  1. I wondering what wight and brand of recoil spring you guys use on your edge or edge pattern 2011?

I am shooting 40 major if that helps. I am thinking that even when I rack the slide, it seems a bit stiff. I have just over 1000 rounds through it and I don't know if that makes a difference or not.

    Thanks in advance

  2. I have two things to say. First, did you use Magtech primers? Those are the only primers I've ever had dead ones with. I think they were shorter or something and required a primer depth adjustment? I don't really know. I went back to Winchester and never had another issue. I've also used CCI's without issue. But make sure your primer depth is bottoming out the primers. A good way to check is set the round on a flat surface like glass, or a good laminate type table top. If any wiggle, your primers are too high.

Secondly, some advice my gunsmith gave me. Don't put grip tape on for a few months. Get used to the gun and grip before adding the tape. I liked that route. It was a welcomed change after I was using the stock grip for a while. Also, don't skimp on it. Have someone sand the grip down and put the tape on. This way the grip stays the same size. I did it myself without sanding at first and then my gunsmith replaced it for me later and did it the correct way. WOW, what a difference it made. I also had him do it for me because if he sanded too much and screwed the grip up... it was on HIM to replace it.

    Have fun!

I always check my primers on every round. That is one reason that I like to put them in ammo boxes instead of just any old container.

I think I will take your advise and keep with the stock grip for now. Maybe I will get a Extreme grip and then experiment on the stock one a bit.

I am really hoping that a PT grip will magically become available before then.....

    Thanks for the input!

  3. Weekend off work finally! :goof: I'm game if you'd like a tag-a-long on Sunday? I've got a Pro chrono I can bring too, but I wouldn't mind comparing my readings to someone else's chrono(RVB).

    Itl's on!

gimmie a shout on saturday and we will set a time up!

RVB if you are in let me know!!!! I have ammo to burn!!!

  4. I think 1000 rounds is a good number for the initial break in period. I finally cleaned that blaster over the weekend. Holy Crap was it dirty! I followed the Brazzos suggestion and I didn't clean it, just kept it lubed up. I can report that not one single issue popped up! The only issue I had was with some of my reloads. I think that the primers I had were a bad batch or something. I was getting perfect strikes and no detonation at all. I picked up a new batch of primers and no issues for in about 300 rounds or more. The chrome finish really lets you know where the dirt and grime is! I only did a field strip clean because I am too chicken to break the gun down any more. I know, I know.....I am going to have to get brave and break it down all the way and give it a good cleaning.

I am thinking that now that I know my loads are going to be OK, that I want to experiment with the recoil spring a bit. Even just racking the slide, I feel like the spring is too heavy. Also thinking about he too-less guide rod to make things a bit easier. But the truth is that it isn't that hard to begin with so I will wait until I decide to order the recoil spring and do them both at the same time i suppose. Still trying to decide on the grip as well. The stock grip is doing damn good as far as I can tell. I don't seem to have any trouble except when I reload. My little girl hands have a hard time reaching the over-sized button. Still haven't decided weather get on the waiting list for a PT steel grip or to order an Extreme Shooters grip. I would really like a Red grip to keep the aesthetics consistent, and to be a bit different from everyone else. I am wondering it a shorter trigger length would help me out or not.

All this really pisses me off now the STI came out with the DVC limited gun with all the bells and whistles already done to it. Including the slide lightening! That is the real kick in the shorts! for a few hundred more than what I first paid, I could have the lightened slide, the Extreme Shooters grip, and a two pound trigger! Oh well.....I do like my gun a hell of a lot more than I did my M&P and I can shoot it a lot better as well.

I loaded up 100 rounds last night so I could try out my new bullet boxes. I picked up 4 of the Smart Reloader boxes and they are pretty darn nice. I don't think the hinges will wear out like the others that are made of one piece of flexible plastic. I also received my order that had the media separator and the Red Dawson Sandpaper grip tape. Not sure if I am going to like the tape or not. i wrapped it around the grip without sticking it on just to get a sense for it. I have to take the magwell off to put them on, so I think I am going to give it a go this weekend on Sunday and test out the new Zero bullets as well. I need to ask RVB to get the crono back out so I can be sure I am not shooting Bunny Farts out of the new gun. Gimmie them Major Power Factor Points Bitch!

  5. Sheesh relax? Did I say something that sounded tense? It's just the first time I heard this and I was just checking. No harm intended

I'm just play'n......don't get yer panties in a bunch.

I don't really do serious very well, so just ignore me.

    :roflol:

    :goof:

    :surprise:

    :roflol:

  6. Going to test some Zero bullets that I got last night. I have to increase the flare on the cases a bit as well. If they don't work out, I will just go back to the Powerbond bullets. They seem to work pretty darn good so far. But I am hoping that the hollow points will beat the poop out of the steel

I also have some grip tape that I am thinking about trying out as well.

  7. Oh shit! yeah you need to get reloading!

if you want to load some 9mm let me know. we can set my press up and crank out a butt load.

Freedom munitions has competition loads too....I think you can get some lite bunny fart loads too

  8. Made an unexpected trip to the range today, and boy was it worth it!

I beat the snot out of the A zone and the reloads went bang every time for about 500 rounds!

I have some learning to do as far as dealing with the recoil properly with the .40's I experimented with some things and found a sweet spot as far as grip and general tension in my wrists and hands. I have a long way to go to make the changes permanent but I think it will happen. Some strength training is going to go a long way to helping me get a better and consistent grip, as well as the proper position for my upper body in general. I just have to practice the right way to make those things habit. I can't just stand there plugging away for a full mag holding the tension in my entire body. I have to go through the entire draw stroke and fire each time. the draw with the new holster is different as well, and I will have to find the most efficent way and burn that in will dryfire.

so I am going to work on:

    Grip grip grip

    draw stroke

proper tension in my wrists, arms and back!

  9. I need a better grip for my new edge.... So it is between waiting a million years for the Phoenix trinity or getting an Extreme Shooters small textured grip. I was just looking to get some feedback on how people are liking the Extreme grips, and if there is anything that I should watch out for. I have pretty small hands and I am hoping that with a smaller grip I can reach the trigger in a more optimal position. I would really rather have a Phoenix grip in red if it was a perfect world, but I will take what I can get...

Thanks in advance for the feedback

  10. My first mag rattles also with the TTI followers and springs but allows me 21 in first mag and I barney the first round to start with 22 rds. All they do is run and have never had any issues with them. But it does sound a lil funny hearing them rattle. They are also tuned mags.

I've heard of folks able to load 21 reloadable rounds in a 2011 mag, but not many tell you what combination they use to allow 21 reloadable rounds in the mag. What kinda voodoo does it take?

The only voodoo in my case is that I have all TTI guts and basepads.....they get 21.

They do "feel" better at 20 though. So I think I will stick with that and Barney

  11. got about 15 mins of dry fire in tonight. Grip is coming along well, but I am having some wrist pains that are new....some weight training might help with that.

More dryfire tomorrow and ordering some more bullets as well. I think I am going to try the Zero 180 hollow points this time and see how they do.

More range time this weekend as well if the weather doesn't kill the roads.....any one wanna go shoot?

  12. Testing went great! Got the gun sighted in for me and the rounds, and my groups were nice and tight. I got some great pointers from the range officer on my grip and trigger control. The grip change tightened my groups up instantly and the trigger work was getting them even tighter. I'm excited to dry fire and get these changes burned in.

I had about 5 rounds that didn't fire. They all looked to have good primer strikes but no detonation. The new case feeder cut the reload time in half, so I can have more time for practice.

When I was shown the correct position for my grip I made a mark on the Web of my strong hand that lines up with the center of the beavertail. That is a huge help lining this up.

    great shooting day.

  13. Just picked up a Dawsons Edge and now these come out!!!

What about some sort of credit program or something? Literally just got it a week before I saw the new DVC's!

    Help a fella out STI!!!

Or you could sell me the Edge for cheap so you have the $$ for the DVC....

maybe next year......I think I am going to just keep it and see how the reports Of these guns in the wild go.

if I make A class I will treat myself to the DVC next year. I really hope these things are the new awesome sauce

  14. I have the conversion done on the reloading press, now I just need to crank out some test ammo and test it tomorrow before the indoor match! Once I get the setup finished, I should be able to crank out enough for a practice session and the match in an hour or so. I am excited to use the case feeder and see how much faster it is as well. It will be good to shake the rust off and get back into the swing of things with shooting.
