  1. I've got an STI Trojan 9mm that is a "practice gun" that I've thought about shooting L10 with. I'm not out to win nationals or anything, but I do like to be in a position other than dead last. Does anyone shoot minor and actually win? Thanks!
  2. Thanks! I had a feeling. So you don't actually have to yell out Alpha Alpha Charlie MIKE Grassy ass! I will be buying Brians book at a minimum, and soon. I don't have any desire to shoot limited or open, or to be a GM. I just want to be a better shooter with my Glocks and 1911s, hence production and limited 10. I was toying with a Para LDA in production, but in hindsight, no reason to do it. A G17/34 will work fine. If I could create a division, it would be limited 8 - single stack 1911s, no extended mags... and the targets would have paintball guns, and if you got hit, you'd be Dq'd!
  3. pardon my "newbieness" but some of these terms are unfamiliar to me. What exactly is "shot calling"?
  4. I'm new to USPSA but plan on shooting - a lot - in order to get better ASAP. I'm lucky enough to be five minutes away from a nice indoor range with steel plates at 20 yards. I have an STI Trojan 9mm I bought with the intent of shooting it "until the wheels fall off" to get better and faster. FWIW I'm planning on shooting production with a G17 for the time being, and eventually some limited 10. Will simply shooting plates (I'll be using a Pact mk4 while practicing) do any harm per se? I'll be able to be able draw there as well... I'm thinking 2-3 times a week, 100 rounds at a time, and mainly plates, though I can shoot traditional paper targets as well (but can't draw on those). Paul
  5. I've had very good luck with Jacobson's barrel crowns. My P14.45 cut its groups in half after he did his thing... Paul
  6. hopalong - I think you nailed it. I was surfing this sight and the USPSA sight same day, and forgot about those articles. THANKS!!! http://www.uspsa.com/nf/site_navigation.html I don't know if that link will work, but there are some excellent articles under Tips from the GM Paul
  7. I saw (or thought I saw) a great article on this board about working out your eyes that involved dots, said it may cause a light headache, etc. I've done a search but I'm not finding it. I have great vision but feel like my target acquisition time needs decreasing - anybody know where the thread I'm talking about is located? Thanks for all the info so far, this board is amazing! Paul
  8. I'd be shooting USPSA Production. I'd hope that recrowning would be allowed... the fiber optic sight is nice but not necessary. The trigger job - thats a MUST Must fix what ain't broke
  9. Sincerely appreciate that feedback. That was enough to say thanks, but no thanks. Makes sense... considering how long it takes to fit one, I'll stick with a sure thing. Paul
  10. Thanks for the responses. I've used Teddy Jacobson in the past with great success and I know he works on the LDAs, so that is probably where it would go for the 5.1 lb job So a P18.9 with a 5.1lb trigger job (polishing only) and a fiber optic front sight (maybe a barrel recrown? It did wonders for my P14.45) gets the job done? Do you have to use factory extractors, thumb safety, etc?
  11. Greetings, all. I think the Caspian "speedbump" grip safety looks pretty good but I've yet to see it on a gun. Does anyone have good pictures (hell, any pictures) of the speedbump on their blaster? Paul
  12. Thanks for all the replies. I played with an LDA yesterday and that reset is VERY long. Many factors... I guess there is no free lunch
  13. I'm in Louisiana with family in San Antonio, so I'm getting while the getting is good, cost wise. I can drive to SA and stay there with free room and board. It is a little over an hour each way but it is worth it for the cost savings. Once TR moves, I'll get to Gunsite... But the trip will cost 2X as much. Looking forward to TR in Oregon as well, and I hope to get to Frontsite sooner than later as well.
  14. Single Stack, LOL you are right, #1 and #2 were reversed. Thanks for all the hellos! Regarding a S_I - nah... I roll my own. I just finished a beauty - traditional 5" single stack - but I'll build my own when the time comes. I bought the STI 9mm for practice because it is much cheaper to buy than to build (and saves me about 60-90 hours). My new baby... it is out at Gunsite having a finish applied I'll put it through the paces at Thunder Ranch in May. So far, accuracy and reliability have been good to go, no malfs and shoot straight. Caspian upper and lower, Kart barrel, parts are mostly Caspian, Ed Brown, CMC, and a S&A beavertail... this pic is in the white. Paul
  15. I'm new to the sport, shooting a G17, but prefer the 1911 platform. I'm wondering how many people shoot Para LDAs in Production, and are happy about it...? If I go this route, I'm also torn as to which direction to go - 9mm since it will be scored like that anyway, or .45 so that I know the steel will fall when it is supposed to fall I don't "do" .40 S&W Thoughts, experiences, opinions? Thanks much!
  16. Hello, everyone. This looks like a great forum. I'm new here, but I'm "pangris" on all the other forums as well. I've just joined USPSA and my local club (East Ascension Practical Shooters right outside Baton Rouge, LA). I shot my first sanctioned match last weekend and had a great time. I'm not new to shooting - I've been around the block and am returning to Thunder Ranch for the fifth time next month - but I'm a babe in the woods competition wise. Right now I'm shooting production class with a G17. I am VERY tempted to buy a Para Ordnance LDA but I want to get some feedback on that idea #1, and get my feet wet and get classified #2. I'll probably keep using the Glock until then at a minimum. In the meantime I'm waiting on my Pact Mk4 to arrive and STI Trojan in 9mm to practice, practice, practice. I want to shoot limited 10 as well, but the competition there looks a little rougher. Just wanted to say hello and introduce myself! Thanks for providing such a wealth of information.
