I've seen #4 over and over - easiest one to solve , too.     :)

Two years ago (I think, it might have been three, level 2 match) the stage after the one I was working was a Virginia count stage. Troy McManus didn't follow the stage procedure correctly, for the next 10 minutes or so Troy and Mike Foley and the RM politely discussed how many penalties should be accessed.

My learning was that situations are not always clear cut, if there is any confusion then get on the radio & let the RM keep you out of trouble.

And I’d get new mags every year. Check CDNN for mags - they typically run some good deals for the large frame tanfo mags. I replace everything when they’re on sale so I’m not worried about playing with a hammer and feed lips.

Not being snarky, but loading 17 round mags to only 10 rounds (12 rounds for practice sessions) and dropping them on hard surfaces an uncounted number of times never causes me any reliability issues.

I've never changed a spring or follower in a 9mm mag large frame or small frame and never replaced a mag for reliability issues. Some of them do let a round slip when I drop them with bullets in them but they still work fine in the gun.

That is strictly speaking CZ and Tanfo though, and I've torture tested the small frame mags a lot more than the large frame, maybe I will eventually start to see issues with the large frames. When I shot 2011's I had issues if I did not keep an eye on dimensions.

Hate to talk about reliability, can remember one FTF over the course of this year, practice and match and cheap range brass, and that problem was self induced.

I think that pretty well settles it, unless I come across an inheritance I didn’t know about in the next 6 months Mr Wilson is gong to be getting a call. :)

Something I think will be useful. If I remember right it seems like Wilson guarantees 50 yard 2" groups, and I strongly suspect they will give you the ammo specs to get there.

It would be nice to have one gun that you knew was extremely accurate, it gives you a starting place when measuring your shooting performance and also when developing reloads. I don't think you need to pay for that much accuracy and the factory testing that was done to verify it with every gun, but it would be nice to have a stake in the ground.

@IHAVEGAS The Level10 spring is much longer and stronger than the revised factory one, and the cup is twice as long as well. It nearly contacts the bracket at the base of the press which stops your downstroke. Their spring is much thicker, longer, and only compresses half as far to avoid over-working it.

The effort required to drive the handle down didn’t increase noticeably, but upward “self return” effort sure did. Highly recommend.

Good info, right now (only 5,000 rounds on spring + - ) I am in the it works so do not fix it mode, will try the L10 when this spring stops bringing up the handle with enough force to suit me.

  5. Once I got the mbf working perfectly, I should have marked how everything was set or taken pictures with my cell phone.

Had a couple head scratchers on day one & then 0 issues for 5,000 rounds or so at which point things had loosened and I basically started set up from scratch.

147 grain 9mm rn seem like they were made for the mbf , don't think I have ever had one flip when set up was correct.

Mine shot .358 coated bullets into an inch at 25yds from a rest.

    .355's into a 3" group

    FWIW

Same with mine. Loves the .358 and hates the .355.

    YMMV

You mind letting me know which bullet you are having good luck with, how much of a problem leading is and if you have to do anything special in terms of brass selection/resizing/roll crimping?

Would like to try again & figure out something that works well for my gun. Montana Gold 147's will group decent (3" 25 yard is about right) and not lead up but I would rather not be shooting something that pricey and would like groups to be better

  7. WalMart had them at under $9.00 a box tax included, figured good enough for practice and I could use the once fired brass.

The bullet walks out of the brass in my 929 bad enough that I won't shoot any more of them in that gun, no big deal for me they will be shot in my production gun.

    For what it is worth.

Other ranges, not so friendly.    :(

This is why I'm a big fan of trying to do things by the book.

Everybody follows the same rules, no worries unless you screw up and then you have no one else to be mad at.

Only some people follow the rules, "that guy is an a-hole", "that club sucks because they don't follow the rules" , "that club sucks because they are on power trips & rules Nazis" and etc. I think you cause a lot more people a lot more grief by being "friendly".

Advanced Weapon Technologies ,  Don Fraley.  World class 1911's and accuracy to  match.

Did not see anything about warranty on his website.

The other thing, and it applies to all custom guns, what happens to the warranty when the boss retires or has health issues?

I am not implying anything bad at all about this business, just questions I ask myself before dropping a big chunk of change on anything that is custom.

There’s a guy up here that’s been rocking a cqb for 10+ years and has in the neighborhood of 100k on it and that’s the main reason I even looked into them.

Would be very interesting to see reports on 100k guns that have held up well.

It changes the economic considerations quite a bit potentially.

I think going full tilt for a SS gun is crazy.  I say this because I have used a Rock Island to beat several Wilsons, SV, STI, Baers, etc.

And it seems like Bob Vogel has beaten pretty much the entire civilized world with a basically stock Glock in production, nothing wrong with that stuff at all.

To me, when you consider all of the time, effort and money that many of us put into bullets & practice & travel & training & match fees & other equipment & targets & pasters & yada yada yada, then it does not make sense to go frugal if you really enjoy owning/shooting a higher priced gun and are able to afford it.

Many are on a tight budget, which makes sense, and many would also not get satisfaction out of a higher priced gun, which makes sense also. My depravity is I that don't care if something looks like a complete turd, but when there is an opportunity for crazy good accuracy or better reliability or anything functional then I get all oogy about it.

I do not buy green bananas or wait on guns to be built :) .

The best gun I have ever owned was a Les Baer Premier 2 in 45, after break in was over (about 300 rounds) it never missed a beat. Had to get out of major because my senior class wrists can become unhappy with it.

Given the same wishes you expressed I just bought the same gun in 9mm.

Not to say you won't be happy with the Wilson.

A small soldering iron works with less chance for collateral damage.

Heat it to melting solder temps, wipe clean with leather or thick moist cloth, press it on the screw for 60 seconds.  loosen quickly.

    Works.

Or cut the end off of an old mangled screw driver and heat that with a torch while it is sitting on the screw (assuming things will stay in place, worked well for me a month or so ago with an Allen head).

Do you really need to hurry or does the loctite basically need to time cure again?
