Feel free to name some builders in the comments if so desired. (NOT interested in Akai whatsoever)

I have 3 38SC Open guns.  Never shot 9Major..  I recover ~all my practice brass and about 50% at matches. I have embraced the pain of picking it up.

I would highly recommend talking to Pat Rafferty of Rafferty Customs.

Out of curiousity, why no Akai? (can PM if desired)

Only chrono I have ever done is whole squad shows up together, gets briefed by chrono man just like any other stage, etc. I would find it “odd” to just filter in one by one.

I guess you have not been to Frostproof.

If chrono is going to happen for example after stage 10, prior to stage 1, the last 3 shooters in the lineup go to chrono first.  After you shoot the stage, go straight to chrono. I believe we have done it this way at A6 as well.  This speeds up the process as opposed to a 45-50 minute dedicated chrono stage 11 on the squad matrix

This match was underwhelming. I joined this forum just to put it out there. Port Malabar Rifle and Pistol Club puts on club matches monthly that are the caliber of stages this was for a state championship. I just moved to Georgia about 5 months ago and I was treated like I wasn't wanted there. I asked 3 times if there was a raffle and was told there was but nobody would sell me tickets. It was like " I think he is selling them ask that guy no its this other guy" very disappointing. I am looking for a club here in Georgia to shoot club matches and I tried talking to the guy that runs the matches there and he acted like he didn't want to talk to me. I have shot other extreme gm matches and loved the experience, this one makes me want to shot IDPA or something else. Southern hospitality is everything I've been told as long as you don't try to shoot a uspsa match.

I disagree. I shot the match and found the staff to be helpful and friendly. I enjoyed the stages and thought that they were appropriate for a Level 2.  I have shot a lot at Port Malabar as well as many Extreme GM events.  As much as I like Malabar (shooting there Saturday), the stages are not of this caliber.

There was a random prize drawing. If you won, they told you at registration.  Unaware of the opportunity to buy tickets.

    Minor issues:

Venue was fair.  Not a lot of shade or seating ( i will bring my own chair next time).

They were understaffed.  One shooter had to do the paper scoring backup instead of having a third staff member.  Not a big deal but it was one less paster/re-setter on a really hot weekend.

The chrono setup was odd. Usually, i have gone to chrono after shooting a stage and then return to the squad.  Instead, we all went en masse to chrono and then had a full squad backup on the next stage

Is it any better than the FA vibra prime?

never used a vibra prime. I dump 100 in, and load  rounds while it is filling.

Vibra Prime. I modified mine to accept the standard Dillon primer tubes. It takes me about 10 minutes to load 10 tubes.

In those 10 minutes I have loaded 250 rounds

There is clearly magic all around us :   Powder, Bullets, Comps, popple holes, etc etc.

BUT, you still have to learn how to shoot fast.    :)

I wonder how many A shooters could tell the difference, on the clock, between a mag

of super bullets/powder/comp/holes and a 2nd mag of just regular Major loads with

WAC, 124 gr bullets, a standard comp and NO holes.

I doubt this B shooter could tell the difference.

And, if I noticed the difference, I wonder if it would take a second off my time ?

    This one can.

You are welcome to try my gun/load if you are still shooting matches in Central Florida. WAC is wack for 38SC.. So many better choices

I just cut down an existing ELS belt and added a snowboard binding ratchet. Easy as pie, took 15 minutes, and only because I measured 3 times before cutting.

how much did you decide to cut? just the overlap section or did you leave a gap?

You have no idea what you are talking about.  Have you ever shot 40 Open in a match?

    No idea, hmmm. Educate me....

    1.  The utilization of .40 in Open is low single digits at best

    2.  Super Senior C-class open shooters are not winning stages at matches with .40, 38, or 9 so it really doesn't matter what caliber they choose.

Am I wrong on those 2 points, the only points made in my post??  I think not

    Hello,

I can get 25 rounds in my 170 MM MBX and 26 with the Barney. Yes, 26 is smaller than 29. Most field course's are 32 rounds that require all to reload at some point. Where I have to reload unlike the 29 round guys is a 28 round course of fire. In this case, it is not hard to find a good place to reload while on the move. Does this cost me a few tenths of second? Yep, it sure does, but find that is not the make or break issue to win or lose a stage.

c'mon man.  40 Open. just. stop.  But you are probably right that .40 is not keeping Super Senior C-class Open shooters from winning stages

Ok.... Warning! Incoherent rambling ahead. I'm combining multiple thoughts into one thread but I feel like I might kinda answer the question?

I'd ask some other questions first. Because you're going to get a lot of suggestions for other paltforms.

    1. Is there a better option than the 2011 style open gun?

1.a. If not, how much better is the 2011 platform?

1.b. Are you willing to run a gun that's less advantages to save some money?

IMO, none of the other options are equal to the 2011 platform. The cz/tanfo guns are not equals to the 2011.  Why doesn't anyone here in the US run the non-2011 at the top level?  I don't know what anyone outside the US is doing but I'd guess the cz/tanfo is more popular. Is that because the 2011's are more expensive/difficult to get?

I've shot the checzmate and it's not on the same level as the 2011, IMO. I'd expect I'd feel the same about the tanfo model.  The Glock option is a joke.

So, again I'd ask the OP if he's willing to accept a platform that's not gonna be as good to save money?

Once you decide what option you want to go with, then you gotta decide if you want to spend the cash. This may be backwards but you gotta decide.

Now, to answer your question.  No. There is not an affordable option. Not when considering what you'd get if you went with the "budget" option. Thats like asking if you can build an affordable drag car?  I mean, you could buy Jetta and head out to the tracks but your gonna be disappointed!

The top level shooters are shooting tricked out steel grip 2011's. Yes, most are sponsored and get free or deals on pricing. Though, they'd get the same deal on a plastic grip 2011's so, it seems to indicate they're choosing the options they like the best. My observations seem that steel gripped, middy/shorties with holes are common. I don't think the cheaper optioned 2011 open guns are on the same level as the steel gripped ones. These style guns are very pricey and are not what I'd consider affordable.

    Just my opinion.

    ^This.

    Buy once, cry once.

Affordable = Welfare Open = Carry optics.

I went to a new club in another state this weekend to shoot a Level 1 USPSA match.  They run squads at 9am Saturday, 9am Sunday and 1pm Sunday.  Of 84 scores posted in Practiscore, 13 of the shooters shot it twice, and 2 shooters posted 3 scores.  Some in the same division, some in multiple.  The overall match winner shot open on two different squads.  Is this normally allowed?  Seems like you should only be able to post one score in a match, as doing multiples is like having a practice run, especially if shooting the same division multiple times.  I know in local IDPA match, they let you take a second run, but add 900 seconds to your time ensuring the second run was just for fun/practice.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks.

One of our local matches has AM and PM squads.  A few people shoot both.  Nothing wrong with it.  And BTW there is no "overall match winner".  This concept of HOA has been exacerbated by the way Practiscore reports scores.

...dropping them in a 100 hole gauge by hand is no more efficient than dropping them in a single hole, and it costs another hundred bucks...

Trust me, it is a lot faster.  Especially if you are putting them into ammo boxes. You can pick up multiple rounds at a time and drop  in the Hundo

  12. If you are a 4-division D class shooter, there is a lot of low hanging fruit.  Pick one division, Carry optics as suggested above makes sense due to aging vision and cheap ammo, and practice.  Get a dry fire book, take a class, work on fundamentals, etc. It sounds like you've been doing this too long to be stuck in the 30% range. And let's be realistic, revolver is dead in USPSA.  Save it for ICORE
