  1. I agree...

If I was better equipped in the brain department I would love to build some kind of portable EMP device that was aimable. That way when they pulled thier crap I could zap not only all those lovely stero components but thier vehicle electronics as well.

    ZAP>>!!

  2. Been there done that.

I was shooting prone under a 2X4. After the second shot it seemed odd then I realized no front sight. It had popped it lean off the Glock I was shooting at the time. Of course it is interestingto see half a stage ahot with a sight and the other half without.

    Natural born point shooter I ain't :D

  3. Thanks for the help. I will get some of the back to black but I am going to have to try the peanut butter first if for no other reason to have my neighbors think I have finally snapped.

Man this should be called the BE Oracle instead of forums. The knowledge contained here is awsome. Maybe I shuld be quite before we get listed on the DHS radar.

    PS.

I will report back after I try it this weekend.

  4. Ok

I tried to be a nice guy and let the neighbors teenage son wash and wax my car for some spending money. Didn't really need it but I don't believe in handouts.

    Anyway....

He tried to be careful but still got some of the MEquires Gold paste wax on the door mouldings and such. Now how do I get it off? Any neat tricks beyond a toothbrush and cussing/swearing?

    Thanks, Steven

  5. Got one and wish I didn't. Hope your experience is better.

My advice is to find a weekly pool cleaning service and hire them. It is well worth the money not to have to fool with balancing chemicals and such.

Aslo as a side note. Since you having those wild parties and friends over check with your insurance agent about coverage. Most industry folks reccomend at a minimum increasing your liability on the homeowners and even better getting an umbrella policy to cover above and beyond. A 1 million umbreall is rather chep insurance. Mine costs me 345.00 / year until I added a teenage driver and it went to 690/yr.

  6. Yeah I go through my impulse shopping binges. Problem is the usual scenario is I get it in my head I want something. It takes me a month or two of research on every nit noid detail. The another month to convert want to need. Finally there is a flurry of purchasing that same thing I wanted 3 months ago. LOL!

Can't wait till it get here and I start cranking rounds. Of course I am going to have to invite the shooting buds over for a cookout or something and let them notice it on thier own Muwahhha hha hhahh...

  7. Ok folks you went and did it this time.

I have been wearing my arm out on a 550B for some time now. I have always looked at the sexy 1050 pics in the catalog (of course after proper oogling of the dillion girl du jour). Reality was the 650 would have met all my needs. Problem is I kept reading posts on the lauding the 1050 and waffleing. Then it happened.

One afternoon.. There I was at work and a lapse of self control washed over my body. Before I knew what was happening I was on Brian website looking at the 1050 pages. No harm I will just drool a little more. Then I decided to see what an order would cost out at. Hmm more than the 650 I need but definately can grow into it. Then everything went black.

It was like when you have been driving down the interstate for a while and look up and wonder where the last 5 miles went. I looked at the desk and my wallet was out and a credit card lay tossed to the side :o

The I looked at the screen and a Thank you for your order message was displayed

Then I realized that my inner self had taken control and done what my logical self could not bring itself to do.

I Purchased a 1050 setup in 38SC and a conversion for 40sc. Look out world I am dangerous now.

Brian was the best. He called to double check the order and fill in a couple of small gaps. First time I have talked to him and can now say I agree that he is one of the nicest folks I have had the pleaseure of dealing with. If only all other businesses were this great on customer service. (Note. Generally I have noticed the shooting industry tends this way.) I would place Brian right up at the top of any list in that area.

All my future Dillion orders and such go thought Brian now. If you want a hassle free deal and great personal service..... Don't even think about ordering through anyone else.

    YE HAAAAAA!

  8. Must be a woman thing to get all emotional. When my daughter (now 17) started kindergarten my wife (now ex wife)was dropping her off. After a week I had to one day and no tears, no 15 mins of goodbyes, I just dropped her off and left.

The next day the director asked my wife (now ex-wife) if it would be possible for me to continue dropping my daughter off to lower the disruptions. LOL!

Been handleing it ever since. OF course now she drives. It was a hoot watching the driver license instructor walk her out into the parking lot to climb in the Dodge 2500 Quad Cab 4X4 with Cummins Turbo Diesel. The look on the instructors face was priceless as my daughter manuvered it like a sports car.

  9. I went with the 500 to start. Nothing wrong with it but I have wished more than once I would have went to the 650. Of course I primarily load 2 calibers and load 1-2 thousand between setting up for the next run.

Now my big problem is upgrading to the 650 or going on to the 1050 since I have the 550 in reserve.

    sigh

  10. Yeah Phoenix is always at the top of the list. I have had the pleasure of shooting at Rio and participating in the Tuesday Night Steel festivities. BTW.. Thanks for that. I now own some steel because that was so much fun.

Problem is either needing to become indepedently wealthy or finding a job in my skill set in the area. I understand the Scottsdale area can be rather high on cost of living. And being publicized as a retirement community may almost be as bad as a tourist destination.

One of my MAJOR desires is to never live in a tourist destination again. I know Destin FL doesn't measure up to Mickey Land or such but it is enough to drive me nuts. It used to be just summer folks but now sping break and dang snowbirds running south we have some type of visitors year round clogging up beachfront and roads. The local government just panders away and slowly but surely you are only going to get to the beach via the federal park as the other access is going condo don't ya know. Oh well maybe I need to move that to a hate rant.

Atlanta huh??? That is only 6 hours away and I got buds in Cumming that can put me up for free. I may plan a look see sometime soon. Waffle houses are always a plus as well.

Washington Oregon may be stretching it for me. Cold can be a problem and on the surface you can always put on more clothes. You can only take off so much to deal with the heat. LOL! Living in Florida I am more acoustomed to heatand humidity than cold.

    Keep um coming folks.

  11. All:

Just curious if you have opinioins on a shooting mecca. mecca as defined by me is an area that within an hours drive you can shoot some type of action pistol/rifle/shotgun match any night of the week and on weekends. It should also have several active clubs of good folks that don't bitch moan and bellyache about every friggin detail.

I have shot in the phoneix area once and with one clubs exception (I will not mention here) I have never met more enthusiastic or nicer folks.

Why am I asking you might ask.. Well in one year my daughter goes off to get her coledge edukation :) and I can move on to enjoying my life again. :o

    Sooooo...

What would you reccomend as a mecca?

  12. ALL:

I wanted to touch base and see how many ofyou would be interested in a 2 day class taught by Matt Burkett ($495.00) on the ERML range(located in Pensacola Florida).

The class would be limited to 12 folks and is geared from beginner shooter (safe handling of firearms and comfortable moving/reloading/etc) to experienced shooters. His site mentions D-M (USPSA classifications) class shooters.

Here is a link if you want to find out more about what is taught and what is needed.

http://www.mattburkett.com/ <- look under training menu.

I can vouch for this training. It is well worth the money and I was so impressed by Matt's teaching skills I went out to his place for additional training. While this can be IDPA and/or IPSC oriented it is a wealth of info on HOW TO SHOOT. It is not all class either. You WILL shoot. I think I shot ~1000-1500 rounds over the two days.

The time frame would be sometime Oct/Nov. Currently guaging the interest level and running it past the clubs BOD.

If you are seriously interested in the 2 day event (ie willing to pony up dollars if it makes) then let me know. I am willing to coordinate it but we need 12 folks.

I am going to pass this around a couple of the other local clubs as well. But wanted to give first chance to my homies.

    Steven

    PS.

Can't promise but usually he brings a rifle or 2 and if you bring yours he can't resist showing stuff for them as well.

  13. I really appreciate the info folks.

I like the idea of "owenership" of the club.

Due to alot of flak over 500 fee a suggestion was made. It was an effort to acknowledge that the club will always be made up of those that want to be involved and those that don't care but want a place to shoot.

To answer both these groups it was suggested that two levels of membership be offered. 100.00 / yr to shoot and enjoy the range as a customer. The second membership level would require that you purchase "shares" of the club at 500.00 each. This would be in addition to the yearly 100.00 fee. Difference is the 500.00 shares would be voting shares. you would have to own at least one share to vote on any club issue or to be elected to the BOD. Controls would be in place to eliminate one individual or group from gaining a majority and taking over the club.

The screams then were of trying to divide the club into haves and hanve nots. I pointed out it already is by thier own devices.

    *SIGH*

Keep um coming I am readying my presentation for the meeting.

  14. Never again did I handprop and airplane without verifying the grounding circuit as part of my pre-flight. And never again did I take anyone's word for the position of mag switch.

I can't stand finger propping the RC type much less think about hand propping the full size critters.

    Now for my addition...

Never ride with your best friends dad to pick up a new ag truck (Commercial areail spraying plane) and never eargerly agree when he asks if you want to ride back with him in the airplane while his son drives the truck back. Why is this bad you ask? It was a one seater of course and I got to ride in the empty chemical tank. Maybe not that bad but then he wants to practice on a field on the way home.

  15. Ok to give a little more info..

The club currently has IDPA, USPSA (startup), SASS, military shooters, Blackpowder, and general shooting. We currently have no shotgun but that is because the current location did not lend itself to that.

    Plans that have been mentioned.

    12 pistol bays 35yd X 50yd

600 yd rifle range (with intermediate ranges as well) Covered

Trap and skeet if interest is large enough

    Clubhouse with AC/septic

    Onsite Stg for shooting disciplines.

    Steven

  16. Well for those of you that remember my club is in the process of trying to purchase land and get off our rental with the county. This is going to necessitate changes in the fee structure as well as cash flow of the range.

Currently the membership is 50.00 / year and no additional fees to shoot. The facilites area clay pit with (4) 100 yd ranges with covered shooting stations. There is no electricity or running water. A porta potty is supplied. Current membership is 800 with ~30-40 regular participants in the business meetings.

If a club was to charge a 500.00 (assessment for current members initiation for new members) and 100.00 a year dues, what would you want to see it offer in the way of facilities and disciplines. IN other words what would make you part with that level of $$ to join the club?

    Thanks for you inputs, Steven

  17. Ahh but the eternal question is

If you shoot a pistol in space and no one is around to hear it does it still make a noise ? LOL!

NO, Sound waves can not be transmitted through a vacuum.

Ok but the gaseous product expelled as part of the firing event would transmit sound. There exists a discontinuity between the gas and the vacum that sound cannot cross. So the sound wave energy would continue to bounce back and forth in its expanding universe of gaseous products until it expanded enough to partially encompass the shooter and transmit sound.

Of course the sound would attenuate and transfer its energy to the gaseous bubble via a heating process so it would not bang forever. :)

    BTW>

I saw a special on the atomic bomb. Did you know that early on in a test the engineers forgot to account for a lithium reaction in the event. The result was the observers were almost caught in the ground zero area because it expanded almost 3 times furhter than expected. The observers and engineers at the time thought they had accidentally set the hydrogen in the atmosphere on fire and were witnessing the uncontrolled reaction that would have incinerated the earth.

    Steven

BTW for those of us welathy enugh to test the theory the Russians are offering spacewalks now in addition to the trip to the space station. Add another 15 mill on top of the 20mill to get to the station and you can have a 90 minute space walk in a russian spacesuit.

  19. For the price this thing is costing and the fact that is doesn't carry the NO BS warranty I wouldn't have expected to see comments like

    Primer system issue

Flimsy sheet metal bracket and primer cup (expecially that the 550 was better)

Stock PLastic Bullet Tray??? Come on!

PLastic roller handle when AL is avail for lower end models

And finally not the first few posts talking about modifications to overcome some of these issues.

Oh well.. Don't get me wrong.. I like Dilllon and reload on Dillon but these reasons are why I have difficulty upgrading. It is marketed as a commercial machine (hence the reason for the different warranty) but has downgraded parts from the lower line machines. I am not bad mouthing Dillon but suggesting that if your going to market a "world class" "commercial machine" costing ~1500 base then whats an extra bit to make sure the primer system is bullet proof and put non-plastic parts as std.
