  1. I did a search and could not find anything, so I built my own and thought I would share here. I try to get as creative as I can with dry fire practice within the limits of my living room and hallway and wanted a miniature swinger stand for my 1/2 scale targets. I went to the hardware store and bought some simple stuff for around $7 and put it all together this afternoon. It mounts to a camera tripod, and I'm using some old shock mount washers as the weight. 1) 36"x3/4"x1/8" flat aluminum bar 1) 5/16"x4" bolt 5) 5/16" nuts 2) 1/4"x3/4" bolts and nuts 1) 1/4"x1" bolt and nut
  2. That's my plan! You can never have too many guns, right?
  3. I'm using the Blade Tech competition speed holster with Stoeger tension thumb screws, Blade Tech two piece velcro belt, and Blade Tech classic single mag pouches that I modified so that I can adjust the cant (all with tek-lok mounts). I typically carry 3 extra mags per stage, but even with only 17 rounds per mag I've never had to use that 3rd extra mag on a run-n-gun type of stage.I don't think the Witness Match is legal for IDPA due to it's weight (railed versions). For IDPA, I either use my Springfield Armory Trophy Match 1911 .45 in CDP, or my FNS-40 in SSP.
  4. I just picked up some of the H-141 bases to go with my new magwell on my 9mm Match and I'm using my factory springs and followers with them. I can load 20 rounds without any problems. 21 rounds causes the factory follower to hang on the bottom of the spacer in the mag. I'm happy with an increase of 3 rounds with the H-141 for now.
  5. I've always been a little iffy about this gun and have been really wanting to upgrade to a Limited, but after dry fire practicing with the magwell installed I am in love with it now.
  6. Thanks for all the positive comments! I just picked up a couple of H-141 bases from Jim @ ShooterReady.biz (it's convenient living in the same city as him). Unfortunately, I will need to cut a groove into the magwell to clear the rear spine on these base pads (I'll do that tonight and post pics). @ madworx - I love the stippled factory grips on the gun. Like you, I didn't care for the unmodified plastic grips, so I purchased a set of the Tanfoglio checkered walnut grips for it. They look much nicer than the plastic grips, but they aren't very grippy. The stippled factory grips feel almost as grippy as the grip tape I've put on the front strap. Very happy with them now.
  7. Yep... one mod requires another, and then another... never ends. Kinda glad we're not shooting again until August so I can get the base pad situation worked out.
  8. I think the grips turned out really good with the magwell, but I then realized that my brand new Stoeger base pads won't fit with the magwell (rookie mistake). I guess I'll need to sell them and get some extended base pads. Any recommendations on extended base pads? I'm leaning towards the Henning H141 base pads, but I'm open to other options.
  9. After the epoxy was set, I modified the factory plastic grips (previously sanded smooth and stippled with a soldering gun) to fit the angle of the magwell by under cutting them from behind rather than just cutting them off short...
  10. I cut some matching grooves on the inside of the magwell and on the outside of the frame that line up when the magwell is in place to give the epoxy a small pocket for a better hold (hopefully)...
  11. I just finished installing my new Canyon Creek magwell on my Match and thought I would share some photos. Rich shipped this thing out FAST... ordered on Friday, came in on Monday, installed on Monday night! Initial fitting and blending with my amateur gunsmithing skills (or lack of)...
  12. I'm currently using an Elite Match 9mm in USPSA Limited, and I'm loving it (I'm fairly new to action pistol competition). The gun was an impulse purchase for me originally, but I'm glad I have it now. I've stippled the factory plastic grips with a soldering iron, put grip tape on the front strap, installed a factory ambi safety and Henning's sight set for the Match. I've also installed Stoeger aluminum base pads on all the mags. The weight of the frame rail makes it a really flat shooter, and I've only got $950 in the gun with all the mods and mags. A great beginner gun for sure. The ONLY thing I wish this gun had is a mag well. I'm reluctant to get the Canyon Creek weld-on, because I don't want to have the frame re-finished, and I've read that using epoxy is not a good long-term solution.
  13. I purchased the factory walnut checkered grips for my Match, but recently resurfaced the plastic grips by grinding them smooth with a belt sander and then stippling them with a soldering iron. Turned out really good and they are very grippy (similar to the grip tape I put on the front strap). Way better feel than the walnut grips.
