  1. Got my P226R(E2) 9mm wolff recoil and hammer springs today. I was surprised to see the wolff springs are a bit longer than the OEM spring https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/30676/photo%202.JPG When in the gun it seems too long as well, but what do I know. Here's the spring installed with hammer uncocked https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/30676/photo%201.JPG I do notice a slight improvement in DA/SA pull effort. I'm hitting the range tomorrow so will know better once some rounds go through it. I've been told on the E2 guns like mine, switching to non-E2 grips will give room to replace the hammer spring strut and plastic base with the prior gen setup which improves DA pull as well.

  3. If you do change to standard grips you will need a new decocking lever, main spring base and strut. In return you should have a better DA trigger pull. You can change to standard grips and just change the decocking lever if you just want to try different grips. Then change out the strut and base later to improve the trigger. Bummer. What changed with the decocking lever from prior to current gen? During USPSA comp and practicing I occasionally don't get slide lock back as it is due to decocking lever placement and my thumb placement

  5. Thanks blaster113. So you're not feeling like factory loads are slamming things around too hard with the 12lb'er eh? I'm still waiting for my spring sets to arrive so I can start testing.
  6. Ordered up the hammer spring pak and variable recoil pak from Wolff. Will be interesting to see the difference they make.
  7. Had to find a youtube vid to figure out how to remove these E2 grips (eyeroll). Mine looks like the bottom in this image http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4027/4339538223_efa6e50436_b.jpg So looks like I need the hammer spring for the plastic base.
  8. I assume those of you with 9mm 226's are using the variable rate wolff recoil spring since the conventional spring listed only goes down to 14lbs whereas the stock spring is 15lbs. Variable rate spring goes from 10-14lbs on the reduced power side. I've got a stock 226R and just getting into USPSA (2 matches so far). Practice ammo is whatever I can find, but match ammo is Remington 'Match Grade' 147 FMJ w/ 6gr AA#7 (stuff is dirty!!! ... switching to HS6 with next reloading batch). I'll pick up the 17lb main spring (once I figure out if I have a plastic base or not), but wanted to double check conventional vs variable recoil spring.
  9. Is this event open to folks relatively new to the sport? I'm observing my 1st USPSA event this Sunday in Niles, MI (I live in South Bend, IN area) and plan to shoot a USPSA and an IDPA event early next month ... well, that's assuming I can find enough 9mm ammo :-( Didn't know if championships had special requirements or if being new I'd just slow things down for other contestants.
  10. Thanks for the info in this thread. The night sights on my P226 have been driving me a little crazy with how low it shoots at least with 115gr ammo (all I can find in stock in the area). I also don't seem to be able to focus on the front like I want. Now to see if anyone local has a sight tool
  11. Thanks for the welcome guys. Jack - I wasn't able to focus on the front sight like I wanted to. I'd never shot with night sights before so like you said I prob just need to give it a little more time. The gun shoots really low too ... I'm not used to "combat" sighting. I was shooting the local range's reloads and didn't ask the bullet weight so maybe it was a pretty light FMJ and thus added to the low impact point. So much to learn and experiment with :-) I've contacted the nearest club that does IDPA and USPSA (http://borcc.org/) to inquire about spectating and they said no problem and bring my sig and ammo cause I'll probably want to join them :-)
  12. After shooting my Dad's guns occasionally for 30+ years I finally got MY 1st handgun last week :-) CPO P226 w/ siglite sights. Best I can figure it's at most 2 years old. My Dad would be proud of this grouping :-) - jpowell's posterous I've been reading through the forum posts and decided to finally create an account and say howdy. Hope to check out some competition events in the Michiana area. Looking like a new front sight will be my 1st "mod"? I'd never shot night sights and thought they would be fun, but so far I'm not impressed with them at the range, especially the front. Is that just me needing to get used to them or is that a general concensus? I see lots of mentions of dawson fiber optic front and warren rear. If I can get to an event I'm hoping I can ask/see what others are using. This is an amazing forum ... I've gained a TON just from the Beginners section alone!
