  1. I'm sure it was, hence the Ruger "Alaskan". Sure wish I lived there.
  2. After talking to my bullet caster guy I'm rethinking the Taurus. Seems Taurus came out with an announcement that their Casull can not handle Casull chamber pressures of 65,000 PSI and recommended keeping the pressure at 50k or below; he referred to it as a "poor mans Casull". Thinking about that bit of information reminded me of the Judges that have been blowing up lately. If I buy one I want to do some 100 yard target shooting so I don't want to be limited by a weak frame or have to be concerned about the frame failing. I called Ruger and they wont state a chamber pressure number but I know they make strong guns, so much so that most reloading books have special Ruger load data, so I'd be more comfortable with a Ruger but the one with a 7" barrel is a butt ugly gun and a 2 1/2" barrel doesn't make for a good 100 yard gun. So I may have to go with more affordable strength and throw looks out the window. Apparently the only one you can bet money on is a Freedom Arms and that's way out of price range.
  3. You're like me, I don't like scopes either (my .45's are all Kimbers too). I put a red dot on my Ruger Mark III and ended up taking it off and putting it in the cupboard; it's just not me. I will be getting the 6.5" barrel, the longer one is too much. I had a S&W 629 44 Magnum with the 8+" barrel; great shooter but too much barrel.
  4. If you won't shoot it much...pick one that is pretty. That's funny..... Well lets face it, nobody takes a .454 Casull to the range and fires off several hundred rounds like I do with my GP 100's at steel targets; I was just being honest. But when I do shoot it, I'd like to have a respectable group for all the pain. LOL Thanks guys.
  5. I'm looking to add a .454 Casull to my wish list and wish Ruger made a .454 with a longer barrel that didn't look like it was an Alaskan with a pipe glued to the end of it. This leaves me with Freedom Arms which is more than I want to spend for a gun that will largely be a show toy or S&W, again $$$$ or Taurus Raging Bull which fits the bill in all ways but I'm not a Taurus fan. Does anyone have a Raging Bull and how do you like it? Smooth action? Nice trigger pull or easily tuned? Or looking for any other suggestions. If I lived in Alaska and frequented the wild encountering bears and other dangerous game, it would be a different story. But then a .454 Casull would probably be one of my first handguns. LOL
  6. I have 2 GP 100's that I tuned myself to a 2 1/2# S/A pull by just changing out the springs with a Wilson spring kit and polishing up the sear and hammer surfaces with a Dremel Tool. I shoot steel with both of them D/A and they're both great shooters. I don't have a gauge to measure the D/A pull but it's over 8 but has a real light feel. The other guys who shoot with me are amazed at the light D/A pull feel.
  7. Cant find it that cheap, where are you getting it? I'll let you sniff a bit, then I'll hook you up. PMC if you can stand it,is under $30 per 1K. Should have told me, I found it for $65.00; sniff a bit.
  8. I'm using Titegroup and using the lightest load recommended on the Hogdon load data page: 3.6 grn. 1.125 OAL I'm concerned about rising pressure as well. Anybody else got any wisdom on this? 9MM and 40's are fast bullets for a handgun (not being a magnum load) and the way they get their speed is an ever increasing pressure from a slow burning powder. Titegroup is not far under Bullseye which is a real fast burning powder. An ideal powder for more authentic 9's is something like Alliant Power Pistol or even Unique which is a little faster than PP. Now before you become offended because I said you're not using the right powder, I load my 9's with Bullseye but shoot them only at steel targets because the recoil is lower and with less powder on a progressive, they load faster. I load my target rounds with Unique because I get better accuracy results and I already inventory it. This is just an FYI.
  9. Don't worry about it, the bullets are all disassembled and the authorities will handle the quality issue. I'm just putting it out there so people aren't surprised if they have problems. Many people love them, others fit into my category; it's what makes the world go around.
  10. In business when something went really bad and someone asked how it went I said "Unbelievable" and left it at that. It was perfectly true and wasnt a downer to speak.
  11. I have a framed picture on the wall over the desk in my office picturing a man running down a desert like road alone that says: "To truly become number one you must constantly strive to surpass yourself, not the competition" I lived by that strategy and in my professional field was recognized as number 10 in the Country; not bad. The idea is if you're looking at the competition, they are the highest you will ever go and your eyes are off the superior goal; you want them watching you which will always be from behind you.
  12. That makes sense. People speak of the speed of the 22-250 but as I look in the loading book, there isn't a lot of difference between the two and believe me I'd rather be loading a cheaper cartridge in my retirement income. Now for accuracy what headstamp am I looking for or just keep them the same? For my straight wall shells I use Starline, who makes a good rifle shell?
  13. Singlestack I like this answer. I'm putting together my wish list for a longer range rifle myself since a couple of years ago I joined a club with a 300 yard range; all I had was a Ruger 10/22 with a bull barrel, so my challenge was to hit a 22 x 22 target at 300 yards with it and I did. Hooked on the distance challenge, for now I have my heart set on a Savage 12FCV 22-250 which has Accustock and Accutrigger which at Buds Guns isn't a bad out of the box price (I'm on a retired budget). If I could find a 1,000 yard range I'd love it but 300 yards seems to be where I'll be spending most of my time. I'm a tight group nut which is why I get off so much on reloading. What do you think?
  14. Hi everybody, this forum was recommended to me as a good group of people that don't pick fights like so many other forums; it's hard to find a good forum these days. I've been shooting since I was 12 and reloading for about 40 years; I love it all. I shoot mostly handgun, some rifle and every once and a while trap. I shot a lot of trap back in my 20's when you could afford the components. It's hard enough being retired and maintaining a 15,000 round inventory of center fire ammo...I'm ready. I look forward to swapping knowledge with you guys.
  15. How ironic that this thread is in the "recent posts" list the minute I sign up. I cant say enough to warn people about Missouri Bullets, I've had nothing but trouble and worse that the troubled alloy is the malicious behavior of the owner who threatened to post my personal information on the Internet when I asked that they make good on the bad bullets I got from them. This explains it pretty well: Google Missouri Bullets "Hardness Optimized" and select the thread in the PAFOA Forum to see my post there, with pictures, on my Missouri Bullets 9MM problem. I'm new and cant post the URL yet. If someone who can will post it, it would be appreciated. I tried shooting them through a good half dozen 9MM's and not a one would fire them without jamming or dangerously excessive barrel leading. If you search the gun forums, you'll find barrel leading the leading problem with users that aren't part of the posse of Forum Infomercial Posters like on The High Road and The Firing Line. My complaint went to the Federal Trade Commission and when I called to add information to my complaint, they said they didn't need anymore as the guy has already violated the law. My best bet for a refund might be the Postmaster General as he boasts of being the premier chef of alloy and labels his boxes with the Brinell Hardness of the bullets which you'll not find one in the box that is close to the specified hardness. If you're looking for a good lead bullet supplier, PM me; the guy I buy from has many distinguished shooters that use his bullets exclusively and he supplies bullets to one of our armed forces competition teams; he knows his stuff. I don't want to get in trouble for advertising a vendor unless that's OK. This is my first post so I'm not up on the customs but was recommended to come here as there is little fighting for the purpose of fighting and being right. Too many forums lose their value after a band of "Good Old Boys' takeover and control what's right or wrong. PS The post was issued an infraction because Missouri Bullets band of posters complained that unfavorable information is posted but it's all true and factual; even the BBB complaint which you can click on the link. I filed an additional BBB complaint based on breach of contract after determining the BHN of the bullets.
