  1. Another thing almost no one knows is that Dave contested a time he was given for shooting a stage. He said the time he was given was too fast and he said he was slower. It wasn't an argument with the RO's. He just believed he shot slower than the time given. He was right. The timer didn't pick up his last 4-6 shots because his gun was behind a wall. It was one of the more honorable moments I have seen at the range.

I was there when that happened, Barry, USPSA Nats several years ago. I was impressed. He could have remained silent and picked up considerable points. A lot of people could take a lesson.

    Jim

Then he has done it previously. The one I mentioned just happened this weekend. He is a good ambassador to the sport.

Yeah, that was my stage (stage 4). The long sprint to the wall was all I could do with my 61 year old knees and 161 shooters. angry.gif Dave gave me a heads up about this probability before he shot. There were some fast shooters but he was a flash. His video showed that I had the timer up over his right shoulder but... I was stunned when he made his request for a reshoot. surprise.gif Like I said earlier, he is truly a class act! cheers.gif Glock picked a true winner to represent them.

    Take care,

    Pat

You kept up great Pat. It wasn't your fault. His gun was just simply behind that wall after the sprint so that could've happened to anyone. You handled it great.

All the RO's and staff were excellent as always. We had no problems and no one minded helping the RO's who were a little short staffed. I can say for sure that no one on Squad 10 minded.

A huge thanks to the staff!!!!

  4. Sadly, Kyle Riedy passed away on May 31. He was a BE.com forum member (forum name: irq23) and a shooter in the Phoenix area and a regular at Rio Salado. Kyle was 29 years old and a great guy. He was always eager to talk about anything under the sun and was devoted to Single Stack and was jumping into 3-gun. He was an extremely smart guy who was seeking a double Masters from ASU and was committed to earning his law degree. My understanding is that Kyle passed from Anaphylactic Shock due to a food allergy. I don't know which food.

I had just shot the same match as him, the Northern Arizona Classic, that weekend and had talked to him 2 or 3 times.

Kyle was a member of the Rudy Squad.

Please pray for him and his family.

Kyle was a great guy and he will be missed.

  5. Your RO has a dang nice looking shooting shirt. tongue.gif

I'm just a B class flunky so take anything I say with a big grain of salt but you move, set up and then shoot. Looks like some of the targets could possibly have been engaged on the move which would cut your stage time down.

Again not certain due to the camera angle, but just a thought.

+1 to what Rick said. To go along with shooting most the field course on the move, you can try to look at all angles of stage breakdown. Look at it from different angles and different arrays.

  6. I used to be very nervous as well. I don't really get nervous any more but do feel excitement just before the 1st stage or two. I have learned to not let that ruin my stage and stay focused and shoot the stage as I should instead of crashing it as I used to do.

  7. Kyle Schmidt was using a Springfield. Not sure XD or Xdm

    Encoh Smith ???

    Dave Sevigny Glock 34

Phil Strader Smith M&P9L or Pro

    Vance Schmid ???

    Jerry Miculek ???

    Mark Owensby ???

    Randi Rogers Glock 34

Chuck Anderson Glock 34 (with one of them new cheater KKM barrels installed the week before Bianchi)

    Alan Fleshman ???

Kyle shot an XD. He has both guns but he preferred the slightly longer sight radius of the XD for the Bianchi.

He's a modest guy. We went to his house Monday for a Memorial Day BBQ and he never offered to show off the Bianchi Cup trophy until we bugged him about it.

  8. Thank you all and thank you to my grandfather who passed away in 1993. He served with the 90th during WWII. He saw action in Normandy as well as the Battle of the Bulge. He was and will always be one of the two greatest men I have ever known, the other being my father. Thank you veterans!

  9. In my XDm 9mm I run 4.3 grains of N320 under a 124 grain Montana Gold JHP using WSP primers and mostly Speer brass. I have changed out the guide rod and I use uncut 15lb 1911 springs. This load made 134 PF at the 2009 USPSA Nationals and made 133 PF at Area II last year. I like the feel and I never have to worry about making PF.

  10. Just wanted to say Hi, I live south of Tucson in Rio Rico. New to reloading, currently have a Lee anniversary press. Not really new to guns, but not a ton of hand gun experience. Mostly shoot 10mm (Glock 20SF) and .22, I have some other handguns, but don't want to mix things up too much till I feel confident in my skills with the Glock. I'm interested in getting involved in some competition shooting.

Can anyone recommend a good club in the area?

    Nice to meet everyone,

    Mike

Welcome Mike! You've got 2 clubs that are somewhat close to you. You have SAPS that shoot at 3 Points west of Tucson on 86 and you have Pima Pistol Club a little northeast of Tucson.

  11. I am supposed to leave today for Prescott for the Northern AZ Classic. My wife and son have been sick recently and I thought it missed me..................until I woke up this morning. I won't go in to details but it wasn't fun. Now I gotta try to get better today so I can go.

And nope, I won't be using this as an excuse for performance.

  12. It is very easy to get the edge of of the Herrett grips with sand paper on a small block of wood. Start with 150 grit and take the edge down to where you want it and clean it up with 400 grit and then 600 grit. You can seal the edge with carnuba wax.

Thanks. I will give it a shot.
