A complete upper from a reputable manufacturer like BCM should not need to be tuned for reliability. If you’re putting together the upper yourself a 11.5 barrel with carbine length gas has a very good reputation for reliability. You can add an adjustable gas block if you plan to shoot suppressed. A 10.5 will normally run just fine too but that 1” equates to a much shorter dwell time which can result in reliability issues. A heavier (h2,h3) buffer and blue sprinco spring can help with reliability by slowing the carrier speed. If building the lower now, go with the a vltor a5 buffer system.
I have a 13” mid-gas (cut down from 16”) with a 0.076 gas port. The first time I shot it, I had several failures to eject. I believe it was unlocking early and the carrier speed felt very fast. This was with a regular carbine spring and h1 buffer.
I swapped to h2 buffer and blue sprinco spring and it has been good to go. However, I decided to order a vltor a5 tube and their a5h3 buffer for the lower because I feel the 13” mid gas is right on the edge of reliability and the a5 should help increase dwell time and smooth out the carrier (plus, waiting on suppressor and will eventually get a 10.5-11.5 upper)

Hm, well that's pretty cool actually haha.
Probably a dumb question, but how the f*#k do you get the insert out? Just wedge something in between the lip on the outside?
For the limcat, the steel insert is bolted in place underneath. You’ll probably need to heat it up to break them loose. I wouldn’t bother refinishing the insert though. Paint or cerakote won’t hold up long.

Mine was originally cerakote silver but once it started to get beat up I sanded it off and polished the brass.

I have an .090 Dawson in my gun. Yours is probably a .100. You can check it out tomorrow
I guess it’s a good time to compare rear sights too. Never put too much thought into before and just ran with what it came with.

The question is a little vague because the Dawson and Manny Mini Dot sights have two huge differences between them. The primary difference is the width of the front sight. The narrowest Dawson front sight you can get is a 0.090. The Manny Mini Dot is 0.070 which is visually much narrower. We all have different visual abilities (Focal speed and clarity) so what overall width of front sight post you need is primarily going to be determined by the limitation of your eyes. This is especially true when shooting in less than optimal lighting conditions.
The size of the fiber bulb you see is the second difference. The Manny mini dot puts the fiber bulb behind the front most post which has an exact 0.040 size hole in it. This produces a consistent size fiber bulb you see while looking at the front of the sight which is a good and bad. Its good because the bulb size you see is consistent regardless of how big the actual melted bulb is. But its also bad because the small 0.040 hole can be too small for some people and they don't see enough fiber bulb. The Dawson front sights can have a varied size front bulb based on how much you melt the tip of the fiber. Melt it less results in a smaller bulb, melt it more and it makes a bigger bulb. This is a good tuning option for aging eyes when people want to increase the bulb size to see it better. But it is also bad because it can be difficult to replicate the exact same bulb size when replacing the fiber.
Front sights are tuning options to help you find the balance between seeing enough while shooting fast and not being too overwhelming so that you can't aim precisely. Since there are seemingly endless combinations available to test out, and everyone's eyes are different, there isn't a magical front/rear sight configuration that works best for everyone. This means that you need to throw down your hard earned cash and buy several different sight setups to see what works best for YOU.
Thanks. I’m not at all unhappy with the Dawson I use now. Just building a new top end and thought I’d explore something different. Will likely just stick with what I know.

I have used both, I like the Dawson myself. I have the Manny Dot that came one one of my limited guns. I ended up putting the fiber all the way through, I never really could get used to it.
Does it basically just make the fiber appear smaller?

Anyone have experience with both? If so does the manny dot provide any advantage or disadvantage while shooting fast? Seems like it would be more precise but wondering if it feels slower.

Carry a zip tie or similar in your pocket. If you stop someone for a suspected squib you can confirm by passing the zip tie through the barrel before they go to the safe table to check. Much quicker and easier than trying to look down the barrel.
Also (especially at locals) make sure the RO on the scoring tablet knows that they should be on the opposite side of the shooter as you and do not need to be certified to make a call for a safety violation that you are not able to see.

I efiled for an SBR on 12/10. Rolled my own fingerprints (amazon kit). Sent them in on 12/18 and got my approval Wednesday (1/22). Guessing it would have been sooner if not for the holidays.

Seriously! I’ve heard them get a lotta flak for over moderation but enos is the only place I know of online where you can agree to trade someone a thousand dollar scope for a thousand dollar gun and have no worries whether or not the gun will show at your ffl in the condition you were told (and vice versa)

Any updates on release date? Would love to see one in the wild and hear initial impressions

Did you find the brass magwell, plus the steel LSI grip to be too heavy? I have the limcat brass magwell that i was using previously on my stock STI grip, but I'm wondering if the SS version might be the best balance of weight and performance.
No. Not sure what it weighs but seems about perfect to me.

Same one (brass limcat) I just removed the chipped cerakote and polished it

She has her heart set on one! Loves the trigger on my 2011 and the grip on her shadow 2.

I don’t get it. Do you have details of how it works? Is this just playing with buffer weights?

I could not see anything blocking the port. I have not had anytime to look into the problem further(I busted up my knee). My M&P AR15 did not come with the A2 front sight. It was this.
Could have saved everyone a lot of time if you mentioned this earlier. Reading your original post makes it sound like you were shooting a brand new factory configuration rifle that didn’t work when, in reality, you tried to play gunsmith and had no idea what you were doing. This forum has a wealth of information but you have to give to get.

I load/shoot about 30k PC bullets/year. The 9s are sized at .356. Zero issues with leading and they are very consistent. Not sure if this is the norm or not but they size them again after coating. https://www.kingshooters.com/bulk-pc-bullets/bulk-pc-bullets-3014

I just did a ladder test earlier today and 24 grains is shooting about 1/2 moa and very impressive. Do you think the velocity is to low to get the most out what the bullet is capable of at longer ranges?
25.3 of varget is my go to with a 69gr smk. It’s consistently 1/2 moa for me. Did you go up that far in your ladder test?

The juice on this cannot possibly be worth the squeeze. Gotta be a better way to get her shooting major.
That’s what I’m thinking now that I’ve researched more.

Any idea what the max capacity is in 40 with extended base pads?
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Also...it’s sounding like this is more complicated than tossing a 40 upper on it and getting 40 mags, base pads and magwell.

You could fit a new top end on the gun, but it won't be a Shadow 2 slide. A TS slide assembly can be made to fit if you want to keep the frame.
The recoil spring tunnel on the TS slide would have to be thinned and blended, or the frame opened up.
A 75 SA slide in .40 could work as well.
You're going to be limited on capacity with the 75 pattern mags though, so take that into consideration.
Any idea what the max capacity is in 40 with extended base pads?

Is it possible? My daughter just finished her first year in uspsa as a junior shooting a shadow 2 in production. She’s thinking she’d like to shoot limited next year and possibly shoot nationals.
Limited minor is an easy solution but wondering if it’s possible to get a .40 top end for her shadow 2? Googling has not turned anything up and getting her a matching set of TSOs for Christmas isn’t in the cards right now.

That’s a pretty sweet app also. You just load the pic on and it does it’s magic? I’m assuming you have to check what caliber it is also.
was that free?
Can’t remember if it was free or not. You need to mark a 1” reference point. Select distance, caliber the add the impacts.

Rhats really impressive! What’s your load work up for that?
The smaller group is a 52 gr smk with 25.5 of h335. The other is a 69 gr smk with 23.5 of Varget.

Split limit for CED pocket pro 2?
in Gear & Accessories
Posted
I was out playing with my gamer rifle the other day and was routinely hitting .11 splits and there were a few times where I hit, what felt and sounded like, much faster (maybe 8s or 9s). However every time it happened that shot was not recorded on the timer. Anyone’s now if there’s a limit to the pp2? Is there a way to adjust? I always thought sensitivity is to adjust for quieter guns.
