I started out in USPSA with an XDm 4.5 in .40 shooting Production. Gravitated to loading .40 minor because why not, then gravitated into 3 gun, then Limited Minor. I like my pistol, it runs, and has been plenty versatile for me. Basically I took the advice I got on Enos from day one, run what you have.

Simply put, drag races in 3 gun are fun. But so are low crawls, and climbing on top of things to shoot. Variety is the wonderful thing about 3 gun. This is like any other aspect of 3G competition. Everyone has their own opinion.

Lots of guys use GoPro or something to record their runs. Personally, even after shooting a few years, I don't want the distraction. That said, I still like someone to get a video of me on a stage or two. If someone else records your run, just make sure you're not taking them out of their game, it's safe to do so, and the RO is OK with it. JMHO

I see. The local evil genius that makes us sling up always has in WSB that magazines are out of rifle and pistol, shotgun empty if not in use. Pretty sure a hot slung weapon would make me nervous, too. Although inconvenient, it does speed things up not having to stage guns, though.
-
I cannot imagine why a slung long gun is dangerous. But, we spend a lot of time practicing loading, dry fire, and other drills. Just spend some time transitioning with a sling. I like my swivels on the side and sling across back muzzle down on right hip.
-
I like Federal AutoMatch, because it runs in MY guns. YMMV
-
I just attached a swivel stud to the clamp. Actually may dispense with the clamp altogether unless a sling is required.
-
Because "3 gunners" are the rock stars of the shooting world, silly!

My Miculek comp works well, and the price is right. Kinda solves your cheap issue.

Gotta say, nobody is beating a path to my door offering support and free stuff. But my focus is having fun and helping out the new guys, so I'm good.
-
Why not just have a longer tube? Excuse my ignorance, but since almost every rule set has some starting load limitation, I'm not seeing how a ghost load is of any advantage if the shotgun requires a modification.
-
Enlighten me as to the advantage of this "ghost load", please.

The smart money takes what Mr. Kelley says as gospel

Nonsense Sir!!! Danger is the spice of life. Always has been and it always will!!! Variety is like oleo bread spread.
Pretty sure you and I are the only ones that know what oleo is.

As it turns out, I'm in too...

That gives me an idea. A match that's like a trail of stages, and you pack everything with you that you need. Lol, probably not a new idea, though. And it wouldn't be very inclusive. But it would be a fun day! And a nightmare to administer.I'd shoot rather shoot one 600 second stage for a match score than 30 stages that were 20 seconds.
Not quite sure how I'd carry that much ammo though...... May need to call for a resupply about 1/2 way through.
-
What type of 3 gun match do you like? Technical? Longer stages? Hoser? Mix it up? I like like it all, as long as I'm forced to use all 3 guns.
-
Jesse, I actually mean what size choke. I dont want to put too tight a choke in and shoot a slug through and blow my gun up.
LM works for me
-
Rule of thumb, carry on your belt/vest enough shells to complete the stage.

Thanks!

What's a good way to take care of and clean the threads in the barrel? I generally just lightly spin a boore brush or tooth brush around and then light oil. I see from a previous thread, antiseize or grease may be better than oil, but my concern is keeping the threads in good shape. Thanks.

JMO, if 3GN wants to attract the new and uninitiated shooter, there should be a "store bought" division. Like Jesse said, 80% of rifles sold are M4 type carbines. Most of my friends that want to try 3 gun only have a stock store bought carbine, some sort of hunting shotgun, and a plastic pistol. Pretty sure the policeman from Alaska has a division similar to this.

Well, you can always do like my son, he is 6'6", 230# and wears 32" inseam. But he is 17 so you can figure how he wears his pants....

Awesome!
Slings technique and WHY!?!?

As an aside, rifle should be slung muzzle up if you have to sit in a mud pit.
