  1. That's a nice Caspian. Did you fit the barrel yourself?
  2. Yeah she's a little nose heavy but nothing that won't be manageable. I'm just starting out so I doubt I'll be making GM any time soon. I'm just going to work up a load with n350 that keeps the dot tracking as straight up and down as possible and learn to shoot the gun well.
  3. Thanks for the tips. I was planning on starting around 6.5 to be on the safe side but I'll probably bump that up now. Not to much though. I have to invest in a chronograph after the holidays. I've been using a friend's since I started reloading but having to bug him every time I change something is getting old. I have a buddy with a Caspian open gun in 38 super. I'm going to see what grain bullet he uses. His gun runs like a sewing machine every time. I think I'm going to in list his help. But I enjoy getting extra info from the great people on this sight as well.
  4. The guy I bought the gun from only used n350 for his loads. Since he doesn't have any other race guns he sold me the 5 pounds of n350 that he had left. He also threw in a pound of CFE to try and gave me about 1500-2000 once fired 38 super brass. All for $180. I couldn't pass it up. What's a good starting point for n350? I plan on ordering a few thousand MG 115 or 124 grain after Xmas. Not sure which one yet, any insight on that would be helpful too.
  5. It definitely looks like the brazos in the picture. I think the first thing I'm going to change is the thumb safety. I'm going to go with the Swenson. The ones on there now are very loosely fit. With the slide off if you move the safety up a little the right side will fall out if the gun is tilted to that side. It happened when I was taking the pics. Surprised the hell out of me
  6. I tried to attach some pics but it says they are to big. I tried to crop then and still to big. If anyone knows how to make then smaller I can enroll then to you do you can shrink them. Our if someone wants I can email them to you too take a look.
  7. I was thinking about sending him done pics to see if he remembers the build and see if I can find more info about the gun.
  8. So I just bought an open gun. I'm sure it's older as it was made by Tripp Research when they were in Austin TX with what send to be a low serial #. The barrel I currently have is a nowland barrel with a big comp : no clue on who made the comp: I haven't shot it yet do I don't know if it needs replacing. I know I'm not really interested in poppel holes at the moment. Add the top of the slide is milled add it runs onto the back of the comp. I'm just looking to get some ideas incase I do need to replace it. The powder inn going to be using is VV n350 with 124 gr MG bullets if that helps. I will take some pics of it later when I get home.
  9. If anybody has a cmore serendipity or slide ride they are looking to get rid of, I am in the market for one. I just purchased an old Tripp Research open gun and they guy told me the battery was dead. I went and got 2 357's and put them in. The dot doesn't work when switched on but works in between clicks. I prefer 8moa or bigger but I will take any dot size and switch it out if needed. This is my first open gun and I was hoping to shoot it today but that ain't happening.
  10. Want to share some of your brass? I will be glad to pay for shipping. Haha
  11. I have a range officer in 9mm and it's been absolutely 100% reliable one I ditched the factory mags for Tripp Research cobra mags. I changed the black front sight for a Dawson fiber optic front and put a Dawson ice mag well on it. I use it for steel challenge and walls of steel matches. I plan to use it for uspsa or idpa this summer.
  12. Drive like the wind I took a half a day today so I could take a trip to get it before the weekend.
  13. This is the exact open gun I will be picking up tomorrow night.
  14. Thanks for the help guys. I will try and post some pics of the gun I'm getting and let you know if I score on the hs6 powder and maybe try to get some good major load data from you guys
  15. I got a lead on 8 pounds of hs6 from a friend of mine. Now I just have to drive a little over an hour to get it tomorrow.
  16. What do you guys think about blue dot powder? I just read that's a slow burning powder and I know someone that has a few pounds to spare
  17. What about minor? I don't shoot uspsa yet. I mostly shoot steel challenge, walls of steel and 1 pro-am match. With the comp would I need to change out my recoil spring for a lighter one to work the action? Or do open guns with comps not run well with minor loads?
  18. Steve thanks I will give it a shot. I have a ton of 9 brass and I already load 9 so it would be better for me. My next question is I have 3 powders on hand and I would like to know if anyone has load data for 9 major. I have VV N320, Win 231 and bullseye. Using 124 xtreme or 124 bayou bullets. Any help would be appreciated.
  19. So I have a great opportunity to buy a tripp 2011 chambered in 38 super with 7 mags a holster and mag pouches for a good price. The thing is I don't load for 38 super and don't have any brass for it. After some research I found that the 38 super brass is quite expensive. I was wondering how hard it would be and what do I have to do to switch from 38 super to 9mm. Is it as simple as buying a new barrel add having it fitted and buying spacers for the mags? I figured there must be quite a few members on here that have gone through this process and would be able to guide me in the right direction. Sorry if a post like this already exists. I did a search and came up empty.
