  1. What will be the start time for Sat afternoon-Sun morning squads?

Going to start driving from Kansas City on Saturday morning with couple detours to pick up people on the way to Grand Island. Would like to know when the registration shuts down and time of the shooters meeting so I can determine how early I need to be on the road.

    Thx

Shooters meeting at 12:15...SHOULD be someone around tilll then for registration.

And you won't need much time to look at the stages...

  2. Is the prize table by finishing order or random? I couldnt find any information about this on the Area 3 website so I am asking here.

Think the registration has the award details...but maybe not so...

Prize table will be order of finish with class winners leading, along with several prizes (still working on this list) that will be done by random draw.

There will also be drawing for the raffle gun.

  3. Sorry Jake,

Gotta disagree with you on this one.

I've put the timer and calculator to this many times and have found VERY few times that it is not an advantage to shoot while moving.

Now I do have to qualify this by saying that my movements while not shooting are not going to be anywhere as quick as yours but even putting the timer to my son Nick's shooting, we get the same results. Nick will tell yo that he always feels faster when stopping and shooting, but that's not what the timer says.

    That said,

What I see happen most often is that taking even a single target on the move can sometimes drastically change a stage plan, and most just don't look at it.

It's true that it might be different for some people, but I'm more inclined to think there are a few things you may be neglecting.

Most of the time, even for the best shooters in the world, shooting on the move vs. planting is a wash. The situations I'm referring to are medium distance targets, poppers, and occasionally hard cover. If you have a target at arms length, by all means blast away - but if you even hit Alpha Charlie, you lose ground. Since we often see that points are outweighed by time (which is even more true for lower class shooters) shooting on the move is only a viable option when you know you will hit Alphas 10 out of 10 times. This is obviously magnified if you are shooting minor.

Throw up a short little stage and run it both ways 10 or so times, then figure the average hit factor. You'll see what I mean. It won't always bite you, but when it does you tend to lose more than you stand to gain if properly executed.

  4. What's the best major airport to fly into if coming in from the coast? Thinking about it.

    Two main choices

Fly into Omaha, then rental for 2 hour drive to Grand Island or

Fly into Denver and commuter service direct to Grand Island. Airport just minutes from range and hotels

Plan to make it worth the trip.

14 stages, 300++ don't have exact round count

  5. Think you mean you want to use the C-more railway and yes it will work, that is what I have on mine.

Of course you could drill and tap the marvel rail and use a slide ride.

    Sherwyn

I'm thinking about getting a C-More Slide ride for my Marvel 22 conversion which has the optic only rail. I think its a weaver based rail.

Has anyone tried this set up? Will it fit? I know some of my other mounts won't work with this rail.

  6. Sounds to me like initiation into the club

How many other Area Directors besides A3 were not informed of this change?

Don't have my Front Sight Mag with me, will be checking it out. This does not match any conversation I have had with John Amidon.

    Will follow up.

  7. I understand that National recently bumped the requirement for a CRO to include area or national match experience.

    What is "National" ??

It sounds like, to work as a CRO at the Nationals, they may want you to have experience ?

There's now an "experience requirement" to enroll in the CRO class, handed down by the NROI RMI group. As a Section Coordinator and former MD, I'm not certain that's a good idea -- IMHO we should be encouraging the folks who design and build stages at local (most) matches to get more education, and not make that process harder....

Think we are getting some items mixed together. There are experience requirement similar to those mentioned for completion of Range Master., but no such requirements to enter CRO program. You are required a year as an RO.

Yes we would like as many ROs and CROs as possible. And we have made the CRO course available as a correspondence course to make it easier.

  8. How long is everyone getting out of their Cmore batteries? Mine seem to be fading after a few weeks. I know for a fact that it was not left on anytime in there since I have been anal about watching it knowing that the batteries are dying quickly.

How old is your dot module? When they start to fade it shows up as short battery life...if you test the battery, you might find it really is not that weak.

Smaller dots seem to fade faster for me, I use a 6MOA and only run it a season before replacing it.

  9. I called the guy (it is/was a craig's list ad that popped up in st. louis, but was actually in KC)

no, it wasn't a typo...the guy really only wanted 3k for...so yeah it went fast.

so I went on to ask the guy how much it weighed.

    he said 20,000 pounds. blink.gif

the ad also said it had a 30 horsepower motor....hmmn...I'm guessing it wasn't wired for 220 single phase. goof.gif

I'm thinking might have been a bit much for my first lathe. roflol.gif

My guess would be it is mid 80's vintage. Actually quite a few around, have numerous of that vintage around our plant.

But be warned, there is a good chance your first breakdown will cost you more than that to repair. When ours hit a major repair, we strip it for parts and scrap metal the rest.

And yes it would definitely be 3 phase.

  10. Mostly agree with all the previous comments. Two things I can add from experience.

It is VERY easy to buy too small a compressor.

You will hate the noise in your gun room / basement.

After several other methods over the years, I now have a large compressor in my shop (outside) and ran a small 1/4" plastic line to an 3 gallon tank in my gun room. Got all the air I need for gun work and NO noise.

    Just my .02
