  1. I called Dillon today, they suggested wiping it with alcohol... Didn't work. I'll try dish soap tomorrow. Thanks.
  2. I know what IDPAstands for, and that it's really geared for carry situations... But I'm setting up some courses and while we want it geared more for IDPA style shooting, I'm curious as to what the other styles of shooting sports like USPSA and IPSC courses are geared for. I guess what I might mean, is that whenever I see a course layed out with walls, can that same course be used for any of the three shooting sports? I know with IDPA you might have a "scenario" based course like changing a tire, or walking through Walmart, etc... If I see a cool course somewhere on YouTube or something that's not an IDPA course, could it be used for one according to the rule book, or do they have to abide by certain criteria?
  3. Did some more watching last night after I wiped the belling die with a dryer sheet. It's not coming from that. They're sticking to the bottom of the brass plunger on the powder check system. If I give it a tap with my fingers, those one or two grains drop off from it. Im reloading 9mm with Power Pistol. Any ideas? I wiped it off with a dryer sheet, I know my powder is dry, and I'm reloading in a fairly dry environment. I was almost thinking about adding some sort of small vibrator to it....
  4. I get a grain or two of powder dropping out of my powder measure every once in a while. After a while there's 30-40 grains of powder all over the shellplate and primer disk. I try to blow them it but am wondering if there is a fix for it?
  5. I've run about 800 rounds through my new XL650 and now every once in a while, my primer disk doesn't index. The cam and spring gets stuck compressed, and i have to flick it back with my finger when it does. I also am having a problem which could be related... I have lots of powder on my shell plate. Not from a jumping shellplate, I've cut the detent spring and solved that, I think it's the one grain or so falling from the powder measure every once in a while. Is it possible all this extra powder on the primer disc is causing it to bind andstick?
  6. I don't like wires, so I ran my casefeeder power cord down the tube, through the base and benchtop, and into a power strip. I also have been looking for a small flexible light for it, and found this one at WalMart for 4.97. Took it apart, painted the shade blue, made a mount that will clamp on the casefeeder tube, and also ran the wire through the tube. Here's some pics:
  7. Might as well make it a little easier on me.... Thanks Sarge.
  8. Nice setup! are those belts hanging on the walls or something else?
  9. Here's my El Cheapo target stands I built from scrap lumber. All 2X4 peices were 18-1/2" except the one loose piece that clamps in the two 1X2's. That piece I made 18". To keep the center "loose" piece from spinning all around during storage and transport, I drilled an oversized hole in the center piece, then pounded in a long nail into the loose piece that would loosely go into that hole. And that back "stabilizer bar" as I call it, is just some extra from the 8' 1X2 uprights. The 2X4 lumber I used were old 8 foot long, twisted 2X4's, but since the 2X4's needed are so short, I can use long twisted boards that I wouldn't be able to use for other projects. Because of that, the total cost for 10 of these with the uprights and hardware was 12.30! I made some nice steel ones also, but I like these ones so much more that I'm only going to make these from now on.
  10. So assuming you wanted clean primer pockets on 9mm brass, were using SS pins as tumbling media, and if you have a progressive press, like the XL650, would you remove all the other dies except for the decapper die and then quickly run all the cases through it, then tumble them in the pins, then go back to the press? And if you were using a progressive press, how long would you, or could you go, until you really should clean the pockets? When I was single stage loading, I was cleaning each pocket every time, but now with my progressive... I'm not. Is this something I should worry about, or are clean primer pockets on plinking ammo not really needed?
  11. Here's my setup with my new XL650! The bench is pretty much clutter free, but I need to organize my reloading cabinet which is the white cabinet off to the right.
  12. Nice looking walls! How are the 2X2's holding up so far? I'm planning on building some walls and was going to go with 2X4's but would rather go with a less expensive option if they'll work. Did you paint them? Do you get alot of rain?
  13. I recently got my first XL650 but opted to save the 45 bucks and not get the roller handle. Main reason why is I have a metalworking shop and can easily make one up pretty quick. I haven't seen one in person though and I wish I did to make note of the bends. It looks like there are 2 bends in it...? Is it possible someone could take a side view and front view pics with some measurements for me?
  14. It may fall and drop down. There's more dust residue from tumbling them then hopefully what's in the house. I just leave it down with bullet on case, ready for next pull That's true... good point. I'll just tell the wife to keep the house cleaner. I'm sure she'll be fine with that.
  15. Thanks for all the replies, it seems like everybody has a different way of ending, and I don't hear of any problems. So that tells me that there's probably no bad way to end it. I think when I want to stop, I'll place a bullet, leave everything else in there and pull the handle down bringing the head up then leave it, that way no dust or anything can enter the empty cases until the next session... Sound good?
  16. I just got my XL650 up and running and finished up my first hundred 9mm loads. All went great! I love this thing, its a huge step up from my single stage. I have some questions regarding ending your reloading session.... When you hear the low primer buzzer, how many primers are left? Or do you just load up another tube and keep them in there? If you do want to stop for the night and leave a full primer tube in there, do you just pull the buttons so you can dump the powder in the seating and crimping stations and save them for the next session, putting them in the powder drop station and starting from there?
  17. Hi everybocy. Another noob here. Im from Hudson and am getting my 650XL in a few weeks. Been using a Lee single stage for a while and decided to take it to the next level. Heard this place is a great place to learn a few tricks!
