Yes I agree 100%. Nothing is, or was guaranteed. PASA created stages that made for interesting match outcomes.

I think deciding to walk away has to be one of the hardest decisions. Especially if it’s following a win.

From all I heard it was a business decision.  The sponsorships and money was in Multi-Gun.  How long it lasts?  Who knows.  Problem is age will catch up with all of us, even Jerry.

Old man time is beating me over the head, I've survived a few of the bigger hits but it's the gradual decline that's the most frustrating.

  2. JM at one point recommended a narrow serrated trigger, past thinking was narrow and smooth.

I tried Jerry's idea and didn't find it helpful, I tried both narrow and wide serrated too.  I now run narrow smooth triggers and don't see they hurt anything.

I think it actually comes down to personal preference, kind of like what color do you like on your fiber optic front sight.  It matters more that you wear a blister on the finger with practice!

  3. When loading on my 550 I never noticed anything, and I have 38 short colt brass from 2013 mixed into my used practice brass.  But I quit using my 550 for most of my loading in 2019.

I do notice that the more fired brass seems to swell, or deform?, in the case head at the extractor groove and then cause sticky insertion with moon clips.

As for the primer pocket shrinking I'd hazard that it's the very top of the pocket and now that I load on a 1050 with a primer pocket swager it's not an issue that shows up.

I guess there is a limit to our brass life!

I just this morning resprung/tuned a gun up for factory ammo.

Rem umc whitebox shoot fine, blazer primers still to hard though, 2/8 would fail to pop and would not go after repeated hits.  Like you observed, even with just 6/8 popping, the amount the oal increased was impressive... unusable as you say.

One thing I've noticed is if a primer doesn't ignite after, at most, 3 strikes they don't go at all.

You may well have a point on that one 🤣, but not me I revel in getting grungy.  I take every stain, rip or bruise as a badge of honor, I earned every one!

I didn't used to favor them because of the one or two folks on the squad who struggled to get in position and needed help getting back up. Now that I am not far from being one of those folks I favor them less probably.

Regardless, if there are people who feel that prone shooting makes the match more fun then that would matter to me. I don't know if anyone does?

In USPSA Prone should only be an option, not a requirement.  And yes I've seen many struggle with prone and kneeling.  I'm slowing down but not really struggling.

That explains a lot. I've seen a few times where shooters will try to get a bunch of guys to shoot single  stack or production even though they normally shoot other divisions. Most shooters still have a ss or production gun around. But that wouldn't happen normally with revolvers because those same shooters won't have a revolver and gear to shoot a match. You'd have to have guys who are already geared up for revolver, ICORE shooters.

I've corrupted several with loans of gear, guns and ammo too!  The Free State and the Area 3 SC had, and have, several from outside of our area.  The Free State has Revolvers from Iowa, Nebraska, Arkansas and 2 from Florida.

I've never been to Nationals but have shot quite a few Level 2s. I would guess that half or so of the level 2s have had prone positions.  Some may have a second position where you can shoot the same targets but it's usually better to shoot prone. Seems like there are fewer low ports these days. I'm surprised that with 180+ matches you've never seen prone.

I've noticed a trend of not seeing prone at matches in the last decade?  Don't know why.

Yes I turn 40 this year and try to workout at least 5 days a week. I was doing 2 a days for about a year but since then my time management has suffered after having 2 kids. I need to lock it in and get back on track myself.

I frequently shoot with a guy nearly half my age who constantly complains about “being exhausted” and having trouble focusing towards the end of a match. That’s super alarming to me and I generally blame it on poor lifestyle choices. I try and harp on him as much as I think he can tolerate or he’s going to be in bad shape by the time he gets to my age. If you can shoot once or twice a week you should be able to workout 3-4 times a week at home for 30 minutes pretty easily.

At 20 years old they haven't had the chance to be affected by bad life choices, yet.  They should still believe they're invincible.

That's really unusual. Not a big level 2. I've shot revolver but only in ICORE with 6 shot speedloaders. I'm shooting 2 level 2s in the next few months. One with 300+ shooters has 3 revo, the other with 400+ shooters has six.

There is a hearty group of revolver guys in the area, we are kind of like pushers.  And seem to attract more like minded from outside our area.  Really hoping to get in the 20's at the free state.

What level 2 or 3 match has revolver participation at 2nd or 3rd most shooters?

Area 3 steel challenge championships had 9 isr and 6 osr so 15 total revolvers, Co 15, opn 8, limited and production 5 each.

Of course the Rimfire divisions all had larger double digits.

Find it interesting that isr was more popular than osr.

  12. I personally struggle with optics at speed.  Fwiw I just like irons better.  Have a prescription that adjusts for them.

Around kc we have a growing interest in revolvers, with irons, the level 2 and 3 here have isr or revolver coming in at 2nd or 3rd most populated divisions.

But the future will be dots, that's for sure.  I will be ok with it, if it's just not mandated.

  13. Well the match just finished, Practice Score Results are here https://practiscore.com/results/html/1f78de0f-7cbf-41fc-af83-a3d84165365c.  We had 9 ISR and 6 OSR a pretty good turnout, last year we had 6 in each.

This year Jess Christensen came up from Arkansas and put a whooping on us locals.  He beat last years ISR and OSR winners by over 10% each.

    Congratulations Jess!

Hope to see everyone again next year.

  14. Most likely a previous owner had trimmed and squared the crane barrel and added shims that got lost at some point.

One theory is that this method results in a smoother cylinder rotation.

Interesting. If I could secure a steel washer to the bottom of my speed loader, I wonder if a magnetic moon clip holder would work? I just had a cylinder cut for moon clips, and if I could run moon clips and speed loaders on the same device, that would simplify logistics.

In comp iii they run a screw up the middle underneath.  Might not work with russians though.

I have no issues loading coated 358 coated bullets into 38 short colt using a regular dillon 9mm powder funnel.
Have also loaded all the other things u listed with regular die and dillon funnel/ flare thing..
SO what is or what does a M die do ?

With a progressive i.e. 1050 or 650/750 the uniquetek helps with the bullet flopping out of the case on rotating.  Under size sizing die gives the tightest fit, uniquetek powder tube for.358 bullets then opens the mouth just a bit below the flare allowing the bullet to ride round the progressive without falling out.  Yet doesn't affect the tightness below it.  It's not an issue with my 550.

Thanks All, late last night I started working backwards...pulled the hammer and ext FP out, the FP is new and the hole is free and clear. Working up from the bottom of the hammer there looked to be nothing out of sorts. Then I saw a shiny rub mark just below the top radius on the right side of the hammer. I reassembled everything and could see that the hammer/frame gap on the right side was a lot smaller than the left side. As the gun heated up during a good session yesterday the issue came up later on and with this small of a gap I can see hammer travel impingement being an issue here.

Is the solution as simple as removing small amounts from the hammer or is it a hammer shim kind of a thing? This is a new factory gun so there's no wear/slop that should be taken up by a shim. There doesn't seem to be any burrs on the frame so I'm not going to touch that.

NO, Ron Power sells shims for just that issue.  Go to his website or Midway and get a pack.
