  1. All and especially Brian:

I am trying to decide between these two software for our clubs forum.

I thought at one point BENOS was Vbulletin but may be wrong. If not then what was the deciding factor to switch?

Also open to others suggestions and reccomendations. I don't want to start a bashing contest just looking for direction. Ease of Installation and Management are big Plusses

    Steven

    PS.

This will serve ~1000 folks and be the main communication system for our club

  2. Ok thanks guys....

I never looked under the foam in the case... *** sound of banging head against the wall ***

I was gonna call Dan or Chuck but it was after hours and late. Thanks for the pointers and I can now take the walk of embaraasment back into oblivion I hope.

I will drop some oil on it and keep it lapping away. :) This thing shoots great. I am glad I finally got one first hand for myself. I actually got bored with the 10-15yd shots and moved to 30-40 yd shots to play with it. Amazing. The recoil was inline and the sights just dropped back onto the tgt.

Thanks again for the quick responses...

  3. Hmm maybe some more info in order.

This is a bushingless gun. BBL is fit to slide. The recoil spring system has one piece that fits into the forward part of the slide (under where the bushing would be) and retains the recoil spring from exiting the front. The rest of the rod is a dual system but the system is not one you dissassemble. (no hex socket or anything else on muzzle end) The rod backend is staked in place.

I know not a good description. I can post a picture when I get it.

  4. Heh Guys:

Well I hate to do this but here goes....

I just recieved my Bedell Spitfire and promptly went and put 500 rounds through it to start the breakin. Well now it is time for a cleaning I would think... ;)

Here is the issue. I have only owned bushing guns before. I ended up getting the recoil srping assembly out and back in but the effort was way to much. There has got to be a better way. I hate to admit it but it took me ~45 mins and a cramped arm trying to compress the whole assembly and get it tucked back in.

The only other gun I have like this is a kimper pro cdp but it has a hole to pop a paperclip in to hold everything compressed. I didn't see a hole in this assembly.

I hang my head in shame.....

    Help me out...

  5. I don't see why leaving them in there would hurt. Just make sure you mark the tube somehow so you remember whats in there. I usually just crank out the rounds to finishe the primer magazine and stop there.

I also leave powder in mine all the time. I take some blue masking tape and write the powder type and load the measure was set for so I don't forget. My room is indoors and climate controlled so the humidity issue is not that big a deal for me.

I routinely load up a 1000 primers in the tubes and leave them laying beside my press. When I work my way through them I load up another 1000. I have had 3000 loaded into tubes at on point.

I guess it really depends on your reloading environment. If mine was outside and where kids could get to it I probably would practice a different set of rules.

  6. Haven't had one yet but my dad has had them. From hsi reactions it seemed rather uncomfortable (Understatement)

I am just waiting for the ladies to come along and post about

"You think that is pain? Try pushing a head the size of a large grapfruit out. Then we can talk pain mister. Childbirth RULEZ ya bunch of wussies"

This is usually where it goes about this point in the conversation.

  7. When doing your drill remember to follow through after the shot. IE hold the sight picture after recoil for a few seconds. This feedback is invaluable bot hconciuosly and subcounciously. You can adjust grip/pressure/finger postion etc based on that feedback.

A BAD example is doing draws. You hear the buzzer...draw as fast as you can...fire the shot.. then immediately drp the pistol to look at the target. BAD BAD BAD LOL!

Another thing using the same example is to do the drill slowly at first paying attention to each move and economizing the motion. Speed up as you go till you flub it. Back off build up again. MUSCLE MEMORY ON CORRECT TECHNIQUE.

Establising the grip is FIRST AND FOREMOST before you draw.

Anyways. Just passing along what helped acceleerate my skills set.

  8. Like rubbernecking at a car wreck... :P

Never thought of it that way but YEAH!

I just hope they don't start a demerit system for spelling and grammer errors.

I was looking at some of my posts and it looks like english is a second language for me.

  9. Having sort of tested the existing powder setting, I can only guess that I was short-stroking the press. Any other explanations that are likely?

I suppose I should also take the powder assembly apart and make sure there's nothing floating around in there that would partially obstruct the powder bar.

Short Stroking would be one cause but it would seem it would show up in longer OAL as well. Check that.

Another thing I would check would be to make sure the white plastic square thinginy (technical term so let me know if I am talking over ya head) on the side of the powder measure is traveling its full throw.

Make sure the powder measure didn't get low (I usually fill it at the half mark.

Other than that make sure your stroke is long enough, smooth and consistent.

Don't worry I haven't gone blind yet but I do wear glasses.

  10. I just love that little closed Icon.

Threads I may never have looked are are now added to my perusal list.

I figure if it is enough to get closed it must be interesting :)

  11. Taz..

I have loaded on a Lyman Single stage, Lyman T-Mag, Hornady Pro-jector, 550B,650 (friends) and now the 1050.

I would have saved myself alot of time and grief if I had just went straight to the 550B starting out and once I had one or two calibers that are 90% of my shooting get the 1050.

It is an awsome machine with a great feel. Can I justify the cost? Not really but then again I have a gun safe full of things I can't justify the cost on. LOL!

I just changed the 1050 over from 38SC to 40SW. It took me 1 hour and that was setting up new dies along with changing the press over. I figure once I get used to it I could do it in 15-30 mins. I am using it to load 2-3000 of a caliber then swap for the other. Puts me swapping calibers once a month.

If you have 1 or two calibers that handle 90% of your ammo needs and already have another general press I would go for the 1050.

    Steven

  12. Thx folks..

I required a half turn on the primer depth adjustment so it wasn't much. I am still getting used to it and didn't want to not understand something.

The 38sc rounds I loaded (1500) were on new brass, JHP rounds. Smooth sailing.

The 40sw stuff is mixed headstamp glocked brass. I amusing the Undersize resizing die. Not quite as smooth LOL!

I did have a problem with some speer brand cases. the old primer looks to not be pushed completely out. The swager sqaushed it real nice. The first one made it through to the primer seating before I noticed a problem. (Thought it was the extra effort of the glocked 40 brass). Lets say I am amazed that the new primer didn't go pow.

Another adjustment on the decapping pin and all was sailing great for the 100 round test batch.

Now.. I need another 1050 so I can leave one setup for wach caliber :D

    Steven

  13. All:

I was swapping the machine over from 38sc to 40sw. They both are small primer pockets and am using the same brand primer although the 38sc uses the Winchester SRP and the 40sw uses the SPP.

I was assuming I wouldn't have to mess with the primer system on this. However, the primers need to be seated deeper in the 40sw than the adjustment had on the 38sc. Is this to be expected?

    Steven

  14. They are both correct. The basic concept is not to have the die contacting the plate when the handle is pulled. This would bind the system and create consistency issues as well as operational problems. The redding is telling you the same thig but it is nice to have the Mic readings in front of you.

This is a seating die so how far down it goes on the case (with out binding the shellplate) is not critical.

    Steven

  15. Ok so here is the update.

Took a little longer to setup than I thought. I tried to follow the assembly instructions from the manual. However, the exploded diagrams in the back were clearer to me and I used the text only as guidance on what to do next.

I forgot to get 1/4" bolts of course so had to wait till the next day to make it past the hardware store.

I spent most of my time trying to figure out the powder checking mounting. Do not like the way it has to be rigged for the 1050. Never did get it to consistently hold and finally it looseened enough to snap the palstic case off. I will have to re-engineer that thing.

I also swapped out the seater for the redding one I had on hand. Of course meticulously set the depth and then adjust the mic ro read the actual OAL. Of course I forgot and did this with no cases in the other stations so once the carosel was loaded I was off. I just adjusted it and decided to heck with beign anal about the actual rading on the mic.

Now I setup the powder , loaded a tube of primers, loaded the case feeder, and spritz one-shot on them. And away we go... LOL I cranked out 10 or so rounds. The remember I said I loaded a primer tube... well I didn't put them in the primer feed in my exuberance to start laoding. O fcourse powder and crap everywhere now. sigh.

Some cleanup time, loaded the primer mechanism and tried again. I cranked out 800 rounds of perfect ammo before a problem. after the downstroke I would lift the handle and it would hang. Checked powder measure, primer slide, case feed, etc. all were ok. Applied a little more pressure and it released. checked for high primer but nothing. Did it 3 more time before I found out it was the dang ratchet. tightened the setscrew and all was well then it did it again after 300 more rounds. Either I am loctiting the set screw or it has to go.

This is a fantastic machine. Not one case misfeed or one primer problem. I was Qualtiy control checking 5 of 100 rounds and it got boring because they were all the same.

Next feat will be to try a caliber change to 40 from 38

My advice is get a 1050.... It is the shiznit.

  17. Thanks for the pointers. I will look tonight when I install it and either they are on the disk or I can get them from the website.

Since studio 8 is just the collection of dreamweaver, flash, contribute etc..

Any reccomendations for third party books to learn ddreamweaver 8 from? Usually the adobe/macromedia books are so-so. I have also heard to stay away from any books published by "straight from the source" as they usually contain erros.

    thanks again.

  18. If the S.O. went through and cut all the heads off of all the bad guys then I'ld just tell him that I want max time and points because I don't need to kill them since they have already been decapitated. :D

 I like that one.. I may use it if the situation comes up again.

This was nto the SO it was the Pres of the local club. He has been an absentee landlord of late and came back for this match. We basically juts have a different view. He viewes it as training and tactical scenarios. I view it as a game and enjoy shooting it.

When I started up the trial IPSC club he asked me did I think that it qualified as Offensive tactics versus the defensive tactics of IDPA.

I told him I viewed it as a game played with firearms and all bets are off if return fire is headed your way.

Problem is he was an IPSC shooter in the old defunct club. Even more interesting is I was told he doesn't shoot major matches anymore because he disagreed with an interpretation of the rules once and was overruled. Since then he just runs the local club with a cadre of lemmings.

I went through everything (his class) to get SO cert for IDPA. Funny I never got my name sent in LOL!

Oh well live and let live....

  19. Ok:

Since I am taking some calses at the junior college this semester I decided to take advantage of my educatonal status and purchase the academic version of Studio8.

The software I ordered came in but seems to be just the disks (I haven't opened it yet incase I need to return). Did the products quit shipping with hard copy refernce/guides?

If so what other sources (books training CD's) do you reccomend for me to get started with?

Thanks for taking the time to help an old dog learn new tricks.

    Steven

  20. Nope but I did win the side match dueling tree contest. :)

The match was my frist with a revo. The reloads were comical, the brain fades numerous and the different grip was interesting. However, they didn't add up to any sort of match win :)

    Steven

  21. Well I shot an IDPA match today.

One stage had some tgts setup inline where basically you had to jog left and shoot two rounds, Jog right shoot two more rounds, then jog left and shoot the final two rounds. NS were interspersed to force ya to dance.

One gentleman found a way to shoot it via standing in one spot and taking all head shots. The MD did not like that because he wanted the honkey shuffle to take place. So.... He cuts the heads of each tgt and forces the guy to reshoot. This in spite of the fact that no headshots was not covered in the walkthrough. Does cutting the head off make it an illegal ttg? Argument was to no avail.

They also had a steel at 47yds to be engaged behind cover. No big deal but since he was being a stickler I did point out that they had 2 steel in a stage with thre tgts. No more than 25% of the shots required on any string of fire may be on steel targets I also pointed out that IDPA allowed for occasional tgts out to 35 yds. The defacto 35 yds being the occasional limit should have precluded the 47 yd tgt. I can use a rule book as well as the next guy. Again I am MD and my word is LAW!

Oh well I think I will mount the rulebook on a lanyard and hang it around my neck next match for easier reference

I did invite the gentelment out to my USPSA match and invited him to game all he like as it kept me on my toes.

  22. Well I just wanted to drop a note and say how much I enjoy dealing with www.comp-tac.com

The guys had convinced me to shoot this Sunday's IDPA match with a revolver. I had a cheap holster that was fine for occasional use. OF course in the midst of a practice session It broke.

I called comp-tac on Tuesday and talked to Tammy and JB. Told them of my plight and told them I wanted a nre paddle holster for my 625-8 4"bbl. I then laid it on them that I would need it delivered no later than Saturday to shoot with on Sunday.

JB said he would try but could not garuntee it. Well Wend. Tammy called and told me they got it finieshed but UPS failed to pick it up. I told her I wanted it whether it got here for Sunday or not and to just ship it. Well she called back a bit later and said she had gotten UPS to pick it up and 2nd day it.

I got the holster Friday and it was excellent quality and excellent service. This was nto the first time I ordered from them and it definately will not be the last. I will go out of my way to support folks/companies that treat thier customers right.

    Just letting the world know.

    Steven

    LEGAL DISALIMER:
