  1. I have a JVC Everio GZ-MG330 30GB camera but I am camera illiterate. I know it has download software with it but is there anything more user friendly for it? I also want something that can help me convert it from MOD files to either AVI or MPEG. I tried Windows Movie Maker but I didn't have any luck with it with this camera. I have used Windows Movie Maker before with another camera and liked it though. I am currently using a PC.

Also, I do not have a wealth of knowledge with programs like this so something as simple as possible would be a big help. Thanks!

  2. I am contemplating on having a sight tracker built and would like to see different designs that are out there. Let's see them.

I think oggieb has the coolest one but it's a 6" so it isn't Limited legal. I hope he posts it. It isn't a true "Sight Tracker" since it isn't SVI but it is the same style with the front sight on the barrel rib.

    5" Sighttrackers are Lim legal?

    Yes sir they are.

  3. I actually know Mike. I worked with him as a police officer in Knoxville. We were in the police academy together. I can tell you from 1st hand experience, he was the best pistol shooter I have ever dealt with. I saw him on the show and was blown away that he went home after one round. Mike was always a great guy and very humble. He was quite, but polite. I read some of the post that spoke on his attitude, Mike has no attitude. He is just not a very outspoken in-your-face kind of guy. He is good, and he knows he is good. He was always, always willing to lend a hand and help out those of us who are not "blessed" with an eagle eye. I never thought Mike was cocky or big headed. I knew that if things went south, you wanted him with you, and I knew he was a guy you could count on. And if he couldn't shoot you, he could take you out with his hands! If your reading Mike, good luck in all you do buddy. 98-A rules!!

Holy crap, 98A! Nice to hear from you. Thanks for the comments....hope all is well!

Mike, funny JBo mentioned this, I was a cop in Sevierville back then and now I'm in AZ. I work with a guy out here that I believe you were on SORT with prior to going to the city. Harold Hayes ring a bell? He ended up going on the road for Knox County.

  5. Welcome James! I am a Sevier County man also. I was born and raised in Pigeon Forge/Sevierville but I relocated to Phoenix 7 years ago.

There's some good guys out there and a few really good shooters too. Try ORSA out and you could also go to Greeneville to shoot.

  6. In order to do it successfully, you need to completely have your ego in check. If you don't, you will shoot much worse than normal. If you do, you will learn more and shoot better every time.

    +1. Jake nailed it.

I like shooting with buddies but most of my close buddies are M's or GM's. I learned that no matter what, I have to shoot my game. We exchange ideas for stage breakdown but everyone has their own style of shooting and you have to learn your style and shoot it. That doesn't mean you shouldn't be flexible in your shooting though. I was squadded with a bunch of GM's at a match in NM recently and Sevigny was one of them and Kale Garrettson was another one. All 3 of us were shooting Production and we all bounced ideas off of each other. We sometimes all shot the stage the same way and sometimes none of us shot it the same, using 3 different stage breakdowns. We did this to shoot our game and our points. All 3 of us finished top 5 in Production with Sevigny winning Production. Sevigny's stage breakdown wasn't always "better" for me or Kale but he simply just shot his plan better.

The point is like I mentioned before, don't try to be Max Michel or Rob Leatham but be you. Take skills and ideas from them and apply that to your shooting.

  7. jasmap,

Since I use all 'range' brass, who knows what it may have been shot through. So the idea would be to drop every loaded round into either a case gage or the actuall gun barrell before a match? That is not too difficult an endeavor while sitting down relaxing. I use a Dillon SDB, so I don't have the luxury of a Lee "U" die at this point.

Would you mind sharing some of your XDM loads? We have been using the Berry's plated bullets due to cost. Do you have any other suggestions that are reasonable? We have used the 124's exclusively thus far, but just picked up some 147's. I'm hearing they recoil is easier to manage with a heavier bullet/fast powder.

    Your thoughts?

Hey J. The type of malfunction you are having can determine an answer or answers for a fix, so let us know when you get a chance.

As for the case gauge, I case gauge every round for matches and I case gauge about 25% of my practice ammo. Like I mentioned before, you have the perfect case gauge already, your barrel.

I wouldn't say change dies yet but with 9mm so finicky it couldn't hurt. This may not be your issue though.

For the XDM I was running a 124 grn Montana Gold JHP bullet over 4.3 grains of N320 with an OAL of 1.130. I recently switched over to a 147 grain bullet run over 3.6 grains of N320. I am testing out the 147 grn Black Bullets Int., the 147 grn Montana Gold, and the Precision Delta 147 grn FMJ's. So far I am having great luck with the MG's and the Precision Delta's. I really like the Black Bullets Int. bullet but I am getting a few keyholes here and there. That could be a powder issue or a OAL issue or maybe even something else. I like both the 124 grain load and the 147 load. Test both bullet sizes and just decide from personal feel.

I had horrible luck with accuracy using Berry's bullets in my XDM but that doesn't mean the bullets are bad, it just means my XDM didn't shoot them well. It shoots everything else I've fed it but it just doesn't like plated bullets.

If the problem is not brass issues or magazine issues then I HIGHLY reccomend taking your XDM up to Marty at Accuracy Speaks at Rio Salado. I can guarantee you he knows how to doll up an XDM and it will run like a top. His XDM trigger jobs are second to none......just ask Rob Leatham.

I'm in Gilbert also so let me know if I can help with anything local.

  8. No, I have not/do not case gage or chamber check my ammo. Can you be a bit more specific about chamber checking? I have done quite a lot of reloading, but most of it for revolvers which are not very fussy. As I'm learning, auto's a way more picky about what they digest. Do either of you know anything to look for specifically with regards to the XDM? as I say, this same ammo work without a hitch in my Hi-Power.

Thanks for your willingness to help,

    - Todd

Here's a case gauge: Case Gauge

Case gauges are used to check the sizing of the brass. It is to insure that the brass and bullet will seat properly in the chamber of the barrel. The perfect case gauge can be the barrel, which is called chamber checking. This can be an issue with XDM's. My brass has to be case gauged prior to using it in my XDM or my SP01 Shadow. The brass needs to be properly resized if it's been fired through a Glock or HK or the similar. If this is the issue with your brass and gun then a Lee "U" Die or a full length sizing die can solve your problem.

  9. I eat throughout the day. I usually have foods like oatmeal, yogurt, or fruit for breakfast. I also start hydrating a week or two before a major match. I generally take foods with me to eat at the match similar to what Dave does.....bananas, Clif bars, etc... I also drink Gatorade lightly throughout the day during a major match. I try to not eat huge portions during or before a match. Eating huge portions before or during a match can screw your blood sugar levels up.

Thanks! You forgot someone though......you....GM right?

  11. The gun went off after he hit the mag release,

So, he was not attempting to engage a target, when it first fired?

I am only guessing but I believe he meant slide release and not mag release. It's tough to go full auto with no mag in the gun.

  12. Good question Jody. I came back to this thread to ask the same question. Will my factory Shadow FO work with the Champion rear or do I need to switch it also?

What height FO front sight comes with the Shadow?

  13. I am definitely putting the adjustable rear on my Shadow. I just don't like aiming that low at head shots. For me that could play too much danger with a no-shoot.
