  1. The linked video explains what I wanted. Maybe we'll get there someday. This was posted a few weeks before the BOD meeting. Yes, I am speaking to a broad audience that may not be shooting competition yet, so I feel the need to bring them up to speed. You can fast forward a few minutes.

I also later thought that full cap mags would not be good. Allowing full cap mags could result in production shooters using their regular iron sighted Prod guns in CO, just so they would not have to reload. I think this forces CO to be a 10 round division. Having said that, you can't have a major/minor 10-round division b/c minor would not be competitive, and we don't want that. Result is I think this has to be a 10-round minor division, which is what we got.

Personally I'm excited about trying it out, even if what we got was basically "Production Optics."

I disagree. It should be full capacity minor, not having an optic would be the disqulafier for a production gun signing up as CO just as it is for a CO gun to sine up as production.

I really want this to reflect the guns that are actually being carried. I bag carry one everyday as aback up to my on body carry.. in my shooting group we have 10 Guns(with optics)in a core group of 40 shooters that are carried and or used in other shooting games ( 3gun/ 2gun / steel only) none of them meet CO restrictions: over stippled / over machined.

  2. Not in exact order:

    · Glock 17 ( with Jarvis Comp) 9X19mm

    · EAA LSP 9X19mm

    · Colt Delta elite 10MM

    · Colt combat commander with 2 chamber comp .45ACP (155gr bullets)

    · Glock 20 with a Hybrid comp barrel

    · Glock 17

    · Glock 22

    · Glock 17L

    · Glock 24

    · Glock 35

    · Glock 34

    · Springfield P9 LSP .40 S&W, had 2 configurations: un-ported limited barrel and ported + 3chamber comp. still have the cracked frame in my safe, bought the last EAA “ race frame “ the day after the 1994 AWB was signed moved all the components over and sold the whole package to fund my first 2011 SVI build. That SVI frame was the last one sold in CA with 5 High cap magazines.

    · SVI, 5” .40 Caspian slide, Bar-Sto Barrel. Sold to build a 5” LWD gun in .40

Now I have 9 2011’s with two additional top end configuration changes available.

  3. Well NROI finally answered on the m&p 9 performance center ported sku: 10098, Not submitted by S&W yet so not legal.

Therefore, I am now wondering exactly what “plastic gun company” was the driving force in this. Can’t be S&W as 50% of their offerings that would fit this CO Division are not legal. Oh and that would be their top 50% of offerings from the Performance Center that do fit right in to IMA Stealth Division, the other provisional / experimental division that the BOD has never heard of.

Common sense would have had CO be in line with:

    · The existing carry guns already in use with slide mounted optics

    · IMA Stealth Division rules

  4. Here is what I have so far for the top 25:

    1 Ben Stoeger - Tanfoglio

    2 Robert Vogel - Glock

    3 Nils Jonasson - Glock

    4 Alex Gutt - Tanfoglio

    5 JJ Racaza - Tanfoglio

    6 Ljubisa Momcilovic - CZ

    7 Rob Leatham - Springfield

8 Max Michel Jr. - SIG Sauer

    9 Matthew Mink - CZ

    10 Casey Reed - CZ

    11 Shane Coley - Glock

    12 Nick Yanutola - Tanfoglio

    13 Elias Frangoulis - ?

    14 Shannon Smith - Glock

    15 Robin Sebo - CZ

    16 Sal Luna - CZ

    17 Brad Engmann - M&P

    18 BJ Norris - Beretta

    19 Phil Strader - Glock

    20 Frank Garcia - Tanfoglio

    21 A.J. Stuart - SIG Sauer

    22 Matt Hopkins - CZ

23 Mason Lane - SIG Sauer

    24 Russell Maskey - Tanfoglio

    25 Lee Dotts - CZ

    CZ - 7

    Tanfoglio - 6

    Glock - 5

    SIG Sauer - 3

    Beretta - 1

    Springfield - 1

    Smith and Wesson - 1

Anyone know what Brad Engmann or Elias Frangoulis shot?

    Elias, shot a XDM.

  5. I was wanting to get that M&P pro core performance center with the porting. I guess I'm glad I didn't buy it. Oh, could you buy this with the slide and barrel porting and replace the barrel with a non-ported one(such as a KKM in same caliber)? Would that be legal for this division?

Those are legal in production provided the barrel ported barrel is replaced and this rule says if it's production legal then you should be good to go for CO.

"Ported models are allowed providing that the barrel is non-ported and the other requirements are met."

I think we need that one in writing, The PC CORE's have an external trigger overtravel stop that production CORE's dont.

I sent an email on 30 July asking on the legality and or status of the M&P Pro CORE Performance Center pistols, and still haven’t gotten a response.

The lounger I think about this the more I am convinced this Provisional “experiment” is purposely set up to fail.

    Design an exclusionary rule set:

    · Not allow the whole production list

    · Do not consider that this is an existing class of pistols in use by the public and that are modified beyond the production restrictions. (We are a small group of 25-50 shooters with 5 matches a month, there are at least 10 optics equipped Carry Pistols in our group and guess what none, zero are CO legal)

    · Don’t respond to questions or make rulings in the first part of a limited 4 mouth provisional window

I would have expected that the BOD would have had a NROI position on every current optics ready pistol in production before starting this, but no, we are waiting on rulings for models from S&W & Glock...

  6. "If we have an honest look at our divisions they are either a stagnant formula (Open, Limited) , a rules stagnant formula ( SS, Production) or a place to hide( L10, revolver)."

Soo...you don't like USPSA at all?

Seriously ??? Been at this since 1989, still shoot 3-5 matches a month. yes I have seen many changes and yes my opinion based on my experience is our current divisions are stagnant. If you feel different name the last "Game Changer" in any division (except Production I will give you the Unicorns).

  7. or a place to hide( L10, revolver).

Please stop lumping Revo with L10. It only has low participation numbers because you and your friends are too soft to come shoot a revolver.

I see the majority of stages being designed as 10 round neutral in the last few years.. This is a direct result of the increase in production popularity, last area 2 SS Shooters shot minor to avoid the 8 round major standing reloads and planing nightmares.. So no I don't understand the desire to shoot a 6/8 shot revolver in this sport it seems to be a lot of self inflicted pain, the equipment limitations don't fit in with the current status of stage design, if you enjoy that good...i never said we should drop any divisions, the polnt was intended to highlight that we currently have no division that has any room for innovation or experimentation.... My open guns I built in 1998 are still competitive today, not as stilish as the new guns but performance is the same. Same in limited the last big equipment jump was the 6" gun..L10 is a 2011 short loded mags..production is EAA/CZ so those platforms that we all beat to death in open and limited in the early 90's have found a home with minor PF...

  9. When I started shooting this sport in 1990 we were the cutting edge of innovation and pushing things to the limit, this CO rule set is just another example of how we (USPSA) are behind.

This class of pistol is out there in use already, 95% of them will not pass CO rules as written because they are not entry level pistol they are a high-end custom carry gun. They are an evolution of our warfighters having optics on their weapons for the last 20 years and having been engaged in active combat for the last 14 years. In that process, they learned the following points:

    · Tritium vials in pistol sights will light you up like an IR illuminator while holstered to anyone else on NVG’s

    · Tritium vials in pistol sights will bloom your NVG’s if you try to use them to shoot

    · Plain Irion sights are useless while warring NVG’s

    · LAM’s (Laser Aiming Modules) for pistols are large, heavy and power hungry

    · Aiming a pistol with a LAM is extremely difficult, shooter induced error on target is 100 times worse than with a long gun

The MRDS’s addressed all of the above points:

    · Reticle output is compatible with NVG’s

    · Power consumption on MRDS’s is low

    · Aiming a pistol with a MRDS on NVG’s is 100 times better than with a LAM.

These lessons have crossed over to the “Tactical world” now, but we as USPSA chose not to study and include this class of pistol, we simply take or most restrictive rule set and allow a MRDS to be added. Lets add that we are only doing a 4 month “provisional” period also, I think limited was 2 year “provisional” division? ( I am 50’s now so the memory is fading a bit). This is either a sign that our leadership is FUBAR or has set this up as a garneted FAIL.

The big mistakes in this rule set are:

    · Stippling / texturing is too restrictive, 90%(+/-) of the guns already in use have been modified with forward index points or under the trigger guard, things that are outside the allowed Production areas

    · External machining to restrictive, 80% (+/-) of the guns already in use have been modified with forward / top cocking serrations and / or slide lightening

    · External Trigger modifications to restrictive, 50% (+/-) of the guns already in use have been modified with aftermarket triggers

    · 10 round limit in a 140MM magazine??? Just plain stupid

I liked most of what was presented in the “Tactical Division” thread, but we should also consider what IMA-SMM3G has proposed for the “Stealth Division” in regards to the pistol also. Their box size makes you chose a 140MM mag and no optic or an optic with a standard mag.

    I carry M&P’s, I don’t have MRDS’s on them because:

    · I had them before the CORE came out

    · I can still see iron sights

    · DOD didn’t let me keep my NVG’s when I retired

I currently only shoot open and limited, I would be interested in shooting this division the issue is my guns are stippled outside of the production guidelines. I would have to buy a CORE and some Mag pouches (Have spare MRDS’s) and do the trigger work.

If we have an honest look at our divisions they are either a stagnant formula (Open, Limited) , a rules stagnant formula ( SS, Production) or a place to hide( L10, revolver).

I remember Open and Limited when innovation and technology was a factor, P9 based guns, 2011 guns, Caspian high caps, Para ords, Glock 24’s… Now it is a perfected 2011 formula.

  10. I bought the Apeiro back in Feb/March right after placing an order for the DVC (because of the 5-6 month wait) with the intention of selling off the Apeiro when it finally arrived. Well, now that both guns are here I'm having a hard time deciding which one I want to keep and which to sell! I really love both! Most of the time I'm thinking I will keep the Apeiro but then I go out and play with the DVC and really like it. I can't keep both!

Has anyone shot both of these pistols back to back and decided which they like better? Or, do you just have an opinion about which you'd keep? Or, how would you test both pistols to see which one you'd keep?

One thing about the Apeiro is that it has an AET barrel (pro and a con!) and it prefers FMJ bullets (expensive). I've been shooting 180g xtreme plated HP's and it is OK with them but I have noticed that the DVC is quite accurate with them.

Let me know what you'd do in a situation like this.

    Thanks!

Two is one, one is none... I wouldn't drive to any match without a back up gun for the division I was shooting that day, even at the range 5 min from my house. I would keep them.

  11. Only problems I've heard of with MBX mags was with .40, not the 9mm.

I haven't had any problem with mine, but asked what changes were done with followers. They completely replaced my springs and followers, even though I wasn't having problems.

They are using Wolff springs now as the original spring supplier wasn't giving consistent quality.

Customer service was fast and easy in my experience with them.

Try the open Pistol section (9mm = clue) about MBX, 4 pages in and Locked down
Would make sense as I don't read that section.

All I can say is that Adrian took care of me quickly and easily.

And I have had no response to my last 2 emails from him....

  13. I have two SDB’s one set for .38Super Comp and one set for .40 Limited. I usually tear one down and convert to 9mm or .45 once every 2 years and load a large pile of ammo for those 2 calibers.

I have been shooting a bit more 9mm ( steel only match and 3gun) in the past several years and have been supplementing the reloading with bulk new ammo buys due to the down time related to converting a loader over. I am torn between:

    · Adding a 3 rd SDB for 9MM ($385)

    · Adding a 650 for . 38Super Comp opining up a SDB for 9mm ($970)

  14. For 9mm 2011 the best magazines are ranked in this order:

    1. First gen SVI tubes with TTI or Grams guts and bases your choice (no spacers needed)

    2. MBX with a TTI spring replacement (no spacers needed). You can search on the spring /follower issues some of had and the lack of response to address the issues from MBX

    3. STI tubes, issues with tuning, spacers, followers, springs and lots of combinations… I do not have a good formula on tuning this combo and will continue to avoid this option at all costs.

If STI tubes were the only option I would probably ream the gun to .38 super comp to avoid the spacers, but that is just me as I already load for 3 .38 super comp guns.

  15. Caspian does not offer a tri-top option, or recommend it. You can get a flattened and serrated top, then have the rounds milled in to flats. I did this on two slides a 6” and a 5”, understanding that it voided the warranties. This is much thinner than a SVI or STI factory tri-top.

After several years use the 6” stared encountering intermittent feed and ejection issues. This was traced a stretched breach face it was imposable for any extractor (including an AFTEC) to hold an empty case against the breach face, I ended up replacing the slide with a STI tri-top. The 5” is a safe queen as the issue is starting to develop in it also. Made for a light slide with low mass over the barrel just not vary durable and one of the reasons I shy away from the current trend in rib caged slides.

  16. Vary limited run of 150 ea...

    Stocking dealer special...

Lightest "IDPA Leagal" slide profile (tri toped + hex serrations)...

    "IDPA Leagal" light rail...

This is the ultamat ESP gamer gun...

Plus pretty much GTG for 3gun...

I will wait for mine however ..long it takes.

  17. Speed Shooters International had a good report with Aaron Harris that used to make some of the largest magwells ever. Harris was a d---h---d to deal with but in all fairness, he was a great designer. They may still have some of his magwells left.

SHPD was the Best mag well ever, Just a heads up at one time Double Alpha offered a version without some of the exterior profile cuts. Pics of both attached.

  18. Weight is only 1/3 of what makes a great trigger . How a trigger feels when you shoot, how it breaks and how it resets is far more important to me. I want a really short reset ( 0.015"- 0.030") with a forward bias in the trigger. I use free hanging weights to test and set all my triggers. The following are my setups:

    · Limited 5” .40 is at 2LB

    · Limited 6” is 1.75LB

    · Limited 5” 9mm is 1.75LB

    · Open guns are over 1.5LB but under 1.75LB

Parts selection also plays a part in this, I only us the Clark 4 finger sear spring this allows greater latitude to adjust the disconnect reset function and forward trigger bias.I only use SVI or Extreme engineering Hammer, sear and disconectors.

    Out.
