You can't polish extreme parts. You might as well just put them in as is.

I have been browsing in here, and apparently there is a way to polish the extreme parts, it just takes a little bit longer than blued parts?

Is this correct? what am I missing other than the extreme parts being finished differently?

  2. Newbie here, I am about to start a trigger job and I am willing to put the time in.

    I have:

    Extreme trigger bar

    Extreme trigger bar plunger

    Extreme Sear

I have watched memphis' youtube videos and I know what to buff/polish, however, I need help as to what is the proper technique to polish these tricky parts:

    Sear Face

    Trigger hook

I am worried that I might ruin edges. Do you use san paper on this areas or do you just use a buffing wheel with a dremel?

  3. going to revive this thread as I already hijacked the other one a bit older :) I am new to Tanfoglios so I have a lot of questions.

to revise the list of mandatory upgrades for a stock II (please note I need to use all OEM parts as this gun will be used in major IPSC matches and in Production where nothing other than OEM is allowed).

    Sear and hammer related questions:

I am planning on installing a TITAN EXTREME hammer, do I need to upgrade the sear to an extreme sear?

    or

Should I keep the sear that comes with the regular stock II instead of upgrading to a extreme sear? ( I have read here that the extreme has machining flaws?)

    and,

Do I need a new extreme sear cage? why? what is the difference with the sear cage in the regular Stock II

    Trigger continued:

I am planning on getting the extreme trigger bar, that looks chromed and perhaps easier to polish. Is this worth it or just polish the bar that comes with the gun?

Do I need an Extreme Trigger instead of factory Stock II trigger shoe?

    Fitting:

I have read the thread about sear fitting (thank you very much Memphis for putting that together).

What other fitting would the hammer group require? Do I need to fit the interruptor / hammer?

Sorry for all the questions, I am trying to be prepared for the task as I am feeling a little bit overwhelmed by the amount of work it will require. However, I very much prefer working on the trigger myself to understand the firearm fully and get comfortable and for the pride of working on it and making it to my liking.

Let me know if I should perhaps put all the questions on a new thread and I will do that.

    Thank you

  4. wondering if this is still the case?

I am new to the forum and I have watched your polishing videos at least 40 times in the last week (Memphis) :)
I am in the process of purchasing a competition pistol to upgrade my current platform and I have decided that I am going to go full on with the stock II.

I am debating whether to go with the extreme or the regular stock 2 (I do not like the looks of cerakote) so I am leaning towards the regular stock 2 and upgrade all the internals with extreme parts, however, wondering if this is worth it after reading the comments, some extreme parts have flaws?

This is going to be quite the project for me, as I am going to purchase the gun and I am going to work on the parts by basically using this forum and youtube videos as guidance. I believe I can do it and the pistol seems very easy in operation, it is just going to be a time consuming event.

Should I purchase the extreme sear or perhaps just keep using the sear and sear cage that comes with the stock 2?

Any benefits to purchasing a extreme sear cage or is that throwing money to the pigs?

Thank you for posting my video review of the Bersa.  I really, really like it! (the gun, well the video ain't bad either)

My pleasure Patrick, good job, I really enjoy your videos, there is a lot of good info and no nonsense, no intro with music, silly logos, egos, or silly 'staged' shooting, a few you tubers come to mind, anyway.

I left a question on youtube for you, but I am going to ask the same question here just for everyone else to see:

In between the Bersa and the Grand Power Xcal, which one would you prefer or like more and why?

    Thank you.

  6. Both my xcal would kind of have some sort of 'grit/grind' feeling when the barrel turns/thrust against the slide.

In both cases, this went away after 700-1000 rounds. My current xcal is very tight on lockup and the action is very smooth.

For what is worth, and upon recommendation from a different shooter, I have been using 'gun butter' which I find to be very good in the Xcal.

  7. I am from Argentina and I feel like I must have one of these pistols :) I heard nothing but good reviews about them... In regards to the mag release, has not this been changed? I know there is a pro and a pro XT, with the PRO xt being the one being discussed here and the Pro the regular 'law enforcement model' (the pistol that PFA 'Federal Police of Argentina' uses) and I noticed that the mag released it is in, in fact, different than in the regular model.

    Cheers

  8. Reporting back, after 700 rounds the gun runs ok, only FTE I am having is by improper grip (completely my fault - and can be easily avoided if the grip is right, which requires nothing special, just keeps your thumbs off the slide to avoid slowing it down during cycling).

The new ball detent system used for the rear sight has not move one click (which amazes me).

I did find that 147 GR are no very accurate in this pistol, it was grouping to the left at 12 yards with 147 (at least my bullets), tried 115 and 124 and it is dead center, seems to prefer 115 and 124.

For those OCD like me, I did bench rest the gun for this test.

Going to switch to these bullet weights after I am done with the 5K I currently have to shoot.

  9. I own two xcal and both work great with my recipe and the lighter spring:

    135gr Bayou RN

    3.3gr Tite Group

    1.120" OAL

    Fed primers (you know why)

Lighter spring, changed only once on one

    1.75# trigger, almost too light

I rarely have issue. Last one was a squib. Before that a feeding malfunction after I went somethin like 5 matches with a cleanup (TG is dirty).

Shorter OAL is better. CZ short.

    Hope this helps.

    Thank you for the info,

I am loading 147 with 3.4 and it is not cycling properly in the Xtrim (got one stove pipe). First FTE in 200 rounds, much better than the xcal but still not good.

Going to check my loads now, and going to bump it up to 3.6 for a while.

OAL is 1120 in my rounds (1118 to be exact).

Seems to feed just fine, so far.

  10. Hello there,

I was looking for loading DATA for a XCAL jand found this thread. I have read all the 8 pages.

I own 3 Grand Powers, 2 xcals and 1 xtrim.

One of the xcals has been recently sold.

First X cal was an older one that I found at a good price, it was a mk12, bought it new.

I could not figure out what the problem was with that gun, had so many FTE that I lost count.

After chatting with Canuck223 by email, the gun was sent to him and I run the 21 coils recoil spring for about 1.000 rounds. The spring was actually a 23 coil spring shortened to 21 coils and my loads were TITEGROUP 3.6.

The FTE continued even when loading TITE at max. I was getting discouraged and lost trust in the gun a little over this period of time...

Things started to run better from there, I went from 1 FTE every 10 rounds to one every 60-100 rounds. At one point, things stabilized.

I was reluctant to selling the gun (although I thought about hundred of times due to its poor performance) but I continued shooting it and I recently purchased a Xtrim, gun is shooting low and to the left and had to play with the sights a bit to get the gun shooting straight. Waiting to sort out a factory original front fiber optic from Grand Power wit the right height. I am getting light primer strikes with the Xtrim too and after reading this thread I see other people had the same issues. But let's leave that for another thread.

My second Xcal is just like the first one, I am shooting 3.4 gr of Tite now and it is just FTE galore, going to load them up back to 3.6 and shoot 300-600 rounds to brake it in. Nothing new to report at this point, but one thing is consistent in this platform, it requires a brake in, proper lubing and lots of cleaning in the first 2.000 rounds.

Another problem I had with my first MK12 x cal was that the magazines were not dropping free reliably (it seems that the grip was thicker).

My friend and I bought 2 xcals, 2 serial numbers apart and they both suffer from this issue. I believe this is not a issue in newer GRAND POWERS as I do not have this issue in the new Xcal or the X trim.

Something that really bothers my OCD is the design change for the REAR SIGHT in the newer XCALS and I believe the Kensington Elliason is no longer compatible with the newer XCAL.

For reference, the sights in the link below will not work with the last batch of XCAL for several reasons:

    - Different thread for locking screw

    - Different shape (square vs round at the front)

    - Different locking roll pin

    http://www.amazon.com/KENSIGHT-Adjustable-Elliason-Square-Serrated/dp/B005FGR8JK

Not sure why GP decided to change the shape of the sights completely, but it looks different enough to think that are now nearly 0 aftermarket sights compatible with the newer Grand Powers.

With all that being said, I did really like the platform enough to buy 2 guns (sold one of the xcals) and figure out the bugs which I am still working through, and although It has been the most challenging platform to start shooting BUG FREE right out of the box, I still want to make it work for me because it is a really nice, simple, accurate gun.

Just wished it was BUG FREE right out of the box, had better instructions for the different recoil springs and that they kept the same sights across the different versions of the gun as it evolves.

Cheers and looking forward to visiting this thread.
