  1. Not long. I put maybe a teaspoon of each in a dixie cup and dropped them in the freezer. An hour later both were frozen. Not much thickness on the gun either and it will cold soak very quick but the real question is the gun. How long will it take to freeze? And in Canada and right now, I'm betting that's not long!

Thanks very much. I have to clean the gun tonight anyway; maybe I'll reactivate the M1 for tomorrow.

  2. Well just like I thought. Froglube came out of the freezer solid as a rock. Fireclean wasn't quite as bad but was still plenty firm enough to lock up your gun. FC also took considerably less time to thaw. Both of them had the visual appearance of what Johnsons paste wax would be if you froze it.

For comparison my my synthetic oil mixed with synthetic wheel bearing grease (NLGI#2) mixed at 2:1 ratio (2 parts oil) would still drop off of a tongue depressor pretty freely. Freezer temp is set at 0 degrees F.

How long did the FC take to freeze up?

I have an outdoor match tomorrow morning and it's supposed to be cold....

  3. In addition to grip pressure, make sure the weak hand is properly rolled over with index finger wedged hard under the trigger guard and base knuckle of thumb fitted into the notch created by the middle knuckle of the strong hand. This keeps the wrist as high as possible relative to the axis of recoil. Thumb rests on thumb. The heels of the hands should be in firm contact with each other at the back strap, with no air spaces between them.

Good recoil management comes from the combination of correct wrist angle, wrist pivot offset (the weak hand wrist is in front of the strong hand wrist), hand position relative to bore axis, grip pressure, proper arm extension and body mass position. Note that if your arms aren't extended enough (not locked at the elbows) the wrist offset hand position and grip pressure mechanical advantages will be diminished, resulting in greater muzzle flip.

  4. Sounds like it was contaminated with the previous lubricant.

I have FC on several guns that have been sitting in my safe since last winter with absolutely no change in viscosity at tall. I've used it to about -10 Celsius, again with no change. Very stable stuff in my opinion. Best lube I've used so far.

  5. Well that's the thing; the dot is just there when I want it to be. It does lift a little, but it returns instantly with no dive or oscillation, ready to fire the instant I have the gun reset. I've been playing with springs a little as well and the spring in that video still wasn't dialed in. Shot it last night with what I think will be the final setup and it was even faster to return. So far I'm really liking it, which is why I have to ask, what am I missing? No way am I ever that lucky....

The loads I've been working with up til now I am convinced are probably best in guns that have ported barrels, as they reach their peak volume earlier.

  6. Yeah, info has been sparse.

    Basic load info so far:

13.6 gr. LG X 124 grain Aim Projectiles hard cast plated (local Canadian made) @ 1.235" coal. CCI small rifle magnum primer. This was based off of existing published Hodgedon load data. 1360 to 1390 fps so no issues making major. Spoke to a rep at Hodgedon and he suggested a standard primer because it's a low pressure load, though very high volume. The magnum rifle primer seems to give better ignition and about 30 fps higher velocities than standard magnum pistol primers.

Also tested with small rifle, small pistol magnum and small pistol. Velocities adjust up or down depending on primer, though major is no problem either way.

  7. It's R&D season now and I have been largely dissatisfied with the loads I have been running the last year. Most current loads and (intermittently) available powders tend to favor guns with barrel ports, which I do not have. Accordingly, does anyone have any experience with Hodegdon Lil' Gun in .38 Super(comp)?

Bedell 7 chamber comp, no ports, 5.5" bbl.

My experience so far: Monstrously loud, concussive indoors, obnoxious, fire breathing dragon, but flat and fast as hell at 171 pf. Yes, I know I blew the draw.

    This should work now:

    What am I missing here....?

    Thanks loads

    Rob

  8. Hey Gord:

You know if you want to get around the whole reloading thing, you might be able to get 9 major or 38 SC ammo made for you. Wolf for instance will load that stuff. That way you could experience the rush of shooting a compensated Open gun without the hassle of loading for it.

Whenever you get back, I can let you feel the difference between regular 9mm and 38 SC major if you like.

  9. Rosin bag works pretty well in all but the hottest days. What works best for me is this stuff: http://www.daddiesboardshop.com/mob-coarse-grit-black-11-inch-width-griptape

It is very coarse and extrememly grippy. Sticks very well if the grip frame is degreased when you apply it, then if you run a bead of super glue gell around the underside of the edges and press it down, it won't come off untill you take it off. Acetone dizzolves the glue for removal.
