    Drills

For around the house the last couple of weeks I've been practicing my shotgun reloads. Drill 1: I just pull 4 dummy rounds out of the CA Competition Works shell holders on my belt 100 times. I only count the ones that are "clean" pulls -- I have all four pulled without a snag, they are all tightly held and aligned, and I am indexing that first round between thumb and middle finger. I noticed that my troubles begin in real reloading when I don't get a "clean" pull of 4 rounds. I rotate the shells between all 5 holders on my belt including the one in the back that is rarely used so I'm developing the skill for any holder instead of just being good at the front right one. Drill 2: just a load 8 in my shotgun for par time. I only do 20 loads but I set a cadence timer and see how many I get over or under the par time. Once I get 100% at one time I knock off a second. I'm remarkably faster at picking them up off the ground because I don't want a dropped shell to mess up my par percentages! I do Drill 1 then Drill 2. I think these will help my shotgun reload times, which should help overall. Sendit
  2. I've been waiting in line at a local store just before they open on the day after a ammo truck arrives. The store limits boxes to 3 total per customer (was 3 per caliber per customer). I wait 30-45 minutes before they open and always get mine. .22, 5.56, 9 mm all come in regularly now (wasn't that way 2 months ago). There has been SOME easing in the supply/demand problem because shipments are trending bigger and ammo is lasting longer through the day. My guess is we will see things slightly easing as summer rolls on then by mid-fall we will be caught up. Sendit
  3. I just re-read the email I received and the person I contacted told me it would be the third Sunday in September -- so the 15th apparently. Also supposed to be 6 stages just on Sunday. Sendit
  4. I've looked and can't find anything there. I contacted someone out that way and they said "they need to get a sign up sheet going".
  5. Hey Bryan, Are you going to have gear for sale for us to check out at the NWMGC? Sendit
  6. I got caught short while bird hunting once.....once. Now I'm happy to lug a box and a half of shells around so that I don't have to watch my dog point over and over with no shots fired. I'm not sure he ever forgave me. Sendit
  7. It's not that important, but I summed the round counts and got 129 for pistol. Rifle and Shotgun totals were as stated. Sendit
  8. I wouldn't run my coyote rigs without an adjustable because of the suppressors. I don't think they are a necessity for a 3gun rig though (shooting without a silencer). However if you do use one I don't know why anyone would use the set screw type now that the Syrac is here. OOOOOOOOOOooooooooor you could buy a new Colt and have a finger adjustable system. Sendit
  9. I don't get too hung up on "silencer" versus "suppressor". I use the terms interchangably, along with "can".
  10. The waist is true IMO. The croch rides higher than some styles (like Blackhawk), so they may not be best for big-n-tall. The length ... well they will cut to length. Sendit
  11. Thanks for the tip. I can't seem to find any that fit with that Railmaster light. I might have to switch to the Lightguard version or a Surefire.
  12. Do you find that's the case with a standard gas block or adjustable? I don't run an adjustable. I run suppressed on my SBRs 10.5" & 11.5" as well as my KAC with their intermediate gas length system. It makes long range steel much easier to call/hear hits that's for sure. Down side is how freaking hot they get. My first time out with my can, ran a stage, tabled to rifle. Went to pick it up and 1/2 the table came with it, had a vinyl top... Since then all of the paint has been shot off I only use adjustable and don't think my recoil is any worse than a good brake. I can see my hits on steel typically. I also had a "melt down" on a stage where I could run one. They had astroturf or some green fake outdoor carpet on top of the spool. I came back after the stage to get my rifle and it had green goo all over the can. Just had to get a paper towel, get the can up to operating temperature again and it wiped off.
  13. Do you find that's the case with a standard gas block or adjustable?
  14. That's a good rule. Unfortunately one I've gone to a couple of times has not allowed them. I'm thinking that might turn as suppressors become more mainstream.
  15. I'm a big fan of suppressors for predator hunting and recreational target shooting. I've also noticed that some matches do not allow suppressor use, which seems counterintuitive to me. I realize that not everyone owns a suppressor, but suppose you did. Would you prefer to be allowed to run one in a match? For purposes of this survey assume the timer will pick up the last shot even if it is suppressed. Sendit
  16. In the recent Crimson Trace 3GMI I found myself at a disadvantage because my holster did not accomodate the light I had mounted on it. Is there a preferred holster out there for this set up? Thanks in advance. Sendit
  17. Same here on both counts (got at NWMGC & used first time at Tricities). They worked great. I didn't use the knee pads and didn't feel like I needed them on the course. These are tough/comfortable pants. Sendit
  18. Nice landing! I give it a 8.5! A couple of weeks ago at the Seekins Precision Tricities Trigun match I did a nice belly flop off the "roof" set up they had on a stage. My foot slipped as I was leaving the "roof" and down I went. Rifle remained pointed down range and finger out of trigger guard as I was moving (much like falling during chukar hunting). I got a good "oooohhhh!!!" out of the gallery LOL. No DQ and I had a decent time on that stage. Sendit
  19. It sure was. That was nice location -- great scenery. The ROs were professional and sharp. There were enough stages with "curve balls" -- or roofs or bb guns or 500 yard bonus targets -- that made it tough but fun. Sendit
  20. No this is after you take the stock off. The spring is in that tube that's left attached to the action and the nut that keeps it on is tight. Thanks for the replies. I have a vice with rubber jaw inserts, so I'll see what I can do. I guess if I apply the heat I'll know right away once I reassemble if it will run or not due to a potentially weakened spring. Sendit
  21. Besides applying a decent amount of torque, is there any trick to getting the nut to break loose in order to access the recoil spring on my M2? Is there locktite or something holding it on? I don't want to break anything. Thanks.
  22. Nope, not joking. I am realistic about my abilities, though certainly not leveraging positive self talk while under stress of malfunctions during a 3 gun stage. I know my strengths. My self image is intact, regardless of how I shot a particular stage. I hear you if your point is to remain positive at all times. My skill at remaining positive and focused while practicing skills necessary for 3 gun are under development. While related to positive self talk I see that as separate and distinct from self image. My pistol shooting needs work. I have not put in the time, and I understand the concept of 10,000 hours in a very direct and personal way having deployed it elsewhere. Proficiency will come, and I cannot predict when. I welcome it however, and know it can arrive any time. Regardless, as yet I cannot snatch the pebble from the hand of Master Po. The good news is that I am one day closer. Weedhoppa ps - thanks for the perspective Mr. Anderson
