1. Just did it yesterday.. 24gr pushing a 69gr match king. Also my buddies 20” WOA barrel shooting 75gr Hornady will do it all day also.

thanks for the heads up! I’ll check out ballistic advantage!

I do it regularly with all good hand loads I’ve put through a 20” white oak barrel. But, I also did not put the upper together. Bought a complete 20” white oak varmint upper with matching bolt. I know the barrel plays a big part. Not sure how much assembly and matching bolt contributes. Also using a geissele national match trigger and Sig 6-24 scope. da465121119da6adafcf1fc8003675e8.jpg5fdc0e867cc02f144512552132dd08ca.jpg

2. I shoot about 2-3k of short range “blasting” ammo/year. For the past 2 years I have been keeping my eyes peeled for bargains and have been loading for 13 cents/round (.023 primer, .055 bullet, and .052 powder. I do the same for match ammo and will be loading my next 500 75gr precision loads for about 25cents a piece. The case prep for bulk loading is a pain but the savings can be significant.

3. This was causd by the damagd primer.  Primer are sensitive and once damaged like that they can be super sensitive and can be set off very easy.  Never would have known but I had a primer go in a case off center/sideways while reloading. I felt it go in bad so I took the case out of the priming station and was going to pick the primer out with a small pick I have on the bench. I went to pick out the messed up primer and it went off. Suprised the heck out of me and I was fortunate that I had my saftey gear on.

So in this case you damaged the primer and the shock of the hammer puller made it go off. Nothing wrong with the hammer puller for regular rounds with undamaged primers.

I always worked under the assumption that you needed a direct impact on the primer and never considered that they can be unstable once damaged.

4. Hate it happened but glad you are alright. I notice you didn't mention the condition of your drawers, my condolences.

I had purchased an impact puller a long time ago and think I used it once. Now have a collet in a Lee single stage and it works great. Only used occasionally and I only use jacketed bullets.

Post might save someone from an issue though. Thanks.

Surprisingly the drawers are fine. 99% of the ones I need to pull have inverted primers which I think there’s a 0% chance of it happening with them. But since I need to buy a new puller it will be a collet.

5. This is an extremely rare occurrence. I have a collet puller and it doesn’t work well at all with coated bullets etc. I feel perfectly safe using a hammer puller.

Agreed. I’ve never heard of it happening and never even considered the possibility. But it did so I won’t. I typically only pull bad bullets once a year and it’s normally less than 50 or so. If a collet puller doesn’t work well I won’t lose sleep over trashing them.

6. I never thought of this as a possibility and chalking it up to a freak accident but had a .40 explode while pulling some bullets today. This was in the pull pile because the primer went in off center and was smashed. 86a2bf95dfd099a374572acc16542507.jpg30b76626eacea8bd978e3e0a94e012ff.jpg643733b3d0f448e3a54592d44243bdbe.jpg47328c2393071aa23ba9d45623960428.jpgcfacf39f35233d3c35d6fa756756fa2f.jpg488061d31d8ccd6e405d55591ae22f5b.jpg

After the 3rd impact the explosion happened. The puller blew apart. The brass went through the drywall part of the ceiling. The collet made the marks in the drop ceiling. The bullet and primer were on the carpet area of my basement (about 3 feet from the concrete used for puller impact).

Still trying to make sense of it and posting this mostly as a PSA. I’m convinced that it had to do with the damaged primer but also certain that nothing could have impacted the primer while pulling.

7. I found that pull ups work great for me. I tend to hang at full extension for a second or two and pause again at the top. When I feel my grip getting weak I add some coconut oil to the bar. It makes my hands want to slip but resisting strengthens my grip. I also use “liquid grip” when shooting because I’m not opposed to a chemically enhanced grip.

8. Lucreauthat there is pimp-a-liscous[emoji12].  Wish I had one [emoji26]

Anyone know if LSI has resumed taking orders on grips?  Think I need to throw my name in the hat and pick one up.

I didn’t know he ever stopped. Got mine a couple weeks ago.

9. Both.

there isn’t a PF in steel challenge but just wondering what guys use. Never really “made a load” other than to make major for USPSA. Steel really isn’t my thing but want to get into it a little for the winter.

I shot it once last year under the same premise (uspsa practice) and just used my major load. Seems it would be better practice that way.

10. Heard that you use the same powder charge but get the lightest bullet you can get.

I want to shoot more steel challenge during the winter. Figure it’s has to be great USPSA practice. Calling your shots, drawing 20+ times during the day, quick transitions etc.

What’s your question? Are you asking if you can use the same charge weight but with a light bullet to get a minor PF load?

11. Has anyone been in contact with Glenn from LSI?   I called and talked to him a couple weeks ago about having a grip done with some other work, and he asked me to wait until the following week to get back to him, but since, I have been unable to get in touch.  Really looking forward to getting the LSI Outlaw for my STI.

I just talked to him last week when I got my grip. Have you tried calling him? He mentioned that he got a bit backed up because of his daughter’s wedding but it nearly caught up now that’s it’s over.

12. Interesting. Ya Ben stoegers books are fantastic. I wonder how much of his content has been regurgitated into kitas book.

I fully expected the camel camel camel link to take me to some action shots of Kita. Bummed but interested in the book at a lower price point.

13. They do require fitting and they are a huge upgrade if you can swing the cash. I have the evo2 and love how aggressive it is. BUT if I had to chose the SV aggressive grip is 1000 times better in my opinion. Mostly because their mag releases is PERFECT. Wish I could fit one to the evo.

Why can’t you fit one to the EVO?

14. I fondled them all over the past year and the LSI outlaw felt the best to me. The fact that Glenn cuts them to your frame dimensions is a really nice bonus. I installed mine yesterday expecting to do some minor fitting but it slid right on with ZERO play. Only problem is that it makes the rest of my gun look like poo. 856a638120eba159ca8a2d1f1ad35047.jpg

15. 6 hours ago, MadBomber said:

If it's a factory pistol, call STI.  They may be willing to stand behind their product and fix it.  Couldn't hurt to ask.

Not a factory pistol. It's an STI frame but a custom top end and I'm not the original owner. I guess it couldn't hurt to contact the builder to see what he thinks.

16. The picture isn’t clear enough to really see anything...

But the short answer is, yes.  You should be concerned about a crack in your slide. It needs to be replaced, or it will in the near future.

Here it is zoomed in. I might just throw some duct tape on it. Seriously though...I’m not in a rush to spend the $ on a new slide, barrel fitting, slide to frame fit, finish etc. Might look into having it welded to get some more mileage 6b0a140e20798d8599b4cf7c30d5b098.jpg
