  1. I would like to thank Mr. Luth and everyone else involved for working thier butts off to put on a great match for everyone who attended. The stages were alot tougher than last year.. which is a good and bad thing.

The prize table was awesome and I`m also glad they did away with the lewis system, and you went up in the order you finished.. you want to go up sooner.. shoot better. That said...It was mentioned earlier about course layouts. There were way too many 180 traps. They are trying to bring new shooters into the sport, and setting them up to get DQ`d is not the way to get em back. Yes... they are limited to how they can lay a stage out, but there is no reason to set up stages like they did.. on the ones in question..2 and 7 come to mind. The RO`s on stage 2 were awesome.. they went out of thier way to make sure you were safe and HAD FUN, the guys on stage 7 were way too full of themselfs. They did say with a smile they had already DQ`d 7 people on thier stage, ( and I was also there and he did brag to another RO about "how many" he had ) and I witnessed one and it was marginal at best. The shooter stepped into the box and went to port arms.. you could tell he was farily new and they whacked him right off.. not cool at all. What was wrong with telling him to keep the muzzle downrange? I heard a few times while moving thru to watch my muzzle, and I was nowhere near breaking the 180, and I heard it thru most of my squad as well. What was wrong with moving the barriers another few feet towards the rear of the range? That would have alleviated alot of the problems.

Also, the situation tewlman mentioned about the reshoot on stage 5.. what the RM said to the shooter was total BS ( again.. I was standing right there when he said it to him ). What difference does it make if your shooting for first or last place.. if the range wasn`t set up the same... why shouldn`t you have the same chance to shoot as the rest of the people who have ran thru the stage???... showing up to shoot and expecting a prop, staged weapon, ect. to be there and it`s not will just totally blow the stage for you no matter who you are. For the RM to say that was total crap. That just ruined any credibility he had with me as being a top RM. Last I knew there was only one set of rules for the match.. not a different set for the "top 5" and the rest of the fill ins who come to donate our time and money so the "top 5" can get some good prizes.

As far as the rest of the match.. the squad I shot with was great.. Steve, Steve, and Tony.. it was definately a blast shooting with you guys. Next time I`m gonna bring my dog training collar for a certain member of the squad.. so we can zap his ass when we can`t find him. :) I`ve already got my entry ready for next year.. see ya there.

  2. They specified on the sheet I got that there is 2 hits on target for minor caliber and 1 hit per target for major..must have changed that up.

I sent Dennis Heath an email with some questions.. but he hasn`t responded to it yet.

As long as I can get away for that weekend..I`m gonna try to shoot it.. just got to see what the schedule is like.

  3. The HK mags are much better than any other steel bodied mags and well worth the money. You can push anywhere on the follower and the whole thing goes down.

You can load 30 into em and still load with a closed bolt.

The magazine article was in SWAT mag in August 2003.. written by Pat Rogers. Goes into detail about the mags. They retail for about $50 and as soon as I get em in.. they are gone.

  4. Have any of you guys ever shot this match. I`m interested in going down and shooting it.. just want to get a bit of insight as to what to expect.

The 11th annual North Carolina Recon shoot is coming up on June 25-26 2005. Oxford, NC

    Contact, dennisheath@att.net

    $150.00 before March 1st.

Day one is carbine and pistol.

Day two is shotgun and pistol.

Recon format, you must carry all of your gear all day, no resupply except for water.

This is a good fun match that is casual. Prize table is OK but no guns or real big stuff. It's a good one for new shooters because it's challenging without being intimidating.

    Thanks,

  5. Thats what I was thinkin.. the breeching charge or ram might make some noise.

It`s Chandler as in Iron Brigade Armorys Lt. Col Norm Chandler. He builds my bolt guns. I`m up in Michigan snowed in.. I am bringin my MK11 out to Mesa.. Stopping out in NM at Dave Wheelers place for a couple days to practice before the match.. need to stretch its legs a big. We can put a few rounds thru it out there if ya want, I`ll just bring more ammo.

  6. Matt,

Got the dvds for xmas from my girlfriend.. good job.

I do have one issue, not a complaint or anything just want to point something out. I sell Police and Military Special Ops gear. I get questioned all the time about the snaps and velcro thing. You prefer snaps over velcro on mag pouches so if your sneaking up on someone they don`t hear the velcro pulling apart when you go for a magazine.. all you have to do with a snap is cover it and quietly unsnap to get your spare mags.. which makes sense to a point.

Here is my question.... If your on a "mission"

#1 Why isn`t there a magazine in your weapon?

#2 If you do have to go for a reload and you did have a magazine in said weapon... where did all the ammo go that was in it?

Wouldn`t expending all those rounds make more noise than velcro tearing negating the need for a quiet reload. I`ve never been able to figure that out.

Great videos.. look forward to the shotgun ones.

  7. We were talking about the mount the other day and I don`t remember which one he said hes using. I do know it`s not the LaRue though. I do remember Paul at MSTN saying thier new Acc-u-point mount was almost complete. Soon as I can get my hands on one, I`m gonna try one out and see how it compares to my ACOG and JP iron sight set up I`m using now.

I`ll talk to him when he gets back from Nationals and get the scoop for you guys.

  8. Yeah Flex is correct.. he shoots for SVI..not STI. He is shooting ESP with a SV 9mm. He got a good laugh out of all the comments on this thread. We talked about it the other nite.. especially liked the spandex and cape idea. :)
