  1. What are you protecting it from. One would assume if it was locked into a position to where it couldn’t work as it’s original purpose that it would be okay. Now if you really want to set it up to where there won’t be any arguments or time wasted, cut it off or use it as intended.

See the wording of 9.9.3.  It applies to two types of targets 1) moving scoring targets (which clearly doesn't apply here) and 2) "no-shoot targets that must be activated when in front of scoring targets to expose them".  In this case, MUST the max trap be activated to shoot the scoring target?  No, the head is visible on the scoring target and you can shoot it without activating the no-shoot target on the max trap.  The 2nd part of 9.9.3 is referring to appearing scoring targets (different from disappearing targets, and defined in the glossary).

I also have a very official [emoji12] email from DNROI that confirms my understanding of 9.9.3.

    So what’s your ruling?
  3. amen! Or even a really bad limp from shooting yourself. "Damn dude, why you limping so bad?" "Nothing major, just shot myself in the foot practicing my draw". "See ya'!"

lol glad we can finally agree on something. Nothing against the OP because accidents do happen. Just like breaking the 180, it will get people eventually. Now if either one becomes habit, then I’m start to feel very concerned about my safety if said person is around.
  4.
If they did then what would be the minimum safe distance between spectators & match officials & the shooter?

If a competitor shows up at a match wearing armor because they think they might shoot their self. Either that person or me will be leaving the range.
  5. Today at a local we had a no shoot target on a clam shell mover. The brown target under the no shoot was partially visible ( complete head section) while no shoot was at rest. After a few people were allowed to shoot the target before activating the mover. It was pointed out that making that move was a procedural. I did not argue the point but I had never thought about it but is this correct?

Well, the MD and the poster went to dinner after the match and had a good time discussing this question.  Both the MD (and RM) and the poster were interested in seeing the responses to this question, which, so far, have tracked all the points that came out over dinner and the rulebook (viewed on phones).

That said, it's probably fair to say the MD is an a-hole... I'm just not sure this question/issue is the best evidence for that proposition.  Especially since the MD didn't assess the penalty (that was another RO).

    Sorry I fixed it.
  7. I guess common sense isn't that common. if that's the case I feel differently.

Nowhere in the rulebook does it say anything about using common sense, and when you do use it the debates start rolling in. If you don’t follow the rulebook to a T you will be cornered up fast in this sport
  8. Interesting  variation in charges of WAC for 6.8 - 7.4 for Major. Surprised that the deviation in these open pistols varies so much......I’m at 7.3 WAC as I speak.

Depends how many gofer holes is in the top of the barrel and slide
  9. It was the best solution I seen at the time. Once I ran a guy that was completely deaf. He brought his wife to translate ALS and he asked for the timer to be lifted off his shoulder as I hit the beep. Oddly enough he wanted me to slap his shoulder if I needed to stop him. The people that shoot this sport never cease to amaze me

  10. Following the rules has to fit in there someplace though

Oh the rules must always be enforced, but the approach of applying them on the shooter is the tricky part. Seems to work best getting them to admit to guilt with an audience.
  11. I watched a super squad, top-16 type shooter get hosed at an area match a couple years ago.

He assumed the start position, "are you ready.........standby...." and took a step off the back fault line in anticipation.  He visibly relaxed his body, and was placing his foot back on the start mark when the RO beeped him.  By this point we were 4+ seconds from standby command.  The shooter jerked and looked at the RO, then drew and started the course of fire.

The shooter finished and then made a beeline toward the RO to ask for a reshoot.  The RO told him that he wasn't going to give him a reshoot but he would add a creeping procedural if the shooter wanted.  I think the shooter was so disgusted that he just walked away and didn't bother calling the RM due to the obvious attitude of the RO.  I estimate it cost him between 2.5-3 seconds of dead time on a high hit factor, hoser stage.

I don't know if any part of that was intentional, but it was a dick move nonetheless.

This is a serious competitive equity issue.  Every shooter deserves an equitable attempt at each course of fire.  If there is any reasonable doubt about the reaction of the shooter to the timer beep, restart the shooter.

Usually if I reach the 4 second mark and the shooter still doesn’t have their crap together I will stop everything and start over slowly
  12. Sarge. Well how is it fair to everyone else that the slacker on their squad creates problems and headaches for all of them all day? That’s kinda like supporting these fools that want to burn down their city even though they are too lazy to work. And then want the rest of the hard working citizens to fix the town back like it was. I get that nothing in life is fair. Isn’t it nice tho when you are honest and straight forward with LEO’s and they use common sense to help you in your situation? Or do you prefer them to be a dick and enforce every possible violation they think of on you?

  13.
Is that in the rule book somewhere?  Perhaps in the spirit of "fairness" that some are espousing?

Maybe it makes me a bad RO and I should turn in my cards. All officials for everything are more successful and sought after if they are honest fair and use common sense as much as possible
  14. I personally think if there's any question the shooter should get a restart.

I had a stage where I flinched/false stsrted maybe even was creeping.  Right as I went back to the start position, the beep went off. I was not in the correct start position at the start signal. My hand was not relaxed at sides and I was still moving.

I hesitated, thinking I was gonna get stopped due to not being in the correct start position at the beep.  I realized the RO was not gonna stop me so I went on and shot the COF. After the COF I asked if I was gonna get a reshoot since I wasn't in the correct starting position when the start signal was given. He said no because I had recovered. I got it on video. I was still moving when the beep went off. My point is,... Stopping me and giving me another start wouldn't have given me any advantage over anyone else. So, if the shooter turns and ask or goes for the gun but doesn't draw, I think it would be ok to give them a reset.

I do get the point about the slippery slope though. So,...

The best thing is to just be ready to go at the standby command. Don't worry about how fast the beep was. Just start the COF. If you get stopped ok but don't wait, assume or ask. There's too any variables. One being the RO and there knowledge and assuming they actually seen or heard whatever.

I kinda see where you’re coming from. If the shooter hasn’t fired a shot or broke his feet why not let them start over for whatever reason. Now if the guy has been a no pasting douche all day then go full hardass on him.
