Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. You have to really call your shots or use a SIRT or other type of laser gun. Still not as good as the real thing because you don't get the timing for bullet travel time, which should be minimal at star distances.
  2. This may sound a little silly, not that it has stopped any of us at trying to improve, but I lay under a ceiling fan and dry fire at it. You can turn it on for a second let it speed up a bit then lay down and practice either ambushing or leading the blades. Move to different point on the floor to simulate different angles. Even with it off I think it has helped build muscle memory for that 5 point patern.
  3. Efficiency is a good way to put it, not just fast. Its hard to wrap your mind around it sometimes, just like shot cadence initially it didn't sound like it would make your transitions faster/ more efficient but the times prove it.
  4. I'm trying to decide if its worth dedicating the time to effectively try it. I don't typically shoot SC so I'm on the fence about it, but I can't seem to get my draw to first shot under 1.1 average.
  5. If its a long match be sure to have a place to rest your legs. First big match I shot a night match that ran from sun down to sun up with hour + stage times and no places to sit unless you enjoy cold wet dirt.
  6. I have been thinking about getting a Fulcrum Ultimate trigger kit for my Glock 35 limited gun, but I would like to know more about them first. I want something that has a clean break similar to a 1911, or at least as close as you can get with a Glock. I have shot some Glocks that the trigger didn't seem to have a wall it just broke once it reached a certain point. Is that what the Fulcrums are like or was it just not adjusted correctly?
  7. I think I know what video you are talking about and he is referring to shooting his revolver where he has to transfer the gun from hand to hand quickly because of his strong hand revo reload. And the powder you were talking about is corn starch, which does do a great job of keeping sweaty hands dry.
  8. Practice enough with the tape and before long you won't even need it.
  9. This is ok if you only ever shoot handgun or single optic rifle. I have the same hand/eye dominance as you. I never had a problem with it until I started shooting shotgun or co-witness optic on a rifle. When using a long gun and trying to follow a clay or transition from target to target quickly my dominate left eye would take over and line up with the front sight/front bead with the target causing me to miss way left. It took me a little while to figure out what the problem was. Once I started closing my left eye briefly to acquire the target my sights would stay lined up with my right eye until I had to transition again. Now I just place a small piece of scotch tape (not the clear) or a smudge of chap stick on my shooting glasses. The only time I notice it is when trying to tape targets. For me it has been pretty natural to switch from left to right eye, once you start shooting your body almost naturally makes the change since it is so minimal anyways. Start by doing some dry-fire drills with the tape on your glasses before going to a range. If you have a timer use it the beep seems to switch most peoples brains off anyways so it should help you forget the tape. I hope this helps, sorry this is so long. I know I’m not an expert but I know it has helped me, I almost don’t need the tape anymore
  10. Is this happening with the mag empty or loaded? I haven't had this specific problem before in my 9mm 1911, but the only mags I can get to hold 10 rounds and reload with the slide forward are Metalform. I haven't tried Dawson mags but I know Wilson ETM mags wont work and have heard even Tripp mags have the same problem. It seems like the springs are too long, or the follower is too big, in the others. The Metalforms have enough room for 10.5 where the others barely fit 10. If you look long enough I found a website that had them for $15, but I was too stupid to bookmark it and now I can't find it again. Hope this helps.
  11. I have been shooting USPSA for about two years and I mostly shoot a 1911 and recently started shooting a Gen 3 Glock 35. I notce it more with the 1911 than the Glock because of more narrow frame on the 1911. I think I have been gripping too low with my support hand and rotating my hand too far in front of the gun like what was said above. Now I just need to practice doing it the right way about a thousand times and see if I do better.
  12. Almost forgot about the other questions. 9mm works great. You start losing some points but if your competing for fun or practical purpose, shoot what ya got.
  13. I personally use a comptac holster, and have been pleased with it, but I'm sure an uncle mikes would work just the same, not a whole lot you can do differently and still be leagal. If you are only going to shoot USPSA, and might look at shooting different divisions, I would look at the CR Speed versa pouch and belt system. I don't think there is too many mags that won't fit, but I'm not sure you can use them in IDPA.
  14. It seems like my fingers on my dominant hand wrap around the grip so far that its interfering with my support hand getting a good grip. I don't think I have very big hands, maybe long fingers. Anyone else have this problem or am I doing something wrong?
  15. This sounds like something I need to try. At club matches I typically have more A's than anyone else but I don't finnish as high as them and I can't seem to break myself of it.
