  1. I built a 2011 lower with a  Nelson custom that exactly matched my Steelcat SC Open guns. Even added 6 oz to the plastic 2011 .22 mags to match loaded 10 round 9mm mags. Same grip same sight etc... Actually couldn't tell if I was drawing and sighting the 9mm or 22 until it went boom. Very effective practice indoors during our long CT winter.

  2. I would guess you are asking for trouble if you remove the weight and shoot full power ( 130 PF ) ammo. I'm sure that Ruger designed the system considering Newtons second and third law. So while the momentum (force) generated by 130PF ammo is within original design limits, if the mass of the bolt is reduced the bolt will be accelerated to a higher velocity. Not sure what the result of this would be in practice, but probably not good.

However, if the load is reduced to 110 PF, such as those used for Steel Challenge, then I'd guess that a reduction in the mass would be OK since the force acting on the bolt is lower. Would have to do some math to calculate how much is possible. In fact, reducing bolt mass might actually be necessary to get the gun to cycle reliably.

  3. When I pulled the SCS buffer out of my PCC to install a Battle Arms stock on it, I noticed that the frist two O rings (four weight system) were broken and flattened. Anyone Know what causes this? I want to shoot the gun this weekend so I can't wait for JP customer service for replacement O rings. They look like standard 3/4" rings so I'll try those. Is there anything special about the JP ones?

  4. I reverse engineered the Atlanta Arms 100 gr Steel Challenge load. They use the Berry's hollow base plated bullet and I measured about 4 gr of N310 powder.  I never used those bullets but developed a load based on 95 gr Montana Gold JHP bullets over 4.0 gr of N310 at 1.085 COAL. These are pretty close to the Atlanta loads, about 110 PF. However, they are too short to cycle reliably in my PCC but are fine in my Steelcat pistol. You could try the Berry's bullet which can be seated longer, say 1.135". Those should run fine

the romeo 3 xl and the 510c are extremely close in window size. from what i can tell from this picture and first hand comparison is you might be losing a very small amount of height and the very outer corners of the glass but its such a small amount i doubt it would be noticeable in a match. plus the 6 moa dot will far out way the very small difference in window size, the dot was a lot nicer on the xl than the 510c at least to me it did.

The 2 minute dot on the 510 C is more than sufficient when used with the 67 MOA circle. Best feature of the sight in my opinion.

  6. I agree that a comp is effective on a pistol. To settle an argument on this subject, I wrapped the comp on my 22 conversion with about 5 layers of aluminum foil and then shot it. The aluminum was disintegrated by the force of the gas exiting the comp. Can also see the difference shooting this gun wit / without comp.

Do both of these have the same barrel except for the finish?
