  1. I've got two choices for an upgrade, the dillon 550B or LnL ap. Il be loading 9 mm, 40 sw, 45 acp, 223 and 308. I don't do thousands of rounds just a few hundred at a time. I don't care about speed just accurate ammo especially for rifle. Any suggestions?
  2. Whatever you decide, don't buy the loadmaster. Biggest frustration I've ever had. I only load 100-200 rounds a week and plan on a Dillon xl650 next year at tax time. The LM is very finicky and yes they do work but im tired of the constant tinkering.
  3. BrassManBrass or CT firearms. I buy Lapua in 308
  4. Looked at the 650 at Scheels-WDSM today.. one word...SMOOTH!!! I don't think id be happy with the 550. Thinking of using the lee case feeder, the only thing I like about my loadmaster. Lol
  5. Thanks for the info. Im kinda leaning towards the 550 but like the auto advance.
  6. So everything aside, sounds like the 550 is a better buy if you don't need the casefeeder. But I do like the auto advance of the loadmaster that I have.
  7. So will I ever have to FL size or will neck sizing alone get me by?
  8. I have a loadmaster by Lee. The press doesn't prime unless a case is present. What happens on the 550 if there's no case present?
  9. So once my brass is fired formed, I don't need to FL size? Doesn't your brass ever stretch too much so it won't chamber? Im a newb to reloading rifle and so far all that's changed has been my case length and the shoulder hasn't moved much.
  10. So would you neck size in the 650 and change dies when you need to fl size?
  11. i reload for 308WIN. i use the redding deluxe die set with the competition shellholders. i measure the shoulder of the brass using a rcbs case mic. the brass is trimmed to 2.005" and the once/twice fired brass measures 1.631-1.632" at the shoulder. i use 42gr of varget powder. so to maximize case life...... should i neck size till the cases dont chamber, then FL size to bump the shoulder back 0.001-0.002"? will i honestly gain anything doing this? im planning on buying a 650xl and would enjoy reloading 308 on the new press and keep the single stage for back up. i only reload 40-50 rounds of rifle when i go target shooting. ive thought of buying the 550B because i dont shoot alot as of now but like the full auto index of the 650.
  12. If i neck size only, after awhile the brass wont chamber in my bolt rifle. thats when i fl size and bump the shoulder. i currently have 3 reloadings on my brass and still going strong. Id fl size all the time but want to extend the brass life as long as possible. but ive also heard that it doesnt make a difference between neck sizing or fl sizing.
  13. I shoot a bolt action Savage Model 12 heavy barrel. That's why I was asking about neck and FL sizing. I do both. Neck size till they don't chamber, then FL size to bump the shoulder back.quote name='Cotys' timestamp='1337346406' post='1707530'] I do it all on the 650. It is so mush faster than doing a single stage. It depends on the volume you plan to do. I use a toolhead for the first pass (size and deprime). I have a couple of dedicated toolheads for sizing(.223, 300 Blackout)for this first step, and I have one floater that I use to swap out the rest of the calibers for size / deprime. I keep a dedicated toolhead for 2nd pass, loading. I still do full length resizing, but I'm shooting an HK-91 and it is killer on brass. Here's my process: Case Lube Toolhead 1 Station 1 - resize / deprime Station 3 - blank (should be using my RT-1200 to trim here, haven't bought the die) Tumble off lube with corn media Inspect / trim Toolhead 2 Station 1 - Lee universal deprimer (remove corn media from flash hole) Station 2 - Prime / powder charge Station 3 - Powder check Station 4 - Seat bullet Station 5 - Lee factory crimp
  14. I'd like to use the 650 to load 308WIN. Would it be best to either neck or FL size off the press using a single stage, then prime-powder charge-audible powder alarm- visual check- bullet seat? Or could I neck size and do the rest on the progressive and make almost match ammo? I only FL size when I need to bump my shoulder back. I do this to get max brass life. How do you guys set up your toolhead for reloading 308WIN? Thanks in advance, Tim
