  1. Tonight we attended our local club's annual banquet. Sat at a table with 4 other couples. Each of the couples at our table won 4 raffle prizes each from the drawing and walked the prize table. Good swag, from Dillon Square Deal press, Dillon range bags, Bar-Sto barrel certs, etc. My wife and I waited...we had the same number of tickets as the others. No numbers called were even close to ours. The prize table was getting down to bore cleaner and gun oil. I thought the odds were we would win at least 1 prize off the table. No such luck. Four new guns were raffled as well. Nothing for us, yet some members won 6 and 7 times. After the prize table was down to the tablecloth, we got up to say our goodbyes and leave. I heard the MC announce "and now for the grand prize winner..." Yep. Won a Remington 1100. Better late than never...
  2. I recently zero'd my TA-11 on a 20" JP top end according to the instruction book. Wow. Wish I had read the manual years ago... I agree with the BAC as a dot for close stuff. Just sort of looking over and past the scope and focusing both eyes open on the target works for me. I think you'll really like the ACOG...
  3. I sent my match AR lowers to JP to install his trigger group/hammers back when it was JP Enterprises..(Around '94 or so) On his advice kept the engagement surfaces well lubed. (Every time I shot the rifles) I have had NO malfunctions with the triggers ever...after umpteen thousand rounds. Still set at a crisp 3.00 lb break. Highly recommend JP for AR trigger work. Just my dos pesos...
  4. I had a similar problem way back in the old days (about 1995) while shooting the SOF match in Las Vegas. Benelli M1S90 ran perfect in practice, using full power buckshot, right up until the first shotgun stage of the match. First and every shot after the beep, the hammer followed the bolt down on a live round. Rack the bolt to eject the live round, release a round, rack it to chamber the round, pull trigger, repeat...not quite the recipe for speed. Turned out the 'big match" nerves had me holding the shotgun solid with a BGDG. (Big Guy Death Grip.) No movement under recoil = no cycling...I learned fast to relax my grip. Maybe you had a death grip on it?
  5. Thanks. Looked there and at all of the usual suspects...no luck. Since it has been discontinued I thought maybe there was some old stock sitting on a shelf somewhere...
  6. I would like to locate two of the Safariland Right Hand 771 mag pouches in red for STI mags. Does anyone know of a shop that still has these? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!
  7. I have used the Bates M6 Desert boots for about 6 months now. I live in the desert, and find these to be a great low boot for my daily hikes. Comfortable out of the box. 6 months is not really enough time to form an opinion on durability, but they seem to be holding up well. I think this model is made better than my previous Bates products. I also wear them to shoot matches each weekend. (Gravel and sand.) Even though they are not really a heavy boot, I am pretty sure trail runners or cleats are faster to move in. But I like the traction and the ankle support they provide. Plus, I think they look really cool...
  8. Is there any reason NOT to use Winchester Small Rifle Primers in a .40 load using TG at a 140 pf? I loaded a batch and saw they chrono'd about 20-30 fps faster than with WSP primers, but otherwise, no issues. Just wondering if I am missing something here. The reason I ask is that I have 15,000 WSR primers left over from the 'hot' .38 super days... Thanks!
  9. I've called Beven and left messages, and sent emails with no response regarding work on a Benelli. Called Benny Hill and he personally answered on the first ring. Guess where my shotgun is going?
  10. Of course you can do what you want, but in my experience it will just crack next to the weld. I tried this using a pro welding shop in the past on an older Para .45 slide, a 9X21 P9 slide AND a Caspian slide from a .38Super, despite my local gunsmith telling me it wouldn't work. He was right. EDITED TO ADD: This applies to cracks originating at or near the ejection port...
  11. Greetings. I recently purchased one of these 4 caliber chamber gauges from EGW direct. Works like a champ for gauging rounds for my tight chambered STI in .40. The "no-go" rounds that I had around from using the barrel as a gauge were also "no-go" in the EGW gauge. Construction is bullet proof. (Solid block of aluminum}
