Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. I'm happy to see most posters are interested in working with double alpha to solve problems with the SHOTMAXX timer instead of just trashing it when they have an issue. As an Engneer I know how difficult it is to field a product that can't be broken by a user. I've got some suggestions for the company but they are on hold until the current issues are put to bed.
  2. BoyGlock, do you get the same audio that I got when you set the alarm and it goes off?
  3. SHOTMAXX problem. Unit worked during two range outings including linking and transmitting data to my iPhone but now there is no BEEP to signal timer start and no BEEP when I set a PAR value. I have changed the BEEP type between 1 and 2 - same problem. The battery is charged. When I set the alarm with either a type 1 or 2 BEEP the alarm sound is a soft fairly high frequency tone with a clicking sound about every one second. Everything else seems to be working except the BEEP. All I want to know is where's the BEEP. Anybody else had the same problem?
  4. This is a great thread. I just set up my Dillon XL 650 and have had issues with reliable powder drop. I'm using Alliant Bullseye trying to drop 4 gr. I cycled the drop four times after hitting my 4 gr goal so figured I was good to go. After about 100 rounds I retested and the powder drop was 3.5 gr. I called Dillon and they said that they are in the process of rewriting the fail save adjustment in the manual. Told me to compress the spring on the fail safe completely and then back off a turn. I told them that I also had rotated the powder drop assembly as far as I could towards the primer tube to stop the outer bellcrank from catching on the powder dispenser body and clanking on both up and down strokes. They told me the unit should be set straight but when I move it back the bellcrank continues to hit the body and shakes the powder drop unit on both the up and down stroke. This thread shows me I am not alone being annoyed with this. Since the bellcarnk is intentionally bent inward they must want these impacts to occur. I intend to ask them if it is done on purpose to shake the powder container to keep the powder settled. Since I use their powder checker in station three I'm not concerned about a missed powder drop or a double drop. There have to be lots of folks out there since the last post on this thread in May of 2013 that have similar issues. I'll post my final configuration after all is settled.
  5. Thanks Reinz my concern just dropped down a few notches.
  6. Thanks for the inputs. How dangerous is the occasional inverted primer. I would think inserting it could be quite dangerous. I'm just setting up my Dillion XL 650 and haven't even loaded my first round and just read grant22s posting about a primer pickup tube detonation as he pulled the pin to drop primers. Made me start thinking seriously about primer handling, machine grounding, grounding straps, grounding mats anti static spray etc. grant22's incident occurred in Lake Havasu, AZ when the humidity was very low so lots of potential static electricity. I'm in Las Vegas, NV. Same problem.
  7. I'm considering purchase of the RL 100 but I've seen a YouTube video showing some issues with inverted small primers. Anyone have problems with inverted small primers?
  8. Double Alpha hit a home run with the SHOTMAXX! Had trouble trying to download shot strings into the iPhone SHOTMAXX TRAINER software until I read AdamM's post on 09 April outlining a procedure using a dummy drill.
  9. Brian's book Practical Shooter is much different than I expected.

  10. At 70+ I've been fighting the eye issue for some time. Progressive lenses seem better than bifocals for shooting but still far from perfect. Recently I acquired my first AR-15 and equipped it with and EOTech EXPS3-2 with a 2-Dot 1 MOA reticle. Selected it mainly because of the easy target acquisition with both eyes open and the reduction of parallax but the greatest benefit for old eyes has turned out to be the fact that the reticle is in effect projected on the target and is in perfect focus with my distance glasses so no more fuzzy front sights. Next step is a Trijicon on my Glock 34. I guess I'll be starting out on the dark side.
  11. Great post. I plan to try to apply your philosophy when I shoot my first match. I say try because I think it's going to be hard not to rush it. I recently purchased a SIRT pistol and practice with it every day. My trigger mechanics are improving because of it. What are your thoughts about the SIRT pistol and how do you practice dry fire with it?
  12. I was having the same issue. I purchased the SIRT laser training pistol. http://www.nextleveltraining.com/ It's a great dry fire tool. With the dummy weight magazine it's the same weight as a fully loaded GLOCK 17/22. It has two lasers. The red laser is initiated at trigger take-up and a green laser indicates a shot. If you are resetting properly the red laser will not go out. And if you are slapping the trigger you will see the green laser sweep left and low. If the green laser stays on target your trigger mechanics are right on. You also can adjust the trigger to match your actual handgun. Adjustments include 1. Initial Trigger Location 2. Trigger “Over-Travel” Location 3. Trigger Break Location 4. Trigger Take-Up Force (.5 lbs - 10 lbs.) 5. Trigger Break Force 6. Degree Of Sear Engagement This training aid ain't cheap but the instant feedback and the fact that you can dry fire thousands of rounds building that all important muscle memory will offset the cost of firing a lot of rounds on the range with little feedback on trigger mechanics.
  13. New member in Las Vegas Nevada. After over 50 years could no longer stand the California nanny state so we packed up my business home two dogs and a cat and moved to a more business friendly and 2nd amendment friendly state. I just joined USPSA and my wife and I are members of the Desert Sportsman's Rifle and Pistol Club in town. Awesome 450 acre facility. Also Endowment Life Member of NRA and have multiple life memberships at Front Sight in Pahrump Nevada. Getting as many of my family and friends to join as well. Took the Front Sight 4-day defensive handgun course a little over a year ago and was very impressed. Been researching the three gun world for the past several months and just started acquiring equipment. It's already obvious that my equipment is going to be a whole lot better that I am. Kinda like golf. It's the golfer and not the clubs. My wife and I are in our early 70's and she can out shoot me with her SIG P226. She just picked up a SIG P938 carry gun and I attached a photo of her first shot with it at 5 yards. Not staged. She really did it. Look forward to learning alot on this blog, meeting new friends and contributing any interesting facts that I run across on my travels through sport shooting.
