  1. Just getting back into USPSA after dabbling in it years ago. I'm familiar with the rules and recent changes and fairly knowledgeable on the guns and gear. I'm having trouble deciding what gun/division I should start off in though. I've narrowed it down to Production with a Glock 17 or Beretta 92 FS and/or my 1911 in single stack major. With the Glock I would probably have a TLR-1 on it since it is lightweight (relatively) and my transitions seem to be cleaner with a little heavier gun. I'd love to buy a Shadow 2 in the long run since that is what the cool kids are shooting these days. The Beretta may be closer to the Shadow in feel if that's where I'm headed in the long run. I have holsters and plenty of mags for either. Production seems like the place most people start and single stack seems to be a lot of die hard 1911 seasoned shooters. I could always give SS a shot later on after I learn the basics and gain some familiarity. I could probably swing buying a shadow 2, magazines, holsters and tune it up but it seems premature just starting off. I feel like I should shoot one of the guns I already have and earn the Shadow 2 in time.
  2. Been a member here for 10 years but as you can see my post count is low and I haven't posted in a long time. Thought it might be worthwhile to reintroduce myself. In 2011-2012, around the time I first joined the forum, I was deployed to Afghanistan. I changed stations 3 times over the next 2 1/2 years moving from Texas to South Carolina to Kansas before separating from service in 2014 and going home to Arizona. I went through the Yavapai Community College Gunsmithing course from 2014-2016. I have 3 kids heading into middle age years and a wonderful wife. I've always wanted to pursue competitive shooting and have had several false start but it never stuck due to family obligations and my own hangups. Looking to give it a go again this time with my wife and oldest son in tow. We have a great range/club local to us and we plan on shooting USPSA and ICORE.
  3. I'd like to see a formalized and expanded version of BUG as the CCP division. Minimum caliber of .380 ACP to allow guys carrying Colt Mustangs, Glock 42s or Bersas to shoot. IMO the Glock 19 is too large. Some do but most don't carry a gun that size day in and day out. IDPA walks a fine line between becoming competition and being a place to hone defensive pistol shooting skills. This category could push it closer to the latter. Dan
  4. I have the same exact issue with my Crown. The pictures posted could be of mine. Smith and Wesson is offering to take it back for repair but I am hesitant since its just as likely to return with new issues. The action is pretty poor too. Daniel
  5. Sorry. Didn't mean to rehash old info. Just getting back into shooting after some time away. Surprised to find that the 625 I bought last year for competition won't serve its purpose anymore. Read through the thread you attached. Good info there. Daniel
  6. ESR is going away in IDPA and an unknown future of SSR rules. So either IDPA is going to make everything thats not the 625 obsolete by opening SSR to 6 shot moon clips or eliminate them from competition entirely. USPSA has opened up minor power factor allowing 8 shots in revo division. This makes the typical 8 shot per position stage setup favor Minor power factor. 625s will be too slow because of standing reloads. ICORE staging is setup for 6 shot neutral but having two extra shots comes with no penalty. The 8 shots will probably be more popular. Is the 625 (a really great gun) being relegated to a handful of other "good guns" that don't have a place in competition. I'm having the same problem with finding a division suitable for a Sig P220. Daniel
  7. Looking to build and tune a few magazines for an STI Edge. Should I pay more and build 170mm mags or stick with 140mm? I plan to shoot limited. Beyond cost is one more reliable? What are you all using?
  8. Down range now... have not heard anything about this ban yet but its bound to hit us sooner or later. There are a lot of soldiers walking around with nothing but PMAGs here. Very interesting.
