  1. Unlimited ammo = your tax dollars at work I'll keep an eye open for a used steel master, looks interesting
  2. I was having a discussion with a friend of mine today who has a gun junkie needle deep in his vein. He is looking for an excuse to buy another gun. He can shoot very well, I'd guess he would translate into high B class speed with above average accuracy. He has created a situation where he has unlimited ammo and gets to show off against his peers periodically. He asked my opinion on getting the fastest, flattest shooting 9mm and he isn't afraid to spend a little or lot coin. This amused me because he already has a Trojan 9mm, USP Expert 9mm, and wiz bang G17. As a practical matter, my thought was to pimp the Trojan - trigger job, tungsten guide rod, and he brought up a comp. I can't imagine anything much faster or flatter, but I'm a simple caveman who got married to the USP and stopped paying attention to the latest greatest. Anything out there that costs less than 2K-ish and could smack the Trojan around?
  3. Funny, Flex. I ask because they said it was a specific magwell issue, and... Factory gun, no magwell. 5.2" bbl, the 6"+ bbl is the Elite model. It is more than a little annoying to have your gun of choice specifically excluded due to a magwell when it is available without the magwell. I have standard USP 9mms that I do shoot, but it is similar to the G17 vs G34 thing. The expert has another inch of sight radius, another inch of weight out front, etc. C'est la vie.
  4. OK. I like the USP Expert. I would like to shoot the 9mm in Production since I plan to shoot the 40 Expert in Limited - no problems there. It is specifically named as not being allowed because of the factory magwell, which I can remove in 10 seconds. From zee book - HK45 45ACP (32 oz.), HK45 Compact 45ACP (28.2 oz.), P 30L 9mm (27.6 oz.), P2000 (22 oz.), P30 9mm (25.6 oz.), P30L v3 9mm (28 oz.), P7 (28 oz.), P8 (25.3 oz.), USP 45 Auto (30.4 oz.), USP 9mm (27.1 oz.), USP Compact 9mm (25.5 oz.), USP Compact .40 S&W (26.4 oz.), USP Compact 45 Auto (28.2 oz.), USP Compact Stainless 9mm (25.5 oz.), USP Compact Tactical .45 (30.1 oz.), USP Tactical 40 .40 S&W (32.4 oz.), USP Tactical 45 .45acp (32.5 oz.), USP Tactical 9mm (29.2 oz.), USP40 .40S&W (29.2 oz.), USP9SD 9mm (28.2 oz.) Tactical models in DAO only. DAO DA/SA models only. USP Expert and Combat Competition not allowed due to magwell. So, if I take off the magwell... Thoughts?
  5. Well, apparently I'm a unique snowflake... but I will shoot my first match with the USP 9CC this Sunday. Got my Bladetech D&0 and removed teh jet funnel. I've got a fresh "B" class card and high hopes.

    please do update.
  7. The Comp/Com is just a regular 9mm USP with better sights, a jetfunnel, and either a match DA/SA or LEM trigger. It spec's that the jetfunnel is the problem, which can be removed, leaving you with a USP 9mm with a factory trigger and sights. Can anyone confirm the LEM's legality before I order holsters and what not?? The LEM is as double action as a PAra LDA or DAK, same principle.
  8. I run an 11-87 police with an 870 shell carrier... runs slick as can be, recoil is nil, sights are great, big dot safety is impossible to miss. I love that gun. I had an 1100 for years that never missed a beat. Clean your guns and they will run fine for 200-300 low brass shells. Mine has never choked on high brass.

I firmly believe that Glock, S&W revolvers, and 1911s form the holy trinity - but the HK competiton LEM trigger is exceptional, the accuracy is fantastic, the reliability is as good as machines get... I'm seriously considering shooting a USP 9mm with a comp LEM trigger in production, and there is no doubt in my mind I will do as well as I would have with my old G34.
  10. Greetings, all. It has been a while since I shot USPSA but I'm getting back on the horse. I sold my Glock 34 rig a while back and was considering which direction to go - Glock, Para LDA, etc... then I shot a HK USP Combat Competition 9mm and I fell in love. I am aware I can not have a magwell - not a big deal, the jet funnel is easy to remove. Is the rest of the gun legal? The factory competition LEM trigger is my specific concern. It doesn't appear it is a very popular gun in production - any reason other than cost of the gun/mags vs the other poly pistols?
  11. Anyone shooting one, sans jet funnel, in Production with the LEM trigger?

    Inquiring minds want to know...
  13. Greetings all - Found this little guy in a commander I bought - Was told it was a Sprinco, but after looking at pictures of tehm, I doubt it is. Interestingly enough, it uses a regular spring and plug - the plug depresses the unit as it travels to the rear. Thanks!
  14. I took an online class - the Patriot Class - and built a 1911. The place I felt it fell short was fitting the barrel - we used a Kart EZ fit, and I want to learn how to fit a "regular" barrel. Anyone know of a good reference? I have the Kuhnhausen, Brown, etc materials... I'd really rather a DVD or something that addressed that issue directly, step by step, and I suppose in a video format. And if any smiths in Louisiana have any apprentice type offers... Paul
  15. Thanks VERY much for all your help. I'll get a new bag soon - lots of research to do, but it seems the suspects have narrowed considerably! Paul
  16. Greetings all. After using my "large" Glock bag for almost two yers it has given up the ghost... I've seen some serious competitors at matches with purpose built bags that look like backpacks - any idea what these are, make and model? I usually bring at least 3 or 4 HGs to the range, up to 6 or 8... and lots of ammo, at least 300 rounds, often more, and of course mags, hearing, eyes, etc etc. I want a big bag. I will spend what I need to spend, just looking for a bag that is exceptionally functional AND long term durable. Paul
  17. I can't believe no one has said... both! I've got a 9mm trojan and a .45 standard config custom caspian. I am thrilled with the new division... this and production are the only divisions I really want to shoot. I plan on shooting a lot more in 2006, and will probably focus on the 9mm until my speed/accuracy ratio is where it needs to be... FWIW, in my 9mm the mccormick 10 round 38 super mags are 100% with ball ammo. To the creators of the division - GREAT job. It is the only reason I'm shooting a 1911 in USPSA.
  18. 99% of STI stuff is great without question, but the LS guns are supposedly hit and miss as far as reliability. I'd look at a custom commander sized gun... I've recently talked to Nowlin about a 9x23/9x19 combo gun (two barrels, one gun) commander sized, with the ed brown bobtail. IMHO, an ideal set up and Nowlin is very reasonable for what you get. Paul
  19. Hello, Mr. Langdon... Not only can he give TGO a run, TGO is here, too! FWIW, I never really "got" the thing about recoil, letting the sights set back down, etc until... I fired my new S&W 642 about 100 times at the plates (47 feet away). Then I pick up my STI Trojan 5.0 in 9mm. I actually laughed. It was a huge breakpoint for me. I realized I could think a LOT while the gun was recoiling. And do stuff. The first few times after the transition, I swear it felt like I had time to turn to my shooting buddy and say - Man, this thing has no recoil compared to that revolver! Then turn back and W A I T for the cycle to finish. Bear in mind this is a gun I ran 1500+ rounds through at Thunder Ranch. I KNOW the gun. But it took breaking up my normal cycle a bit to see just how easy it was to shoot, if I let it be easy to shoot!

    G37 for Spec Ops?

One G37 had two, countem two, stovepipes - factory winchester I believe. Another 37 had a barrel locked up so tight the factory armorer banged on it for the better part of an hour and couldn't get it taken down. Not sure on the ammo there. Paul
  21. Got it yet? Installed? Played with? Realistic? Inquiring minds want to know!!!!!

    G37 for Spec Ops?

Don't be so sure. I just got back from a GSSF match. The *only* guns I saw having problems? G37. It is half baked. Maybe if they put it back in the oven it will come out without a fat slide. Paul
