  3. I am going to have my A-01 cut for an optic so may get the slide DLC coated but Bakerjd has a good idea, get the whole thing done and do a little "de-horning" at the same time.

  4. The A-01 is not a true custom gun, hand fitter yes like the S2 Orange but not custom.  Shop around and you will find most custom gun s guns go for 5K and up.  2K is not cheap but the hard chrome is over 3K and probably a great finish.

I agree the finish on the A-01 is marginal but you get a machined frame as opposed to the S2 cast.

A plunk test will give you direction.

Always plunk and spin.  Different guns from the same manufacturer may have (slightly) different chamber dimensions.  Do your own test

  6. Inconsistent powder drop (or powder shacking out of brass as shell plate indexes). Variance in seating (not putting the same pressure on the handle.   Lots of others including chrono.  Crimping would be way down the list.

Do 20 or so measuring each powder drop, look for any spilled powder, adjust to make each as close as possible.

Measure COL on each round (different manufacturers have close tolerances.

Try to use the same pressure on each round.

    Re-check with chrono.

How long have you been reloading?  What powder and bullets are you using.  AND must important is your ammo accurate.  Having a small SD is nice but accuracy and reliability is what is important.  Chrono factory loads and you might be surprised at the amount of variance.

  7. I did a comparison in several 9 MM pistols between Federal SPP and CCI SRP.  I consistently got slightly more velocity from the SRP.

As an example in my CZ A-01 with 3.5 gr. VV N-320 and 135 Bear Creek RN coated bullets I got a 10 shot ave. of 979.8 fps with a SD of 13 using the SPP

and 984.6 with an SD of 11 using SRP.  This held true for all 5 pistols I tested.  All velocities are at 10 feet.

This seems typical for others doing this same comparison.  YMMV

On a side note the A-01 and Bull Shadow had the highest velocities.  Perhaps because of the bull barrels??

All velocities were recorded using a Labradar.

  8. I had a similar issue with an SP-01 (but at a much higher round count), the extractor had a TINY chip on the claw and would not pull the spent brass all the way out.  It was only visible (with my old eyes) under magnification.  New extractor solved the problem, but I was worried during my first competition.

Good luck on your lvl 3 event.

At the time when I bought it there weren't many options.  I'm not sure if there's anything better out there for training purposes.

Thanks, I should have asked if there were any other options, it's the only one that showed up from a Google search.
