Gun and ammo has worked in the past. The slide cracked, top end was replaced by the builder and when I got it back it has been unreliable.

IMO, sounds like you need to send it back to the builder and have them figure it out

  2. Yes, I don't shoot nearly as much as I would like too so these cleats are in very good shape.  I bought them brand new a few years.  NIKE Land Shark Football cleats, size 11.5 mens.  Bottoms are a hard but flexible rubber.  I guess they would be called a mid-length height, they come up to your ankles.

Here's the catch for whoever may want them. If you live nearby to me (MD), you can have them for free.  We can either meet at a match I might attend OR somewhere within my commute.  Send me a PM.

The free(almost) scenario is if you are not local to me I ask just pay for the shipping to get them to you.

Hope this works out for someone.

    Thanks

Save all the heartache and just buy the DAA cart.

Funny you say that, it's the road I went down and it works for me.  https://www.doublealpha.biz/us/rangecart-pro

I'm one of those that prefers the larger Shooters Connection range bags (yep, it's heavy when filled up), which has the large side pouch for magazines that flips down, which is where I also keep mag mop/brush.  After shooting I go back, flip the pouch down and start cleaning and rearranging mags.  I thought about using a "wagon" type of cart but I'd have to build a raised platform to raise the bag up or lift it out to work on my mags so I went the range cart route.  I did add a PVC shelf at the bottom of the range cart so the SC bag would actually fit/sit better since the cart is designed for a back-pack, which are not as deep.   The tires have been frustrating (hold air or not hold air, that is the question) but I seemed to have worked that out finally with the help of DAA.  I don't shoot any multi-gun so a jogging cart was never in the thought process.

Save up buy a 2011 used, you'll thank me later.

When all is said and done I agree with Idahoaashooter.  I had an older Tang (witness) open gun that I loved but parts are harder to come by.  Not impossible by any means but when you compare it to a 2011 there is no comparison in availability.

What FTP_Shooting_Sports mentioned about how the CZ/Tang design works is correct, which correlates to the barrel/link, slide stop pin and fit to the frame and barrel is so critical if not fit perfectly, while using it as a competition gun, will most likely cause the problems he mentioned.  To be fair there is a friend of mine who's been shooting his Checkmate for a few years now regularly and as far as I know it's been reliable for him.

I switched to a 2011 open gun a few years ago and could not be happier.

    Good luck

  5. I never understood how close the thumb rests were, going on the same context as what slide4949 said:

When I first started shooting I took a course, Hand gun shooting 101, the grip was of major importance. The proper way was to extend the weak hand wrist and lock it over with thumbs pointing toward the target. This gave you a lot of control over recoil and muzzle flip. How can you achieve this using a thumb rest? Can a thumb rest provide this type of control?

so I found this from Roy Neal, a knurled rest, he's a member here on be.com  It allowed me to place it as far forward as I liked.  It may even be one more hole forward now (based on the holes in the site mount), this is from a picture taken two years ago and i don't have my gun in front of me to verify.

  6. here is some old text from Jim Anglin, explaining what I mentioned.  Below that is a thread with pics, explaining basically the same thing.  Lastly, Atlas has a youtube video about the same context on STI mags, although what they don't show is the need to keep the tube shape "square'd".  Start squeezing the tube too much and you'll ruin it.

Ya need to get the second round over under the top round, the second round in the mag supports the top round, if the second round is off to one side the top round will nose dive.

Take to pieces of round plastic 1/4" in dia tape these two pieces into the groove at the top of the mag, then take a small clamp with two pieces of wood cut the same width as the mag and clamp these two pieces of wood to the front and back of the mag. Dont put any more pressure on the clamp than it takes to hold the wood strips in place.

Put the mag with this set up attached to it in a vise and squeeze the top of the mag together while watching the second round(go slow!) when it moves over under the top round some release the pressure and note if the second round has moved more under the top round thanwhen ya started, keep doing this till you have the second round pretty much under the top round, then put three rounds in the mag repeat and then four rounds and repeat. check how your mag feeds now with no recoil spring in the gun, when ya have it right the round should go into battery with just thumb pressure on the back of the slide.  Only do this with a grams follower and spring set up if ya do this with the stock follower you will bend heck out of your

    mag and ruin it.

  7. The nose dives are most likely a problem with the tubes being too wide at the double stack to single stack transition.  Tighten that up some and those problems will most likely go away.   Do some searching, you’ll find posts that more fully explain how to do it.

the space at the bottom of the tubes can be helped by smoothing the control ribs transition at the bottom.   They are not typically “smooth” or “flat “ enough so the follower can get caught there.  File, sand, make it a smoother transition.

    good luck

  8. I tried it, it worked but I like vv350 better.  In my open gun(38sc) it took over 9 grains to make major with 124/125 grain bullets.  Not saying it’s a lot of powder, there was still room in the case, just took at least that much.

TruBlue seemed to be the same powder with the same results.

i was more curious to see would it be viable to use if I couldn’t get vv as imr blue or trublue I could find locally

    good luck

  9. sounds like two things, both mean the tube(s) are out of spec.

    1. the double to single stack transition has gotten too wide, causing the rounds to not come up into a nice single stack as they near the top of the tube.  There are videos on youtube about this and images here on be.com of how to squeeze this area in a vice.  It's easy but it's just as easy to completely mess up the tube.  If you are not mechanically inclined I would not attempt this.

    2. the follower getting stuck in the tube is a symptom of the main area of the tube has gotten too wide and needs to be squeezed back down some.  The ideal width between the control ribs inside the tube is 0.740” for typ. Reloaded ammo, no narrower than 0.730”, no wider than 0.765” and keep tube square.  Too narrow left to right and there is less capacity.  Too wide left to right and the rounds can start to stack incorrectly and bind on each other.  Squeezing a tube in a smooth face vise is doable, but if needing to squeeze it you have to go further than what is needed for the metal to take a new shape.  Need to be very careful.  If you are not mechanically inclined I would not attempt this.

  10. It's the extractor tension that is off.  Since you have an Aftec on the way it is NOT UNUSUAL to have to fit them to each gun, they are almost never a drop-in part.   A lot of folks love them, some don't.  I've always felt they were a solution to a problem that does not exist but that's just me.

If the gun with the current extractor does not appear to be broken (the extractor) why not just re-tension it first?  Also, I would suspect your jams happen more frequently with a big stick than it does with your 140's.  Extractor tension problems start rearing their ugly head first using big sticks but when it gets bad enough it will give you fits in all size magazines.

good luck, hope it all works out

  11. I tried AA 38sc ammo a few years ago and oddly enough it’s the only ammo I’ve ever shot out of my open gun where I experienced light strikes.  It was about one out of every 100 rounds.   They seem to be a reputable company so it had to be something on my end.

I have 4 of the old style SV 38/9 140 mags with Grams springs and followers and Grams 11 mm base pads for my 9 major open gun. I get 25 rounds to start in them if I use the regular 11 coil Grams spring and 24 rounds reloadable, if I use a longer Grams 13 coil spring. The 11 coil springs have been reliable, but the 13 coil springs give an extra measure of feeding force in that regard, although down a round. I have the 13 coil springs installed now and down the one round has not made much difference in my experience.

what he said, Grams all the way

  13. Grams never made aluminum BP's.  Those aluminum ones you have are something Dawson's made to copy Gram's design a long time ago, which he (dawson) had to stop making as it was an infringement on Gram's patent back then.  So Dawson changed his design to what you see today.

With the update rules for Limited (Apependix D2) specifically stating 357 sig is allowed for MPF,  do you foresee it replacing or gaining equal popularity to the 40sw?   With the extra fps and flatter trajectory while toeing the line closer to 165 PF minimum, along with the reduced cost of bullets it seems like it is primed for an emergence in LTD competition.

    Idiot.

    Sorry, couldn't help it..

To buy mags or build for new 2011 open blaster?  What are the best pre built and/or what parts to get to build?  I know they will have to be tuned just looking for opinions.

Try doing a search, there are 100's of threads about 2011 magazines, you'll learn tons.  Nothing needs tuning, it's whether or not they need to be fixed to bring them into proper specs.

    Good luck
