Does the practice gun pull weight not get noticeably lighter than the match gun with all the extra rounds?

Polished & tuned from the get go you should not notice change except from the hammer spring eventually getting weaker, which means you need to change it regardless.

An off the shelf unmodified gun, yes, shooting it is effectively doing what is done by polishing & tuning.

  2. Always wanted a 1911 in 40 , no sane reason why.

Looks like Tripp makes a USPSA SS box legal 10 round 40 mag. Would like to be able to use that mag so I can shoot either major or minor.

Anybody have experience with using that mag loaded to 10 ? Specifically, any issues with seating or ftf's or any pain in the butt things like that?

  3. For what it is worth. I think I have spent too much focus on getting the mag in the gun and too little focus on getting my butt hurried over to the next shooting position.

Watching GM production gun folks seems to support this idea, not that they can't do crazy fast standing reloads at need.

Disclaimer is that I do not care much about classifiers.

Of you guys who have a match and practice gun, do you send off both guns and get the same package? Or, do you run the practice gun a little heavier?

I tend to have both guns the same, but it is something easy and cheap to play with. Buy a few different weight hammer springs (about $8.00 each I believe) and watch the excellent MemphisMechanic videos on assembly & disassembly.

  5. I have several friends that do not know how to do a full tear down of their guns and would think of it as a   professional gunsmith activity. I do it once per year (10,000 rounds + -) but I have no evidence that is has ever been beneficial except as a feel good thing.

Else + - 1000 rounds just for basic top end clean & lube but sometimes just lube at 1000 and clean at 2-3K.

Which timer?  And how do we know it is correct , the one shot with a .13 split looks suspicious (like maybe the timer got bumped or a shot was picked up from another stage) when all the other splits were .10-.15 slower?  Unless the .13 shot was an AD and you should have been DQed...

Do I need to save for the Les Baer 40 I always wanted or just give up on the notion and be practical?

(I.e. nothing is going to change with timers so might as well think about fun stuff).

Yes - that's glancing at the timer.  Did it over and over today at a local. ?

Ran some shooters at a couple matches this weekend and played with some ideas from this thread.

    For what it is worth.

Getting every shot with a quiet pcc gun just ain't gonna happen on some stages, and if you are worried about trying to get every shot then you are taking focus away from more important considerations. Last shot, sure.

I'm better off holding the timer near the shooter while he is shooting and then pulling it away immediatly and glancing at it after the last shot. Glancing at the timer during the course of fire causes too much distraction from shooter safety & foot faults & r.o. traps & range equipment failure & why in the hell is the idiot with the camera crowding us & etc. Sarge & teros135 can do all at once so maybe it is a learned skill.

Sometimes stacked or close pasters make a call difficult and looking on the back side can be of some possible help.  Situational and rare occasion.

    Is it legal?

I had it in my head that you were only allowed to consider the "visible scoring area", but can not find that in the book now that I'm looking for it.

  9. For concealed carry I suspect the slight additional slide length of your limited pro would be easier to live with than the more bulky full length dust cover of the S1. Weight is going to be about the same. If you are big and tough enough to pack either cc then you probably do not need self protection in the first place :) .

I have only had it since June and meticulously clean it after every match.

Off topic, but other than making sure the slide to frame sliding surfaces didn't need oil I would clean CZ's every 1000 rounds or so and not get meticulous about it more than once a year (12,000 rounds ish).

It's not nearly as complicated as a CZ, mostly because the safety and sear cage assembly are WAY easier to deal with.

    CZ's are easier for me.

The sear cage requires a close fitting slave pin (an extra sear pin is perfect) and a bit of patience but you only touch that once in the life of the gun. The safeties I think you just get used to messing with.

With Tanfo's I run into weird dimension tolerance problems on some guns which can make you crazy, not usually but often enough.

Owensboro rifle and pistol club - Multi gun next Friday and Saturday

Lexington club - lots of stuff too far away for me to keep up with.

Didn't look honery to me in the vid. I would have been upset with me as an r.o. instead of at you.

I would quickly correct any RO that feels the need to place their hand on my shoulder or any other part of my body.  Why think that's ok?

I hate it when they pat your butt after they say make ready.

you shouldn’t pick up mags until ulsc and stage is finished.

At locals I also try to prevent having a meandering herd of anxious pasters, oblivious practiscore punchers and the camera guy heading downrange.  I'm not as worried about giving away a reshoot due to interference as I am about the occasional shooter who dashes uprange for a mag or a mental error resulting in a real safety problem.

  15. Are their any Tanfo's that don't look like butt if you check them real close?

I like shooting the guns so I'm not a hater of any sort, it just seems like finish and doing things like making 2 frames to the same dimensions is just not their thing.

Honestly take the plunge to the 1050.  It comes with the casefeeder and makes it extremely easy to make a ton of rounds.  That way when you decide to shoot even more rounds per month you'll already be set up.  Find a used one if funds are tight but yeah take it from someone who upgraded from a 550B to a 1050.  DO IT!  It is awesome!

When I looked at pricing I could not justify getting a 650 & then adding a case feeder, a 1050 was just not that much more. Both are great but it is in my will to be buried with my 1050, just in case.

It is worth selling a gun to get a Mr. Bullet feeder. When I load now my left hand is on the case feeder stabilizing both me and the press, my eye is on the powder charge in the case under the bullet dropper, the only thing that moves is my right arm and I'm focused on just a smooth and machine consistency like stroke.

  17. If you shoot for fun limited minor is a great idea, cheaper ammo, higher capacity mags, less recoil. If I was going to do that I'd probably get a CZ TS  or TSO, no good reason just personal preference, there are many new and used guns that would suit nicely at price points ranging from happy wife to hostile divorce.

If you are anxious to get the best score you can in USPSA, see other posts.

I agree that talent & effort is way more important than the tool: but how do you know that he wouldn’t do even better with a different platform?

Call me cynical but maybe he shoots the Glock because they can afford to pay the most as a sponsor that sells millions of guns a year. I’d do the same thing if I were in his shoes.

Elite (generational) talents like Jordan, Brady, Vogel, Phelps can probably win using inferior equipment. It doesn’t mean better gear can’t help us mere mortals on the margin .... or at least offer a lot of enjoyment :)

No disagreement, the next question is which is better. Are you personally better off with a 2011 for the added weight and recoil control or a Glock for the reduced weight and quicker handling? Seems like some of this stuff is sort of a fad rather than a known quantity.

But, shooting whatever you like best makes a great deal of sense to me. :)
