  1. Working on new website. Dave is busy with deep programming stuff, I get the less glamorous "content" side. Currently spicing up: http://new.practiscore.com/support/ Feedback welcome on suggested FAQ items. Bonus points for writing them! Post here, or e-mail me (ken@niftybytes.com) Ken N.
  2. Be careful a PSC file exported represents a complete match to PS, it only merges when synching, on an open it overwrites. Now synching could be done here, as an option, but it isn't yet. As a work around, do the open on a spare device, then synch it in as normal.
  3. Instead tell us how to make clubs.practiscore.com to your liking.... or... donate some engineering time to it (-:
  4. Well, you're not avoiding having to use ezws to upload, as you never did use ezws for the actual upload process. You just went to the website, pointed at the activity credits file on your computer, and uploaded that. What you're doing here is avoiding having to use a real computer. Me, I'm still going to want to get a copy of the match .psc file over to my computer for backup purposes, so I might as well bring the activity credits upload file over as well and just do a normal upload. Now does this other app allow you to do an on-the-fly upload? Sure, but again, I want my archival backups. I think I'll still be registering folks in ezws and bringing them over to ps. PS STILL can't match ezwinscore's superior drag-and-drop squadding interface. And even with a bluetooth keyboard, having to constantly come off the keyboard and poke the screen, then go back to the keyboard, repeat as necessary, is a pain. (Some of you all complain about ever having to use a mouse, going back and forth from screen to keyboard is my complaint.) Also, the new roller controls (used for putting in things like division, class, power factor, squad, etc) flies up from the bottom but is so small and understated compared to the larger fonts of everything else as to be difficult to manipulate. Can we restore the previous appearance of these controls? Squadding... Testing some big changes in this on the iOS version. Do you have a spare iOS device we can test flight a test version to?
  5. Apple laughed at me when I approached them about a bulk purchase. Thousands would yield maybe a 5% savings.
  6. Currently. We just got agreement to do this, so it's planned for sometime in next few weeks.
  7. This has always, unfortunately, been the case. We send classifications over, but ezws ignores them. The step missed is to do a classification update in ezws prior to generating the results. Or steal or borrow an iOS device, synch, and do your activity report from it directly with no ezWS needed. (-: Regards, Ken N. P.S. Note that you should do a classification update in PS as well, just to make sure the data is right. It's easy, but does require internet, so do it where that is available.
  8. I don't recall feedback on clubs.practiscore.com, so if you have some, send it along, now is a good time. I can't really imagine a simpler way of running long term registration and match business needs. I and 20 or so test clubs have been using it for quite a few big matches and small. But I'm open, I may have missed it, but we can't fix what we don't know about. Just introduced a new club to it Friday, for a big summer match, and they picked it up right away. On Android and stability...no idea here either. When a stability issue is found or reported, we fix it, immediately. And because Android can be updated quickly, users get it fast. That's different than new features, or iOS vs Android features, which I will let differ to a small amount, or I may not prioritize as some would, but anything affecting a match accurate result or fast result is treated like an emergency. It's quite rare though. So if something is unstable, share, or update. (-: Ken N.
  9. I hate to say this but given that numerous classifiers were just retired you may want to pull it again and remove the retired classifiers. I've added a mantis item so you guys will know which ones to pull. Right now that won't affect it. Next release, though, if connected it will get classifiers from online database that can be updated without needing to do a new release. I
  10. On one master 2 networks at same time... It cannot be done, at least not in a way that would yield the benefit desired. The only thing I can think of would be to have an authorized device and a feature added to automatically switch between networks, find the master and synch, and switch back to the public network. Since the majority ranges now have 3G coverage I don't see prioritizing this since we can push to the cloud and they can sink from there.
  11. Thanks. Embedding is intended, like Youtube and Facebook provide. This thread is intended for feature requests primarily about the web but other items will leak in, and I don't mind at the minimum discussing it. In this case, synchronizing with only authorized devices is fairly simple based on things we've already added, so I don't mind adding it to support clubs that have limited resources, Or aren't technically savvy to set up the sort of network my range has. Doing something like this won't slow down the web improvements, which largely go to other engineers. The next technical front in the app itself will be better support for open squadding. I have ideas here that I hope will be simple, not require range connectivity, and that will actually make open squadding an attractive option for clubs not doing it currently. Some of our most active clubs such as Rio, Norco, and even some matches we run on my range are not using practiscore as efficiently as they could if we had better support for open squadding. At a minimum the changes I am contemplating will make registration for existing squadding approaches painless and quick. In an effort to keep from creating infinite thread as was the first practiscore thread, I will start a thread specifically for open squadding improvements sometime next week.
  12. Sorry! I had to developer reject it three days ago because we found a crash on older iOS Devices such as iPod touch and Gen two iPhones. We resubmitted it and if I had to guess, I would expect approval on Wednesday or Thursday. But Apple does as Apple does. We also took advantage of the resubmission, to make the keypad on smaller devices as large as the entire screen. We had made it larger but we thought of a way to make it ginormas, something of keen interest to me as I approach my 50th year. Ken N.
  13. I prefer the secure net solution. With competitors synching from the cloud. That said, I know it isn't viable for all places. We will cogitate and figure out approach that can happen pre-match and is simple to do solely within the app. All cloud connections are moving to https with next website update. Ken N.
  14. I faced a similar problem at area 2 where the network was open. Dozens and dozens of devices were on the net. My view on this has been that scoring devices should be on a secure network limited to match devices. But I understand that passwords leak and that networks sometimes need to be shared. My intent here is to extend the existing Match password setting to be optionally required for synching. One successfully used that device would show up in a list of trusted devices. How does that sound? My apologies for writing terse replies, I'm recovering from hand surgery and have only the use of my left hand for a couple months. Yes that means no shooting but compared to the difficulties of being one-handed in day-to-day life that isn't a big deal. Unless you've something else in mind, not the model I'd want. I want competitors to be able to sync, I just don't want to see them in the sync list. I would prefer to pre-qualify the devices I can see. Something like when I sync the stage devices from the master, I can register their MAC address with the iPad (which is really the only direction I see going for sometime. Android stage devices, iOS master devices). I only see devices with the MAC addresses I've approved. Or perhaps instead of the MAC address, it's a magic word that doesn't get transferred as part of the sync. But whatever the case, I want the ability for competitors to sync from stage devices. I just don't want to see those competitors. OK. So having an option to show only trusted devices would suffice if I understand correctly. Then we just need to figure out an easy way to make them trusted. My thought was that they would enter the password on their device it would flow over in the pairing protocol showing trust and would be in the list. There are some complications in that the device could be on the network with a different match. I will discuss internally and make sure to Post what we come up with.

  16. Good idea. Added to list. Note that we are also embedding Word press into the website as well. All people creating accounts including clubs will have webspace Already on the list was embedding, ala youtube Facebook and other content providers
  17. I did. found a crash on iOS 6.x iPod touches It was resubmitted today it'll probably turn around pretty quick 2 to 3 days
  18. I really hope you are using OAuth [1] for FB, Twitter and Instagram. Shouldn't be too hard to make USPSA to be an OAuth host too. [1] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OAuth I'm assuming Google account will work too? I know Google was doing something with OAuth but I'm no web developer so... can anyone clue me in? Google is one of the oath options
  19. Yes. I use it at club matches. I'm using it at our club championship, which will have about 80 shooters right now. And MG Nats, right now. And a small LEO 3-Gun we are running next week. It's pretty flexible, it even works for SASS matches and training events where you want to squad people. Anything I can do to have people registered, squadded, and paid before 0800 registration helps a club match flow in the AM. It also has Stripe integration (for credit cards) with 100% flow thru to your account (it takes nothing). And an automatic e-cart, I used it to sell a bazillion shirts at area 1, in advance, easily. You can view this, loosely, as Ken in a Box. What I mish mash together for a match or club I run (or help - I help 3 or 4), typically enters the system. So it has email notifications, a blog, a store, registration, squadding, so forth. This results effort is the final step before taking that out of beta and making it freely available. Ken N. Ken N.
  20. Yes. Each club will have a home page with their match results, their matches available for registration, as well as a way to sign up for notifications (via text or email). Each competitor will have their own page as well, with their results (where we have an identifying common thing (like uspsa #, 3gn#, phone, email or other) in the match db. The searching will also be improved to find matches, competitors and clubs more readily. Ken, Do I properly interpret your answer above to mean that clubs will be able to simply announce their upcoming matches or will competitors actually have the ability to sign up or register for those matches on PractisScore? If it's the latter that would be a huge benefit for our club (a service that we would probably be willing to pay for). Good luck with the surgery and recovery. Jim S Clubs will create a match, when registration date arrives, competitors will be able to register, with most form data being automatically filled. Then on the PractiScore side, a simple pin # finds the match and brings the registration in. This actually already exists and is use, in our beta release, all over the world. I've used it for last 2 Area 1, and also Nationals, and now MG Nationals. Also, we intend to provide a way for clubs to upload match/stage information (even stage diagrams). In source (for sharing) or PDF. Ken N.
  21. We are toying with a Shotmaxx timer hookup. Will post as we learn more. Generally, we are intending to add social media type contexts. I know that I use Facebook for this, as do many (most) of us. But it's burdensome to our non competitive friends. So the system, as we are envisioning it, will integrate discussion and social connections in at the shooter, club, match, and stage level, and include "liking" or "following" clubs, matches and sharing of photos, videos, and match results. So you will be able to "like" Ken Nelson, follow "SUPS" (my club), which will then notify your feed of scores/news/vids from Ken Nelson, matches/results for clubs, so forth. The project name is "Practical Book", although it won't be called that once released, it just be practiscore.com, only behaving a lot differently when you browse it. I've got hand surgery late tomorrow afternoon, thumb joint replacement. So I'm up late enjoying my last night (for a while) as a productive right hander. Tomorrow, left handed awkward ness takes over for 6 to 10 weeks. No shooting for 4 months at least (-: Ideas welcome… keep them coming! We meet AM thru lunch to finish plotting all this, and all ideas will get due consideration. Ken N.
  22. I really hope you are using OAuth [1] for FB, Twitter and Instagram. Shouldn't be too hard to make USPSA to be an OAuth host too. [1] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OAuth That is the intent on our side. I recommended the use of OAuth with USPSA login as well. I discussed it briefly wit Rick (their new web dev) last month, and he knew and saw the merits of it. So I suspect that will be what's done. Ken N.
  23. Jim, Auto-syncing isn't terribly hard to do. We may just do it… but there are risks. I, as a stats officer, do certain things before I sync. PS shows changes that have been made, and if it doesn't look right, I don't synch. But we may do it, if just by popular demand. It could easily be a PractiScore device setup to synch every X minutes, or anytime a new pad shows up. It would require a secure network, to keep fluff off the system. However, looking at the goal, of secure data without paper, I think our logging approach, where any score edit is logged locally and to the cloud, is much more secure and beneficial because we have a complete audit trail of scores, when they were changed, how they changed, and by what device. Also, with the cloud server then delivering the score to the shooters contact info via SMS or e-mail, they get a copy of the score themselves, with no risk of transcription error. Now, of course, auto-synching on top of logging is perhaps the best of both, so we will discuss an auto-synching version tomorrow. But I don't view it as a data backup panacea, in that it can propagate garbage rapidly. I'm super pleased to have discussions like this… in many way a system coming in assuming wifi coverage is not a luxury we had when planning PractiScore. Even for the upcoming MG Nats, or the recent Gator Classic, we still have to deal with sites that have no wifi at all, and often no cell coverage. The system still has to work then, or in a modern facility, in the case that wifi breaks. Regards, Ken N.
  24. USPSA, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram logins will all be ways to establish accounts/identiy on PractiScore.com . Club uploads will be tied to club creation which will be confirmed. Once a club is created, that admin can make other admins, so forth. Club admin from the USPSA side will flow in. 3GN, should be same, IDPA not sure yet. I'm actually in Burlington next week, with our web dev lead, to make all this click (as well as help them with some internal stuff they are working on). Ken N.
  25. These are in there in the club management web side - any data you can think of you can capture, and match registration has a way to include your liability waiver (for instance we are using this at MG Nationals registrations). Clearing… so that implies you are looking at it more from a club perspective than a match perspective. For instance my club does waivers once a year.
