  1. First 1k shots, my slugs were alway POA = POI within 100 yards. Hadn't shot slugs in several months, put a sling attachment on the end of the tube (not on a clamp, it goes in between the tube extension on the threads) and added a few ounces of lead shot to the stock to get a more balanced feel. Slugs are now shooting high. Threw me off at blue ridge 3 gun! I didn't get a chance to pattern beforehand, but it is a noticeable difference. Had slug mikes on half the stages! I think during the offseason I will switch from the standard 55 w/e its called to 60 or 65. Sounds like that has helped a lot of you guys!

  2. I just drilled a hole in the side of the stock and put a QD mount there. I like the location a little better, and it's easier to get the gun to rest tight and flat against your back. That said, I haven't tried using the one already there.

  3. Has anyone tried adding a little weight to the stock? Bag of sand or something else to help balance it a little better and reduce recoil?

I love how light weight it is but for those stages where there are a lot of close range arrays, I wouldn't mind trying to reduce the recoil a bit so I can get my splits faster. Also when I run my 13+1 tube, it gets really front heavy.

  4. I installed an EGW tungsten rod in an Eagle I have since sold. I shoot an Edge in USPSA and was trying to make the Eagle more muzzle-heavy like the Edge. It made a noticeable difference in the muzzle weight of the pistol, and I felt as though it made the gun shoot that much flatter. Was it real or perceived? I couldn't tell you but I did shoot the gun faster and more accurately after install. I beveled the head of the guiderod with a bench grinder and that is all that was needed to "fit" it to the gun. I used the stainless bushing it came with. The head diameter on the STI guiderod is smaller than the 1911 head, so get the STI rod so you don't have to file down the head to fit in the STI frame. It was worth the $100 to me, made the gun more fun to shoot anyway. I hadn't heard of any failing. Tungsten is more brittle than carbon steel, so it could happen I suppose.

Awesome, two good reviews along the lines of what I've actually heard. Breaking claims are hearsay so far. I'll get one after I finish up this season's majors

  5. Haha true. It's all give and take. Having a short normal dust cover, I am giving up a fair amount of weight up front compared to full length wide dust cover guys, and my splits is a part of my game I'm trying to improve, so I feel like it's worth it to add a bit up front. But after some experimentation, if my transitions feel slower then maybe it's not worth it. All personal preference. As it stands though, I feel like my gun is being driven up WAY more than some of the super nice limited guns. All else equal, it's a disadvantage. Most of the correction will need to be due to my grip, and squeezing harder with my support hand is something I'm trying to consciously work on now.

  6. I have a 5" Eagle Bushing barrel. Looking at getting a tungsten guide rod and plug. Which type do I need to get, the STI or the standard? Obviously, I have an STI, but something I read made it sound like the STI was more so just for the bull barrel. Currently using a Dawson tool-less.

Any insights? Also, I haven't seen any tungsten rods with really good reviews, yet I've had plenty of really good shooters tell me to get one. What's the deal?

  7. Ok, so I'm not going completely crazy! I wonder what Freedom will do if I can prove they are consistenly WAY off their claim of 990fps...

Won't do me any good this upcoming match, I'll probably still shoot it, and just shoot minor if I have to.

mjohn, is Precision Delta the match ammo sponsor of the TN section match? Otherwise what are you referring to? And how would I go about securing that if they are?

  8. I reload almost all of my ammo, but sometimes shoot factory remans if I don't have time. Last time I chrono'd Freedom Munitions .40 180gr RNFP I wrote down the velocity at around mid 880's. That's not making major. The website says they should be making around 990.

I am using an STI Eagle 5" with a bushing barrel.

Does anyone have any trouble with making major with this ammo? I have a major match next weekend and I don't think I'll be able to reload any before then.

  9. Matchbook implies that it contains all the other info I need, squadding matrix, map, sponsors, whatever. At least that's the way it's been at every other match I've shot.

If the zip file containing the stages is the matchbook, then just call it the stages, because that's not a matchbook.

I'm not trying to sound angry or anything, I just still haven't seen any definitive response on this, so I'm going to assume that the Zip file containing the stages is the matchbook that everyone is referring to. All the other relevant info is on the site, so I have everything I need. All is well.
