  1. My DQ was just before the last four shots of the match - on a reshoot.

Our whole squad had to reshoot a stage at the end of the day because our RO gave us the wrong start position. Near the end of the stage, i had to run into an "alleyway" lined with tyres, shoot a target and then run back out to another location. In backing out, my foot clipped a tyre and the gun (slightly) broke the 180 as i stumbled. It swung down, pointed at the floor and then swung a few degrees past straight down because of the momentum. Luckily i managed not to fall, or point anywhere actually dangerous (the squad were well away out of the line of trouble).

Bummer, but i guess i should have been looking at my feet.

  2. Buckled cases happen when the crimp die is adjusted too far down relative to the final seating depth. The crimp locks the bullet in place before the seating stem has finished pushing down - so the force buckles the case.

Back off about a quarter turn on the crimp die, but screw the seating stem in a touch to compensate, and the problem should go away.

  4. Leave USPSA alone.

"This is my ball and you can't play with it."
Not at all. Pretty childish to even say that. But it is mine and every other members game. I for one don't think we need to be more like IPSC. Their system works where shooters have to sneak into buildings to shoot and only the very rich or elite can even own guns in many countries.

We are USPSA because we are in the USA where there more guns in most single states than there are in all of Europe.

Too much of a generalisation I'm afraid. We shoot IPSC all over the world, and your comments about IPSC don't apply to most of us.

Frankly i believe the shape of the target is irrelevant and i can't understand the amount of IPSC-bashing in this thread based purely on the fact we have a different target shape. We're not actually bad people. .....

  5. So when you put in a hardened steel slide stop, what becomes the next sacrificial part to break? Or is the rest of the gun strong enough that it can survive infinite fatigue cycles? I would be interested if anybody has a good opinion on that

  6. The structure of our sport actually makes it easy to only compete against "amateurs" if that's what you want to do. Just go through the results list and cross out anybody you don't want to compete against.

At the end of the day, if you've got Excel and some spare time you can slice and dice the results any way you want, and recalculate match scores and placings appropriately.

Personally I only care about my own result, and i want that to be ranked consistently against the "gold standard " of the best shooters around, so i can see how i am progressing. I don't care who the top shooter is - he could be a fully sponsored cyborg for all i care - as long as I'm improving compared to him then I'm happy

  7. I'm just saying anything that stays the same will eventually fade out.

I think the sport is at a point where we can stay the same and see minimal growth or even loss or try new things and see Uspsa go a different direction of engaging members, increase interest, and add a new passion to the sport.

I guess my words did sound like it's dying. That's not what I intended. I just didn't want it to be stale for prospective members.

I believe marathon running started in 490 BC and it hasn't faded much....

Sorry - just messing with you.

  8. I RO at our 22 steel plate league. You get 2 10 round mags per run. 18 targets including stop plate. If you clear all targets youhave an opportunity to shoot at a 1" dia. bonus target worth a 5 second reduction if hit. Two runs with best time recorded. Best time so far is just under 7 seconds.

We see everything under the sun in this league from a custom 2011 with Tacsol upper to GSG's. We also see lots of failures.

Assuming your pistol or conversion functions properly, there are several things you can do to ensure success.

First is ammo. You want to use ammo that goes bang every time. That leaves out almost anything Federal makes, plus some others. Second, make sure your pistol likes the ammo, even when it's a little dirty. One failure to extract and you have no hope of winning.

If you use metal mags, tune them. High Standard shooters already know this, but every metal mag I've seen benefits from tuning, with the possible exception of GSG mags. Their design is such that they always hit base down.

Make sure every mag you have is clean and drops completely out of the pistol without assistance. If a metal mag, put a base plate on it. It's amazing how quickly a Ruger or Buckmark mag goes out of tune if you drop it on the feed lips. One misfeed and your time is hopeless.

BTW, there is nothing wrong with match chambers as long as you use ammo that works in them. My Hamerli pistol will put 10 rounds completely inside the diameter of a dime at 25 meters. It has a match chamber, yet it feeds CCI Standard ammo flawlessly. I've used it in this league and it runs perfectly.

I got my son a GSG. He ran about 1k rounds of Blazer with about a 90%-ish cycle completion.

We went to a steel challenge this weekend and I bought the Federal 325 box... turned his GSG into a single shot. If anyone thinks I'm exaggerating, I have it on video. Was excruciating to watch.

Yeah. Mine doesn't like Federal ammunition either. It likes Lapua though. I guess GSGs have expensive tastes

  9. I've run more than 20 000 rounds on my original slide stop, but i use the buffers. Major loads destroy the buffers in a few thousand rounds - so i think they're doing something to protect the gun

Notice the buffers when you're shooting? I have a 2011 and when a 'gunsmith' put one in my gun I felt like there was a second recoil impulse, like a pogo stick or something.
I can't say i notice the buffer at all while shooting, but maybe I'm just an idiot [emoji3]

  11. I get my wife to stand alongside me and catch the brass as it comes out.

She enjoys being out of her handcuffs in the basement because she gets to see the sun.

By beating her for every missed case i find she's really motivated to do a good job.

And if you believe that, then i have some real estate on the moon I'd like to sell you. .....
