean a catfish  video he thinks the same of Zuckerberg !)

Has anyone ever tried the plated variety ?

The Odin release fits the New Frontier style lowers, according to their site.

They have 2 models of their release, one fits the NFA lower, the other the QC10 style. I was reerring to the NFA lowers, not familiar with QC10,other than many here like them .

By the pic on the Odin website they look the same. Neither one looks like a traditional AR mag release.

  6. 6 hours ago, Acer2428 said:

To the OP, I got an Odin and I can tell you the leverage you obtain over the stocker is MASSIVE, which is a nice benefit. Mag play seemed to be about the same, but that was vs. a brand new plastic one.

I was hoping someone would say something like that ! The Odin shipped today, so I should know by Thursday .

    12 hours ago, Tampa-XD45 said:

The mag release is just an external button and has almost nothing to do with magazine fit unless the mag catch spring is dead or the mag catch is too far out.  The magazine catch is what holds the magazine in place.  You can screw in your mag catch a couple more revolutions and see if the tighter fit helps with your loose mag fit.  See the how to link here:  LINK

I'm thinking you found the wrong thread ? This 9mm deal is one piece, all from the right side of the receiver, no adjustment possible.

It doesn't go through the lower receiver like the mag release/catch does on a .223 lower, this one grabs the mag on the right side, not the left.( as you are looking down on the gun )

Just an FYI,  I have the Odin mag relaease, and I also have the old gen1 KNS anti-walk pins in the lower.  Those two items do not play well together!!!!  The mag will insert, but the pins are too wide on the outside, and the extension will not allow the button to be pushed in far enough to real ease the mag.  Not sure how other generations of pins work.

The Odin website says their release works with the KNS pins, maybe it doesn't?

I made my own pins that have a simple button head SS screw threaded into each end. Damn near flush and will never get in the way of anything.

My bigger concern was hoping the Odin release has a bigger end that fits into the slot on the mags so they have less room to move up and down ? The plastic one that came in the lower has a lot of room for the mag to move.

  8. I also have the Taccom3 buffer and tried the bolt both ways, it was much softer without the weight. I never had even one failure to do anything that I thought was causd by the weight being out of the bolt. All the problems I have had, and they have been very few and far between are mag related.

Now..................my experience with Titegroup has been it is very snappy. Take that for what it's worth but I am guessing you know what I mean ?

115gr plated bullets from Xtreme.................... 3.0gr Clays

                                                                                      3.5gr Universal

                                                                                      4.2gr Power Pistol

                                                                                      4.8gr IMR 4756

All achieved decent minor PF velocity with soft or hardly any recoil. Granted, that is my barrel, my gun, my chronograph. You should always verify for yourself but these are all powders I had that I tried and they all worked.

I got my delrin rods at Grainger and had to sand the OD down so they would fit inside the extension tube, then cut them with a Mitre saw...  It would be better to make them using a lathe, but...  you use what you have

I would bet dollars to doughnuts the worst part of that process was actually finding the piece of delrin you cut off !

If it got bound up in the blade guard on your miter box, all is good!

If it cleared the blade guard and bounced off the wall, good luck !

FYI, I am guessing you had to buy at least a 3' length, cut another one !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Glock mags or something else?

For some strange reason my USPSA PCC will not feed 33 round glock mags.  They have a lot of play in them.  I switched to ETS mags and the play and loading issues are gone.

My Glock big stick with the TF+10 basepad has been hinky from the beginning, but the rest were all fine. Last match I had an issue with the one that has the MBX mini on it. It had been 100% up until that stage. I peeled about 10 rounds out of it at " make ready" and loaded them into the ETS I had on my belt. I finished the rest of the match with the ETS mags and no issue. Not sure what is up with the Glock mags ?

  11. I have the Taccom3 buffer system and tried it with and without the BCG weight.

Much softer and smoother with the weight out, but as stated above it is a relationship between your BCG, the buffer system and your ammo.

Only you can answer your question .....................................................

  12. Thanks, thanks, thanks and thanks !

I'm thinking I will order one right now, the plastic one seems quite sloppy.

I was trying out my dreaded Glock big stick with the TF +10 base pad again today. I wasn't shooting, just cycling rounds through the gun in the basement. A few stuck straight into the barrel extension, on the bottom side.( If I get my home made feed ramp figured out, this may be a moot point ) The first two I dumped out. On the third one, I took the gun under the big light and actually looked in there. When I saw what was going on, I hit the mag on the bottom, pushing it up a bit and the round chambered !

I had no idea there was that much up and down play in a magazine,. never tried it before.

Maybe this will eliminate some of the play in the mag, and at the same time make the feeding process all the more reliable ?

  13. Does anyone use an aftermarket mag release ? I noticed I have a lot of up and down play on the Glock mags. I took the mag release out and it is plastic and a bit worn. Odin Gunworks kept popping up, it is aluminum. Does this release eliminate some of the up and down play ?

I liked the Extreme 124gr right up until our PCC match this weekend where I had to shoot targets at 75 yards. They grouped fine out of my Taccom ULW barrel at 20 yards, but at 75 yards they shot a 5’, that’s foot with a capital F, group. After the stage I shot from a rest to make sure it wasn’t me. It wasn’t. I then had a buddy shoot them in his ULW and he had roughly the same group size at about 4’. I guess I won’t be shooting these again in this barrel, unless distance is limited to pistol ranges.

I just bought 4000 115gr Xtreme bullets, 3000 left to load. I have never had an issue with them, maybe I got lucky so far ? I am thinking next time around Everglades or something else mentioned by others here.

But......................... to shoot at a target 75yds away with basically a 5" pistol barrel and complain about not holding a 1"group is a bit unfair I would say.

I have never bench rested my M&P, but I bet at 75yds it would be quite the different story than at 20yds .

I would have no problem throwing a Ben Franklin on the table and betting you I could hold a respectable group at 75yds with my gun fitted with a 16" barrel.  The definition of respectable would have to be agreed upon before hand. If time allows Saturday, I will give it a try, then post a pic of my Ben Franklin and issue a formal challenge!?

  15. 3 hours ago, stick said:

Actually it's a tension barrel that's 13" pinned and welded to 16" Called the Feather Weight.  The 5" barrel  doesn't have a brake attached and the shroud is aluminum and they are called the ULW Barrel.  Sorry for the correction, but I have both.

Oops, I knew what  I meant.?????

This is way too much effort for zero gain.

The zero gain part is yet to be determined......................................

Every bit of effort up to this point, including reading all the posts here are intel into the PCC building bank ! As an example, and I assume your comment is placed here because you have been following my journey ?

In my original post I told how I left the match and went home to try to fix my gun. The only reason I left the range is because I knew EXACTLY what I was going to do when I got home, otherwise I would have stayed and ran the other guys on my squad.  I stated I took my barrel out and wacked the orientation pin off so I could index the barrel to a point where my feed ramp would not feed.

The only reason I thought of that was an earlier post on here where someone showed the Taccom 5" barrels with the carbon fiber tube and the muzzle brake , sold with out an orientation pin to allow the end user to index the barrel for the muzzle brake.? ?

It may or may not make much, or any difference on this gun ?

But the next, and the next ??????????????????????????????????

This is probably completely lame and I apologize ahead of time but I have no other option.

I set up to follow you on Instagram  and I saw your video about your loose not really for gas gas key on you PCC bcg. I said " nice catch" and then clicked on the balloon you told me in this post to click on to post something and nothing happened.

Truth be told the only reason I went there was to watch shooting videos, yours are pretty sweet and Max has all his stuff there as well. I am finding Lena Mickulek to be very  entertaining also. ( that was per your suggestion)

I will most likely never put much of anything on there but the ability to post a comment would be nice. As I said earlier, it shouldn't be this hard. ( Or more likely I was born 30 years too late ! )

I just bought 4000 115gr RN bullets from Xtreme, 1000 in and still all good.

If they do go belly up, I will probably go to Berry's or maybe check out the Everglades ? A few here seem to like them and talk them up.

If cost wasn't an issue, I would load FMJ exclusively ! Problem is, to punch holes in paper up close , it is hard to justify the cost of most FMJ bullets.

If someone has an inside line on FMJ 9mm bullets that compare to plated price wise, I am all ears !

    You've already done the hard/stupid part ;)

I accept and deserve every bit of that one !

I shot the gun tonight  with my new feed ramp/ejection port clearance pointed at the ejection port. It ran 100%, just like it did before I earned the stupid part of your post!

I have a match this Sunday and next, I think after that one I will play with this some more. One after that is second Sunday of October, gives me a bit of time. This thing should just swallow up 9mm rounds, and I think it will. Just needs a bit more attention on my part. The other option is to do what I should have done in the first place..................... take the damn barrel to work and set it up in a vice at the correct angle, pick up center on the barrel and work the ramp in with a .375 endmill !

I have one more swing at this  with some paper and finesse', besides it's way more bad ass to do this by hand as opposed to using the mechanical advantage .

Thanks for the support and motivation !

That sounds to me like there is a sharp edge digging into the case. It does appear that there might be a couple of sharp points at the top of your ramp where it transitions into the chamber.  I would widen the bottom of the ramp, and try to blend the edge of the ramp with the existing cone so there are no high spots that the round can catch on.

There were small pieces of brass in there, but even with my best cheaters I couldn't tell where it was rubbing. This may be a winter project, we are done after October. Thank you again for the good info.

  21. 3 hours ago, Acer2428 said:

To me it looks like the ramp dog-legs from right to left. Rounds are likely hitting the ramp 2/3 of the way up and getting pinched. You want it to taper down towards the chamber, but it almost looks like you've got it the other way around. I'd open up the bottom of the ramp and I think you'll like it. I also dremel'd my 5.5" BA barrel as an experiment and it seems to work just fine, but I was working with colt mags which required an even wider taper.

Thanks for the info, that is why I posted this!
