  1. Agreed. I have seen no accuracy difference between QUALITY 1-7 and 1-8 twist barrels and 55s. Shoot 50gr Varmint Grenades thru a 1-7 though, and half of the bullets don't make it past 25 yards. Just a trail of gray smoke and fragments on the target board. Something about 370,000 rpm (3600ft/sec x 60sec/min x 12in/ft divided by 7in/ turn=370,285 !!!) , and .005 jackets just don't stay together! Drop that velocity to 3100 with a 55, and rpm is ONLY 318,857.

  2. Just wondering- Can anyone who has a shotgun that DID fit the Nordic nut confirm if their original nut looked the same externally? I just want to know if their are any visual cues that we can use to ID the non-standard parts. This photo is the factory nut from one of the shotguns that did NOT fit the Nova-type nut. If yours fit a Nova, please post a pic for comparison. I am waiting for my distributor to send me a Benelli Nova Shotgun so I can compare the actual threads on the two shotguns side-by-side. trying to help people know what they need to order without playing the "Guess, and return if it don't fit" game. Thanks!

  3. Here is what I found out. Mossberg 930 is same width as the Stoeger, so I ordered an Arredondo speedloader chute to modify to fit. As it turns out, extreme loading port mods ( I duplicated P E Kelley's) prevent the use of the chute. The shells pop out of the loader tubes before they are far enough into the receiver to be properly contained, and flip out of the low-cut side. I am going to have to buy another M3000 before I can finish prototyping the mods. Bummer, time to buy another gun! On the plus side, Kelley's design works great for weak-hand load-4, and strong hand duo-load and quad-load techniques.

  4. Picked up my shotgun today. Put a Nordic +6 on my 26" M3000 version, the nut screwed right on. Serial number is 13557XX if that helps narrow down when things changed.

Next step is to hog out the loading port and then practice, practice, and practice some more so I'm ready for this year's matches.

Mine is in the 1,225,xxx range and it didn't fit. Hopefully we can find a pattern to the misfits! I will start polling the customers that buy our specific Stoeger nuts for ser. number ranges, and see what we come up with.

  5. Not particularly fond of the looks of the 90 degree either. But, I don't like the looks of a big ol' c-more on top of any pistol. However, I am tired of hunting for the dot in the tiny screen of my Burris, and I fondled just about every model c-more had mounted on the toy guns in their SHOT booth. The low axis 90deg mount was the most natural for me to see the dot in the middle without hunting for it. I don't really care what my gun looks like as long as it works to my satisfaction, and my eyes are getting to the point where irons are harder to utilize.

  6. Hey guys-

Just wanting to get an idea who has the best deal on the c-more. Hopefully a vendor on the forum, if possible. Also, what dot size are you all running? I am converting from a Burris FF3, as I lose the dot in bright sunlight, and I want the bigger window and lower axis of the c-more in a 90deg mount. Thoughts?

  7. We had 2 different JMs at our local matches show up with the same problem, which was shells hanging up in the mag tube. One guy sent his back to Mossberg, and I think it was only gone 9 days total. Bummer was the $60 it cost him to ship it back, by the time he properly insured it. The other guy polished the step between the extension and the mag tube, and solved his own problem. I talked to one of the Mossberg tech reps at SHOT, and he said there have been some fitment issues with the Nordic extensions they use on the JMs, and they have just sent out replacement parts to some customers to keep them from having to ship the whole gun back. Seemed like they have seen a few with the same problem. At least they have ID'd the problem and are trying to make it right. As far as their customer service goes, I always had decent experience with them back when I did general gunsmithing, and they replaced lots of parts for me under warranty. Can't tell you how many rusty, abused pump guns got new ejectors in my shop!

  8. UPDATE ON EXTENSION TUBE NUTS- First production batch is ready to go! Nordic MXT components should be here at the end of this week. I will be stocking +5s thru +9s. Specific info will be on vendor page. I will post pictures of the new nut on a new thread later today, so you can see what it looks like. More info to come!

  9. There are much better comps for the game than the PWS. Even the previously mentioned, $45 Miculek is still toward the top of the heap of options. Lots of the comps look cool, but few work better than the Titan, Rolling Thunder, or JP "Cooley" comp...

Your single-stage 3lb Timney trigger should serve you well.

You may also consider removing the extra rail sections on the front of your handguard unless you actually need/use them.

    I already have the PWS

I already have an 8,000lb Excursion. If I wanted to get into Autocross racing, I don't think I would use it just because I already have it. The Miculek is a great value, 90%+ of the performance of anything out there at any price, and probably less money than many people spend on coffee every month. Not saying you CAN'T use the PWS, but once you learn to shoot controlled pairs at speed, the PWS will cost you seconds.
  10. So you're saying if I clip the spring some it should hold 12?

Gotta be careful not to take too much spring off or the follower won't be able to launch the last shell past the shell catch, and the carrier won't lift the last shell. It is a balancing act, and if you go too far you buy a new spring. If in doubt, leave it 6" longer than the tube when relaxed, and test thoroughly, cutting off one coil at a time. Generally at +6 inches unless the extra shell is within a quarter inch of fitting in the tube, it will malfunction before you can cut enough spring to make it fit.
  11. I used Nordic's +9 (22.5in long), which allows me 13 2-3/4 shells in the tube. Free length of the spring, and follower type can affect capacity too. 5 2-3/4 shells physically fit in the factory mag tube, but only 4 3" mags. the +5 (11.6in) is about flush on a 24" barrel, and a +6 (14in) for a 26" barrel. I run a +9 in open class, and it is 8.5 inches beyond my 26" barrel. However with a ghost load I start stages with 15 in the gun before I go to my speed-load tubes, so it is worth scrubbing the carbon off the mag-tube! It also helps that I am 6'3", so I don't have trouble getting it over the edge of the dump barrels.

  12. If you want a durable one, get a steel version:

    http://www.brownells.com/rifle-parts/bolt-parts/bolt-charging-handles/ar15-m16-steel-charging-handle-prod55108.aspx

I have the DPMS version and it is noticeably heavier than an aluminum one. Personally I bring a spare charging handle and a spare bolt with me to big matches. Those two items are what I've broken in the past.

hahahahaha! I was just trying to be funny and it took me so long to write it it seemed like a reply to the previous post! No offense intended!

  13. ALL the tommy tacticals are buying the steel one from DPMS. :roflol:You can shoot it with your Spikes Tactical 38mm picatinny mount "Flare Launcher" and it won't damage it.

Kidding aside, the walls on a charging handle are quite thin, and any of them can bend. Not a common thing, but happens enough to see one at any 200 man match. Usually happens during a chamber clear while prone. Buy one you like, and it probably won't happen again in your lifetime. Unless you are in the lead at the Ironman, or Superstition, in which case it will assuredly tie up your rifle. :surprise:

  14. We had 3 shooters DQ for not-engaged safeties in one event last fall. I guess I shoulda given them the full demo like you did! Really though, I know VERY few ROs who haven't DQ'd at some point. I would rather do it in front of noobs than in front of a bunch of sponsored shooters at a big event that all know me. You NEVER live that down! Or, so I've heard....

  15. I clean my shotgun barrel when I can see streaks of plastic in the bore, and chunks of crap blow out of my ports when I fire. :surprise: Then I use solvent and steel wool wrapped on a brush with a cordless drill. I will admit this is borderline abuse, but with a chrome bore inertia gun, why worry? You will have to worry about the keeping the pistons from carboning up more so than the barrel, but Versas are pretty low maintenance as far as that goes. I shoot enough that if I cleaned every gun every time I shot, I wouldn't have time left for work! Your shotgun will tell you what its needs are when it gets cranky

Steel wool, cordless drills...these are NOT words to be associated with regular bore cleaning!

In case you missed the part about chunks coming out of my ports, I was insinuating that I DON'T regularly clean my bore! I generally end up running about 1,000+ rounds through it between cleanings, so it needs a MAJOR scrubbing at that point. I also mentioned that this is borderline abuse, and that it has a chrome plated bore. With a Versamax, cleaning the carbon off the pistons at regular intervals is the biggest thing. Oil the bolt and other parts well, but just a light wipe on the piston surfaces is all the oil it wants there. Over-oiling there makes a sticky, gummy mess once it gets fouling mixed with it. Also, many gun oils turn gummy at low temps (rem-oil probably the worst.) CLP is what I use when it is cold, though I keep hearing that frog-lube works too.
