  1. I have read the forums and want to do the following and looking for further advice on brands….

    Magwell- Glockworx Brass

should the trigger be changed? That's up to you. My opinion is that the trigger can be improved. Connector and spring kit is the most basic way to make a better trigger.

have the extended mags +5's -Dawson Precision or TTI

Need input for sight. Warren with front FO or front/rear FO -Those are good, I prefer Dawson Adjustables, FO Front, Serrated Black rear

    extended slide release- Not necessary

springs and connector- Glockworx or TTI

    firing pin- Jager or Glockworx

    THANKS !!!!!

  2. I'm sorry for this very newbie question. How many mags do you all use for open division? Could i get away with just two mags/mag holders both with 170mm extensions? That would be around 50 rounds. Or should i go one more? This setup will be for a Glock 17. Also, do you recommend buying 140mm extensions or 170?

  3. I have some type of foam padded case thing. It's big enough for like 3 guns and some ammo/gear. As i collect more and more gear i'm deciding i want to ditch the big gun case and go with a nice range bag and just buy sleeves for the guns. Since my case isn't big enough for everything i still have to carry a separate bag for tools, etc. I'd like to condense it down into one nice range bag that holds everything.

  4. I've been wanting to do a little project and have been wondering, will a 26 slide fit on a 19 frame that has some of the dust cover cut? I've heard the opposite works

The sub compact Glocks G26/G27/G33/G39 have the same locking block.

The compact Glocks G19/G23/G32/G38 have the same locking block.

The sub compact and compact locking blocks are not the same and slides do not interchange between sub compacts and compacts.

Do the full size frames use the same locking block as compact?

I know you can put a 19 slide on a 26 frame i'm not sure about vice versa. If you own both of these pistols take some measurements, if you cut the dust cover down i don't see why it wouldn't work

  6. Will you reload 40 or run factory ammo? I do not think that factory 40 makes major. I went with the 9-Pro for my open gun, with the carver 3 port comp. I pull the comp off for idpa, and I run it with the comp for uspsa minor and steel. I don't reload yet, saving my brass for when I will make my own 9 major rounds. It does not run flat with 9 minor. The comp does work, maybe not very efficient, but I really enjoy the way it looks and the way it runs.

    Factory 40 easily makes major.

  7. What kind of sight is it? If it's the stock front sight just pull that sucker off with pliers. If you don't want to ruin it, then ya heat. Just enough to not melt anything. If it's a fiber optic, and you have a spare rod now's probably the time to grab it.

  8. It will be going on a G17, as that's what's in my safe.

I looked at the Zev website (they get extra credit because they're local to me!) and if I were to go for one right at this second, I'd probably pick their "small" version, unless convinced otherwise. This statement may be coming out of ignorance from me never using a magwell, but having spent the past 8ish years shooting Single Stack, I'm not too concerned about missing a reload in a double stack, magwell or not. That's why I'm asking specifically about the "comfort" issue, as that intrigues me more than any increase in ease of loading. To that end, I'm guessing the "small" would do just as well in terms of comfort as the "large" because I'd think the fitment would all be on the top of the magwell... or is that foolish?

It really does all come down to hand size as far as comfort goes. We can make recommendations but "comfort" is more of a personal thing. I think all of the top models are sound, and they're all "comfortable", but people are all going to perceive them differently based on their hands and the make up of the their grip. For instance, with Zev's large brass on my 17, if i'm utilizing a high forward grip neither of my hands even touch the magwell. If i lower my support hand a bit i can get my pinky to rest on the lip of the magwell and sort of lock it in there and get a bit more leverage. It feels good. However, my father has big ol' sausage fingers and doesn't even look like he can grip the frame properly because of it. He doens't hate it, but it slightly gets in his way, and you can tell it's not as "comfortable" for him.

There are other variables involved like material and weight. When considering getting a magwell i knew i wanted to add weight to the gun. The heavy brass weighs about 8 or so ounces and gave the gun a much better feel. I would say that even if my hands don't touch the magwell when shooting, based on the extra weight it made my gun much more comfortable and enjoyable to shoot. I don't think your going to notice a drastic difference in the way they all feel because you really only have a pinky on top of it. Most of the difference is going to be the weight and mouth of the magwell. Unless you have massive gorilla hands they're probably all going to feel pretty good to you. Pick one that looks cool and let us know how it goes.

  9. Perhaps he's just "happy to see you".

    lmao!

So what causes squibs anyway? Is there some sort of a leak or something, or does the round have to be just way under powered. Forgive me, i am still new and learning.

  10. Did you mess with the ejection port at all or do you think the brass will clear just fine with that mount? I want to go with the sideways mount like you on the grounds that you're not supposed to need to lower the port for clearance. Was it hard to put the mount on?

  11. SJC, Zev, Dawson, and Carver Customs are the four i hear about most. My experience is limited, but i'll still give my input. The only complaints i'v heard about any were with the SJC cramping your strong hand a little if you have big hands. It's a huge magwell and looks like the lip arcs up a little more possibly pinching your hand. Depends whether you consider that a good or bad thing. I have a Zev magwell and with relatively small hands i feel it fits me perfect. The way it's designed i don't think it could get any more comfortable. I still have a little space for my strong hand and the way the lips curved my support hand seems to lock in their pretty tight. I would think the Dawson would be close to the same effect. I'm just taking a guess with this one, but if you have huge hands it would look like the carver customs magwell would be good because of the lower arc and more clearance. I think it mostly comes down to preference. I'm sure those four would be in the top of the Glock magwell choices and they may all suit everyone differently depending on hand size and preference, but i believe they're all quality products.

Just curious what gun is it going on? 35? I would check out Zev first. They have many, many options of material choice and weight and i think by far are the most aesthetically pleasing of the bunch.

  12. Sti customer service is good to go. I bought a used edge off another forum and it had some things that needed to be repaired. they sent me a label without question and are taking care of it for me. cant beat that!

Has the OP ever updated this thread?

Ok...gotta bump this thread instead of starting a new one.

My slide is hanging up as well after replacing the recoil master with a full length guide rod and a 12.5# spring. I took it over to a buddy's house last night to try and see what was causing the problem.

He thought it was this exact problem, however when we tried his two other guide rods with the relief cuts in them, it still binds up....we did the sharpie test and saw that thebottom of the guide rod, that faces the frame, was rubbing but couldnt figure out why or how.

The barrel link was also messed up and had a chip in it and would not rotate all the way down. The barrel also had some gouge marks from, ehat sti said, is the old recoil master design hitting against the barrel link section. I dont know if that is part of the problem or not? I've contacted sti to see what they thought and they said the same thing about the guide rod and relief marks....but obviously that is not the problem.

I've responded to their email about trying the other guide rods with the relief marks and it still binding up but have not heard back from them again yet.

    Any ideas?

Ok just to follow up in case anyone is interested....STI Sent me a shipping return label for my gun as I stated I was having the problems listed above. It took about 5 weeks for the gun to come back to me, I received it today just as I was about to walk out the door for work.

They stated that they replaced and fit a new frame to the slide, fit a new slide stop and installed the EGW full length guide rod and reverse plug that I sent with it.

The gun is very tight now and the slide moves freely with the new guide rod and spring. I didn't have time to check the barrel to see if they replaced it or not since it had dings and that bur on it but I will as soon as I get home. I will follow up later this evening but everything seems to be good to go and customer service was very easy to deal with.

Update # 2...after breaking down the gun tonight it seems they replaced the frame, safeties, grip safety etc with a new one, fit the egw full length guide rod and plug, fit a new slide stop, fit a new barrel & either gave me a new slide or reblued the one I had because there are no wear marks on it from where my holster had rubbed the top of the slide. So if there is anything that is not new its the slide only.

The gun is very tight as I previously stated and looks brand new, which it just about is. Great experience with sti!

That's a pretty sweet deal. Slide hanging up? Lets just build ya a whole new gun! lol Good stuff. I'm glad to hear STI replaced all that for ya.

  13. I found one for 690.00 but I think it may be to high. I keep hearing that OD green is a lot harder to find? I really want a OD green. Any input on where I might find one? Thanks in advance and what the going rate would be. BTW its New in Box

Check out independence firearms on gunbroker. Very reasonable prices if you pay via check or MO and they seem to always have the OD green and FDE
That's who I got the od gen 4 35 from 3 months ago, it was around 630 shipped. It was just the same price as the other black frame ones and it listed as limited edition so I picked it. How limited is it anyway? Cus I wanna do some frame work on it.

Not limited enough to prevent it from meeting my dremel
