Again looking for any tips or advice anyone is willing to provide.. some info before we begin:
5th USPSA match ever, 3rd match in Limited 10. Definitely made a few mistakes today. 3 of the 5 stages i had mags that didnt want to drop free, even with the new weighted extensions. This is not an excuse, i know i need to work the problem and move on with life, however it did stick in my mind and irk me a little... a bit more on one stage, i tagged that in the video. One of the stages i had smooth mag changes (the last in the video) i forgot to barney at the start incase i missed a steel... and of course i did, that may have saved me a bit there.
I need to spend some more practice time at the range observing what is going on during the firing. I bought Ben's Book and have started reading it this week, i am trying to be more observant. I think i noticed during the recoil it dipping down, I seemed to have a lot of 1st shot a second shot C today, but then again i had a lot of really close grouped AA, so i dunno... maybe step down a spring and see what happens? I had my quarterly CQC qual week at work the last 5 days and shot about 1k rounds through my sig 229 and started trying to observe more of what is happening and let my body just work. Yes i know i should be shooting a sig here since that is what i have the most experience with but the Glock is what i have, and honestly i dont enjoy the 229 DAK, I am getting a bit better going back and forth between the two, i did notice today that my initial draw/grip was coming up pointing WAY left, i got no dryfire in this week as i got home at 2am from the work week and barely made the match....
Today was a lot of fun and a huge learning experience, my first time with the seated start, table draw, and box draw
All that being said, please feel free to provide any and all info/tips/tricks/advice you are willing to provide....
oh yeah and i am planning on ordering a blacked out rear and thinner F/O front, right now it is a truglo F/O & tridium front/rear 145/145
I am open to any and all advice or critique you guys can shed. My first two classifiers for L10 were 63% and 68%. I am hoping to lock down B soon and start working on A

Welcome, there is a few of us here in CA. Im over in the East bay
-
No, i carry a 229 at work, shoot a glock 35 in competition, and carry a XDs .45 for ccw. Maybe not the best way but what ever
-
Awesome, thanks, looks like i am on track for Lim10, if i do the same on the next two qualifiers
-
huh, just went and measured my sights on my G35, i just got some off the rack trueglo F/O front/rear on there... .145 front and rear, same width... that is weird, with the slide length there is daylight on both sides... i guess i could go thinner up front

I tried the Wolf increased trigger spring and had poor reset. Using a reduced safety plunger spring helped. I eventually went back to the stock trigger spring since the reset feel was poor. Supposedly the increased trigger spring and reduced striker spring is a bad combo leading to reset issues..
I believe this is true, especially for the gen4 pistols
It definitely fixed my issues on my gen 3 G35. Fired about 500 rounds since i last updated here, NO issues, and a mix of Fed Match, Win, and an OLD bag of RANDOM primers... 0 light strikes 0 reset issues, working flawless... knock on wood

maybe it is just me, but if you are going with colors you need to make sure they match, this is usually NOT going to happen with different brands. I would go with black or a different complimentery color. Using different shades of the same color ends up looking sloppy and cheap. I dunno, just used to my competition paintball (X-ball) days, it was all about bright flashy colors, lol, my old toruney gun is laser engraved hot pink and chrome. I just loved wrecking people with a pink gun, haha

AMAZON, especially if you have amazon prime, it will be there in 2 days with a great price, another vote for the Bladetech DOH... just know that you will have to shim it up to meet the 2" rule... yes even with the newest ones, this is easy to do though, and your local club shouldnt care especially if you are new... also the blade tech mag pouches are great too, i got one of the BT belts but the sizing wasnt true to i returned it and got the CR speed belt to save a little money...
in fact if you havent ordered yet i could let go of my new-ish BT DOH holster and BT mag pouches... i just bought them 2 months ago, then switched to Limited so i am now running a race holester and looking for an excuse to get new mag pouches. They are for a Glock 34/35 PM me if interested

An update since I added a Zev magwell. My Dawson pads seem to hang up on the magwell. They do not drop free like my TTI ones. I can not comment on other magwell designs.
anyone else having issues, or success, with the zev magwell and dawson base bads combo, i just got one dawson in a few minutes ago (first of 4 coming) and found that when i try to insert the mag into my Glock 35 with the heavy SS Zev magwell if i dont give it a hard slap it may not fully lock into place, i want to know that the mag will lock in every time. As much as i dont want to i am kinda tempted to lightly hit the front part of the mag well with a dremmel where the contact point seems to be... unless anyone has a better idea
edit****
ok i just decided to say screw it and dremmeled the front inner ramp of the zev mag well, it works perfect now... a few tips if you are going to do this:
1: with the gun fully assembled color the front inner ramp (or where ever the contact area is) with a black (if SS magwell) sharpie. Then inster the mag a few times and twist/rotate it around a few times, then pull the mag, this will show you where it is rubbing
2. I recommend removing the slide before sanding/polishing so you dont get stuff down in the slide. Go slow.
3. When you are checking to see if you removed enough put the slide BACK ON first. I didnt i just left the slide off the whole time. Not really a problem but i ended up taking a tiny bit more than i needed off. Again not going to cause an issue, you just have a bit more clearance, but i could have stopped a little before.
4. The cylindrical sanding wheels work great, then finish it off with a stone polishing wheel, ends up looking great.

Here was my post having issues getting the 4# working
http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=214019&page=2#entry2385053
after a few tweaks to the connector angle and going back to the stock spring i have it dialed iN now. I mostly run federal match primers, but i tried some winchester, and an old bag of 100 randoms... no issues
I will keep running the federals but to know it can do others with the 4# makes me feel better

Ran this last night with a new twist, started off with a 200yd sprint in boots, duty belt, body armor with plates and helmet. Ran it with the rifle first, then right away with pistol... that sucked, but everyone's shots were great even while sucking wind. Taking your brain (and oxygen) out of the equation really helps, lolI'm sure the drill has a name, but I can't think of it right now or who came up with it- wasn't me (anyone feel free to chime in if you can)..
Set 5 targets up in a line about 2-3' apart and at whatever distance you choose, obviously up close you will find yourself doing some very wide transitions. The drill is to start on target #1 and then move down the line and back to #1 while going back to 1 between each new target.
Example of shooting sequence: 1,2,1,3,1,4,1,5,1,4,1,3,1,2,1
15 shots total and as you can see lots of transitions. Throw in downloaded mags (10 or 5rnd) and the difficulty jumps up if ur really pushing speed.

Sounds like a solid way to run that. Getting physically taxed and then shooting is a whole new ball game. Not to mention adding plates.

It definitely is a game changer, we tend to do things like that a lot, ladder drills with two shot engagements, sled drags, sprints, etc. Makes it challenging and fun, and gets your heart up

FREEBRASS doesn't work for me, i will give them a call tomorrow

Just saw the official scores from Sat i won 2 of the courses of fire and took 2nd in 2, i was 10 match points behind first place, all the courses came down to less than .5 sec, and on of the courses i did win was the qualifier. So definitely thanks for all the help. I know i still have a lot of other areas to work on and would love any advice you guys can give on that video posted above. Overall, i know there is lots of work to be done but to come in that close behind a B class shooter all day on my 4th match i am feeling descent about it!!
-
a bit late to the party, but many of the guys i know use Primary arms on their plinkers, great reputation
-
That was kinda what i was thinking too, but do these spreads seem to big? It was kinda windy out and wondering if slight rocking of the chrono could account for that, or if these spreads seem ok? I don't want to unnecessarily go up in powder if there is something i could be doing to get these loads more consistent, but i do want them above the min as well
-
ok so i ran some more loads yesterday. 20 rounds all Federal case heads, nickle plated. 1.140 OAL. 5.5 gr WSF 180 gr xtreme FPRN
string one
904, 975, 922, 967, 940, 963, 941, 927, 929, 930
string two
863, 931, 930, 916, 919, 916, 912, 949, 873, 920
looks like to make major of 165 i need 917 FPS with these bullets minimum, 945 would give a buffer of 170 PF. The majority of the rounds are above the min of 917, are these spreads too big?
I set the dial till it made 5.5gr on my 550b, then dropped 10 rounds worth of powder through it, and dropped that back in the top of the hopper, then took an average weight of 5 rounds worth of powder and it was spot on at 5.5gr. They were all matching cases federal nickle plated, all winchester primers.
-
Nice, i snagged a 550 about two months ago used, it pays ot self off in about 2k rounds for me loading .40, plus you can make much better ammo

http://www.rcbs.com/downloads/instructions/81190_Chronograph_Instructions.pdf
read the instructions first
if you still are having issues RMA it.
I read, re-read, and sat there with the instructions while i was shooting. Nothing in there says what to do when it refuses to turn on or when it refuses to show you statistics but instead a random string of numbers? i am not going to RMA it if it won't work out of the box cause they lost my trust, i would rather retutn it and get something that works.
ah yes and i forgot to mention this BUT i have already been in contact with them about this unit because the first thing i noticed upon trying to assemble it as per the instructions was that it said they included a "start" and a "stop" cable, but when i opened the package i had TWO STOP cables! i guess they are the same cable, someone just messed up when packaging... says a LOT for their quality control, then combined with the issues with the screen!!

just be aware that in limited a 9mm can ONLY run minor. in open you can run it major or minor.
This. I am just starting out in USPSA as well, descent background in shooting though. I went the oppisite direction, i bought a .40 to get into it after reading the rule book cause i didnt know what division i would like better and i am used to shooting .40... i shot 2 weeks of production then switched to Limited10, going to limited once i get my mag parts... I switched to L/L10 because of the scoring bump, i could have had more points on small misses because of the larger caliber.... when i build an open gun it will most likely be a 9mm but if you shoot a 9mm in any class other than open you lose points.
-
i have none... not even a little... experience with an open gun, very tempted to get into one though. It just looks like so much fun!!!! I do however have extensive experience with a short barreled rifle with an optic (aimpoint or EOTech)... my observations is i try to adjust the brightness to the point i can barely even see the dot so it doesnt starburst out the target, then i run it fast. I am barely every focused on the sight (or dot) i see it i guess, but my focus is on the target. I can call these shots and instantly feel and see if a shot is a tiny bit off where i want it to be
It is a bit different with my pistol. Again i have very very limited experience with my USPSA pistol, but extensive experience with my duty pistol in a shooting while moving type environment. I get a flash sight picture with the pistol, my main focus is on the target, i have an awareness of the sights and rely on the muscle memory and the fuzzy sight picture i may get to put the shots centered. I still know/feel when a shot is not in the 5 ring/A Zone. Honestly the times when i throw shots are my slow aim fire static shooting, my shots while moving or in between sprints are the ones i am calling and dead center, it seems that when i take my brain out of the picture i can do ok

exactally what i was gonna recommend, we run it all the time at work, we just call it the "focal shift drill" lol. If you ride your sights instead of shifting your focus wit your eyes you will sweep too far and hit off center. Best drill i have run to help on target shifting

tac_driver here is the thread i started asking for help with the chrono, it is a rcbs
