  1. When the one minute clock expires, do you issue a procedural for taking too long?  What penalty is that?  Do you issue a warning at the 50 second mark to let them know they are running out of time?

if they do get a penalty for exceeding the time limit to Make Ready. Do they get restarted with another make ready command and therefore get another full minute to get ready?

Just curious how this would all play out in a real match?  I’ve never been to a big match, but at our small local ones, I’d guess I would just tell the shooter to hurry his ass up the next time I tell him to make ready or there will be a penalty. But, it’s never happened as I normally give them as much time as they need and never felt like a shooter was taking “too long”.

I still say we need to freeze equipment changes for at least two years. We've had enough changes recently, things need to stabilize and then we can see if changes NEED to be made.

This is not a bad idea. It takes time to evaluate the current set of rules.

  3. Ok, so I'm way too impatient to give the frame weight a full workout.  I bought a light, now I need a holster.  @tt350z, those are nice options, I like the versatility of the Phlster since I'm a lefty, and if it doesn't work out for me, it would be much easier to find someone who could use it.

I recently picked up a Comp-Tac International for my G48 and it seems like a very well made holster.  I've been using their mag holders for years, but this was my first holster from them.

Does anyone have any input about the Comp-Tac International holster with weapon light???

    Thanks.

  4. Ok, so now I “need” a WML, and went and bought a Streamlight TLR-1/HL light that’s actually pretty cool. It’s almost too nice to beat up in USPSA matches. I’ll probably move it to my house Gun instead.

Who makes the closest knock-off of the TLR1/HL that is dimensionally accurate so it will work in my holster?  Ideally looking for something in the $25-$50 range. I don’t really care how well it works, so long as it meets the Carry Optics definition of “functional”.

    Thanks.

  5. Chrono your load in the gun, then go online and find a site that will plot the trajectory of your bullet, and play around with different zero distances until you get a trajectory that keeps your bullet +/- 1/2” to 3/4” through the entire range of distances you will ever have to shoot at. Then, you will be confident that your dot will be on target regardless of the distance you have to shoot.

How are 2011 10 round 40 S&W magazines constructed to limit the capacity to 10 rounds? Are they full length magazines just narrowed or are they shortened internally? Do they use full length springs or shortened springs? Any other issues of which I should be aware with the 10 round hi-cap magazines?

    Thanks for the help.

Better jump on those 10 rounders while you can. Soon, all the RI shooters will be buying them like crazy and you won’t be able to find any anywhere. Conversely, they will be offering great deals on their hi-caps…

Not a good time to be a RI gun owner.

  7. Thanks for the inputs.  I think I'm going to try mounting my ToniSystems 4.5 oz frame weight and give it another try before I start blowing money on lights and holsters.  I'm pretty sure I gave the frame weight a decent workout last year and decided it wasn't for me, but maybe this time will be different???

  8. For all of you guys putting lights on your Carry Optic Glocks, what holsters are you using.

    I've always been a Blade-tech guy, but I didn't even see an option for a Gen5 G17/34 with a light.

Also, will a holster for a G34 with light also work for a G17 with the same light?  I tend to always order the G34 holster since I switch back and forth between the 17 and 34 quite regularly.

    Thanks.

Personally I will not switch back even if your proposal gets adopted.  What drew me to CO was the use of an optic on a production type pistol, not the higher magazine capacity.

I switched from Production, which I loved, to CO due to failing eyesight. Going back isn’t really a choice for me either, but when I had to decide if I wanted to play in CO or Open, it wasn’t a financial decision, it was because I liked shooting my production Glock, and milling it for a red dot was a very small change. I would have been fine with a 10 round limit, but after a couple of matches, I must admit I like going with the higher capacity mags.

    1. Bump production mag capacity to the same as CO, i.e. 141 mm. So, one mag rule for both "production gun" divisions.

    2. Bump limited mag capacity to the same as open, i.e. 170 mm. So, one mag rule for both "race gun" divisions.

With that the only specific capacity divisions left will be the classic ones, which I think should be left alone for special flavor.

That’s probably one of the most reasonable suggestions I’ve heard so far.

It really is not the same thing,  Shooting trap and sporting clays there is only a hit  or a miss. No scoring rings. No points down for shooting Minor.

lol, spoken like a true trap shooter, while trying to convince the wife that she needs to hang on to her old car a few more years because you really need that new shotgun…

Don’t take that personally, I’m just having fun.  :)

I think you’d have better luck with my standard line “but honey, it’s for the kids…”. Although in this case I doubt even that would work.

But, on a similar but unrelated note, I did just order a trap shotgun, but only spent $2k. I started out by making sure she saw me shopping for the $8-$16k shotguns, so when I settled on the “cheap” one it blew through the acquisition phase with ease.

After hearing shotguns going to well over $20,000 I do not feel as bad spending what I did for at RIA VR80 and having work done to it.

I think that $20k mark is practically entry level pricing for a "nice" gun...

I was just wondering why, anybody was Spend all the money it take to build a nice open class gun. that Just shoots minor class?

I understand your question, but money is a relative term. What’s “a lot” to some people is chump change to others. A CZ Checkmate looks like a nice “affordable” Open gun that would be a lot of fun to shoot.  I remember that STI SteelMaster was also reasonably priced. The local folks here that shoot them all shoot Minor in USPSA, but they are mostly used for knockdown steel, and steel challenge.

Personally, I’m a Glock Carry Optics kind of guy, because even those “reasonably” priced guns are a bit on the steep side for me, and don’t fit my hands as well as a Glock. But, to each his own.

Now, what about all those guys spending totally insane prices for a shotgun just to break a few clays???

Mark7 is offering through the end of the month, free bullet sense and decap sense.

well that is definitely a score. That deal wasn’t available when I bought mine, or at least I didn’t see it. In reality, the ONLY reason that deal is being offered is because I already bought my auto drive.

That’s just the way my luck rolls, Mark7 was clearly waiting for me to buy my press before offering that deal. So anyone that gets to take advantage of it has me to thank.

  15. For minor PF, I’ve never had any issues with stock barrels in Gen3, 4, or 5. They have all been plenty more accurate than me. I guess that doesn’t say much about my ability as a shooter if I can’t even outshoot my Gen3 Glocks…

Is that the captured or uncaptured spring from the Glockstore?

I ask because I got the uncaptured and both 13 & 15 pound springs. Neither will go fully into battery with any ammo I've been able to test. The GS captured factory weight has no problem at all with any full power ammo or my full power ammo. But will not cycle my ~135 PF 125grn ammo.

Interesting, I just took advantage of Carvers Memorial Day sale to pick up 2 of his thick tungsten uncaptured guide rods, for a 17 and 34. Of course, now I’ll have to switch from flat ISMI to the Wolff coiled recoil springs. I went with a 13 and 15 to test. I have the 13lb spring in my 17 now and hope to shoot it later today. The trigger is a Johnny Glock setup with a 4lb striker spring. I abandoned the Timney altogether and will run the Apex or Johnny Glock from now on. Hopefully it will work fine, the gun is very dirty, but I consider that part of the testing process. If it won’t run in a dirty gun, then it’s not for me.

Techwear has the best jersey IMO… but since they were sold, their communication SUCKS and they never seem to hit the quoted lead times.

    When did they get sold?

    who bought them?
