Thought I’d make a quick video during yesterday dryfire. Turned out to be much more text than I expected.

Trying to get away from longer format videos. Definitely not adding music anymore(thanks for the feedback!), let me know if this low effort format is still useful, or if I need to get back to text/bulletPoints and/or improve sound quality.

This one was shot with no script, so I apologize if chapters look out of order.

    Hope this helps.

I always get something out of your videos.  Thanks for posting them

Rob Leathem said in one of his videos,

"Small stages are about the points. Big field courses will reward time a little more"

If they can shoot alphas as fast as possible, relative to difficulty of target, than both things become mostly equal and you don't have to sacrifice one for the other

Thanks.  I'm going to remember this one and keep it on my back pocket to use when this invariably gets asked again.

  3. Recently I've been teaching and coaching newer competitive shooters on the finer points of USPSA stages.  They all have a great time and learn a ton, but almost every time they ask me the same question - "Which is more important in USPSA: speed, or accuracy?"  And really, I don't have a good answer for it, other than "it depends".

Now, I know that someone has done the math here with regard to the ratio of HF to time and points, but for the life of me I can't seem to find it. My gut instinct is that lower HF stages with fewer targets are biased towards greater accuracy, as a Charlie or Delta hurts more than on a longer stage, and higher HF or stages with more points available are biased towards speed.  Does that sound right?  Does it even make sense?

If anyone has a good explanation that they've used before, I'm eager to hear it.  Anything other than "It depends"!

  4. I've had minimal issues so far with the Romeo3XLs that I've been using on my open guns.  Had to send my first one back to Sig because I broke the side buttons after turning the optic on/off at every range and dry fire session.  Now I just let the shake awake feature do its thing, and it's running great.

Very doubtful. Take PCC division and change the rules to only allow 171.25 mags but major scoring but only with a PCC with a brace (that you can't shoulder), and see how many people would shoot it. Not many, I would bet.

Use the right tool for the job...you wouldn't use a crescent wrench to drive nails if a hammer were available.

Why couldn't you shoulder it?  As I posted earlier, 5.1.10 says that you can't use handguns with stocks, but I couldn't find anything in the rulebook that disallowed shouldering a braced pistol.

And Racinready300ex kinda made my point for me with regard to mags: even though you'd have to contend with some reloads, shooting major ammo out of a PCC-type "handgun" would be pretty game-changing.

EDIT: If you took the forearm/fore-grip off of the front and just handled the front of the magwell, I think that would still be legal.

  6. Is there anything that would prevent you from running a PCC *with a brace* in open division?  Rule 5.1.10 prohibits "Handguns with shoulder stocks and/or fore grips of any kind", but since a brace is not a stock and the braced firearm is still considered a handgun, what prevents you from doing that?

I know this is an incredibly gamer kind of question, but so far I don't see anything in the rulebook that would prevent it.  You'd have to have a holster, of course.

Turn your dot brightness down. Most of the time when people have "Dot focus" issues its because their dot brightness is jacked up so high that you literally CAN'T focus on anything else. To me the perfect dot brightness is low enough that I can almost see targets through it. This is especially important when shooting aggressively and the dot is streaking across the glass.

^^This is great advice.  Turning down the dot really helped me to stop fixating on it.

I like the gun but the grip is so frikin skinning it’s difficult to hold well with my support hand.  Once I run the gun doing something like a bill drill it’s tough to stay accurate as I’d like.  I really wish they would make a grip module with a wider grip.    That’s probably the biggest reason I personally prefer the 43x over the XL.   Now with the 15 round option the 43x is pretty sweet.  XL is a nice shooter though, like  it much more the the 365.

I've run into this problem a bit, and found a solution for it on Reddit of all places. Hogue makes a really slick grip sleeve for the 365 and XL that widens the grip just enough to give you more purchase on the gun without sacrificing concealability - https://www.hogueinc.com/grips/handall-grip-sleeves/beavertail/sig-sauer-p365/p365-xl

It makes the little Sig much more pleasant to shoot

Thanks man! I been reading up and watching videos and went to the range. Finally got it zeroed at 15 yards. Once I figured it out it all made sense and was pretty easy. Thanks for the advice and yes LETS GO BRANDON!!!!

    Let's not do that here

  10. Option 1 is probably your best bet.  As others have said, having a slide-mounted dot on a minor gun is perfectly fine, and you could even run it in 3gun if you ever decide to try that out.  One other thing you might consider is going with an aluminum grip instead of steel.  All of the guns you've configured will be quite heavy, and in a game like SC where you're more concerned with transition speed than anything else, having an aluminum grip will allow you to swing the gun just a bit faster.  Just something to think about.
