I wonder why clubs don’t shoot that stage?

cconnection - Are those Steelmasters pre-set for low pf loads in the 110 to 120 range? Thanks!
Their designed to work with factory ammo but I’ve heard of people running Major PF through them.

@edyan I believe that rule has been changed to 3 seconds per string. I’m turning 45 at the end of the month and have a disease causing nerve issues making it unsafe for me to move on this stage. I’ve taken the entire last year off while the discussion of removing the movement discussion has gone on. It isn’t going anywhere so now your a participant in Steel Challenge as well. I’ve decided not to renew my USPSA membership until I can safely move through this stage.

I’ve been told for steel challenge, open gun, that fast burning powders and light bullets were key. I’ve also been told heavier bullets with slower powders to work the comp. what’s your opinion? Your go to reload?

Not really. At Akai every team guys get to shoot what he wants. In all honesty I don't know anyone that is forced to shoot a particular configuration. Thye may have to shoot from their builders catalog but beyond that...
This is video filmed yesterday of my 4" commander length gun with titanium comp and 177PF ammo. The new shorties are as flat and many cases flatter than full sized guns. That is why they are growing in popularity . They aren't "soft shooting" by any means. They really hit your hand hard but they pay off in spades with flat trackability and quick handling.
I will ask Shay later, but I would be willing to bet 95% or better of the open guns he is building are mid and shorts.
Is this running a 4” recoil system as well or was this a 5” cut down?

I’m just curious if this is a USPSA open gun or a Steel Challenge, minor PF style gun?

I want to be like Max, BJ, and Jessie who all shoot Single Stack Open guns.
Don’t we all, lol

I’ve shot both. I’m currently in a McLearn Custom 2011. I was just curious what everyone else’s opinions were.

Welp! Tons of reasons why. First one to mind is handsize. Then weight preference
And which do you shoot? I’m just trying to get a conversation started.

1911 vs 2011 for Steel Challenge
Your opinions and why? Go!

This would be for steel challenge.

I hadn’t read this and misunderstood what you were asking. My apologies.

This may be in response to the ongoing conversation about handicap/disabled individuals choosing to shoot the course of fire from the center box only for obvious reasons. Time assessments have been discussed at great lengths. I guess the USPSA has decided to drop 3 added seconds on those unable to transition safely.

Ah yes. That’s a bit different than Single Stack. The senior world champion uses one that be built himself at Pace Setting Design. It works well for him. . The short slide allows it to cycle faster. He custom builds for other too. If you’d like his contact info, PM me. (He also built my RFPO and Single Stack.)
Thanks!

Yes, less then 5” and I should have stated an “Open Division” gun

Has anyone owned, built or seen a single stack shorty?

Seems as more and more the matches are highly populated by rimfire shooters. Not that this is a bad thing at all but for me, and my personal health issues, rimfire would be a much easier, and less expensive, way to compete. Specialized open race guns for steel challenge are expensive.

As open major guns change I can see the theory behind them trickling down to steel gun builds. Long dust covers, shorty slides and aluminum or titanium comps. Putting more weight in the frame and grip and less in the slide will lower the center of gravity.
