  1. Thanks for the info. All my mags have Dawson pads on them. I considered Wolff springs. But, the "must be fitted" line on their web site brothered me. I may try Grams springs. But, only as a test in the off season. Arredondo springs were a complete failure (with their followers). One was so bad that after removing it from the body, I attempted to stretch it out to tie it in a knot. And It broke in half with very little effort. The guys I shot with (that were chuckling over my frustrations) were as surprised as I was. I seen a lot of input on just sticking to the factory springs even with the Dawson pads. And, the combination seems to work the best, so far. Thanks again, Now where did I put that Brownells catalog . . .
  2. I need to buy some magazine springs for the P16 HiCaps. After reading other threads and some bad aftermarket experiences, I have resigned myself to sticking to the factory spring. However, I can't find a source. Any help ????
  3. Capt, I use Precision's Moly Coats in both 40 and 45. And their worth the extra cost. No Lube to mess things up. No leading in the barrel Less wear than jacketed. I can't believe that the Moly alone is responsible for the wear in the cases cited. There are many other variables in the manufacture of bullets that would also cause damage. Not to mention gun care. Before I started using the Moly Coats, I used an electronic bore cleaner to remove all the lead from my barrel.
  4. Thanks for all the help. I put the P16 on "ICE" this weekend. It fit like a dream (like a good woman . . nice and tight). All my magzines have been changed to Dawson basepads. (WOW what a great combination) The mag release is on the way. I took out the plastic one to look it over and I have to agree with the prevailing arguements about replacing the plastic. I bought the Dawson extended mag release in Stainless. I'm going for the two tone look. All the replacement parts will be stainless or clear anodized Aluminum. This off season I'll be looking for the trigger work and the new safeties. If the money holds out, new sights too.
  5. A friend of mine has a springfield 1911 in 9mm. I shot it last week. I was surprised at how light the recoil was and the accuracy. He just started reloading on a 550RL. I believe he's using WW231 with standard jacketed 115gr bullets. At about 15 yards I was able to dump the whole mag (9 rds) in the A zone in about 4-5 second. The trigger was smooth as was the mag release. I'll try to get more info on his loads for you. The highlight of the shooting session is when my shooting Chrony decided to quit. We both had numerous loads to check and the Chrony couldn't see Sh*t. I tried everything; new battery, sky screens, adjusting positions. At the height of my frustration I used his 9mm to put it down like an old dog who's time had come. Then we used it for target practice with the AR's. BTW . . . . DNR Sports has the best deal on a new Chrony F-1. $57.54. Here's the URL: https://www.dnrsports.net/miva/merchant.mv?...y_Code=chronchr
  6. Who said anything about cutting metal. I'm talking drop-in Mods. I have yet to find a "gunsmith" that hasn't FUBAR'ed one of my guns. Last thing I want to do is wreck another one. The guy I'm waiting on has some national recognition for quality work.
  7. L10 - C Class, Single Stack Colt Gold Cup Trophy, with McCormick Mags 45ACP. CM mags are available, cheap, and very reliable making it easy to get started in L10.
  8. OK, Let's make this real. And the reality is that the gunsmith that I would like to do the work is not going to be able to work on my P16 till the off season. Now, what would you do first. Knowing you had to do the work, without screwing up the gun. I have an idea of some of the things that I could do. But, it's not always straight forward. Example: I add shock buffs to all my 1911's. However, the P16 is the first gun I owned that would not allow the slide to lock open, on a empty magazine, with the standard wilson shock buff in place. What's needed here is "gun-tricking 101 for idiots". I'm sure others may benefit from your responses.
  9. This gun was made after the 1994 ban went into effect. It was one of the few choices I had that still had the HiCap certificate with the gun. BTW Para still honors the Hicap certificates. The front strap on this frame is round. This is all great feedback. I've been shooting L10 with a Colt Gold Cup for the last 3-4 years. And have little to no experience with Para. The information on the plastic mag catch and the problems with the sear were a bit of a surprise. Keep it coming.
  10. Hey TXAG, Did the "Pre-Ice" magwell go on without modifications to the frame? Does the Ice require any modifications?
  11. Here a chance for all you "old farts" to help customize a new, in the box, stock, Para P16. This is a mid 1990's vintage, not a new limited series/style gun. If you were allow to make only three modifications to a P16 to make it competitive in Limitied Division. What would they be in order of preference? Note: I have all the HiCap Mags and extended base pads (some Dawson, some Arrendondo) I need. I'm Guessing: 1. New Trigger 2. Beaver tail safety and 3. Magwell What three modifications will give the biggest BANG for the Buck? Thanks for your help !
  12. Thanks for all your help. Unfortunately, the NIB P15 I won on AA.com (at a great price BTW) was reportedly destroyed in shipping from a shop in the south. Anyway, I found a P16-40 in PA with a HiCap certificate (also at a great price). The P16 will probably work better in the long run. Now I get to spend all kinds of cash on accessoies and modifications. Thanks again DVC
  13. Here's a suggestion from someone who hates drilling holes in stuff. I use Pachmayr rubber base pads on the bottom of my Chip McCormick 10 round single stacks. They are rubber molds around a brass base. The brass gives you extra weight to drop free faster. You can screw them on or do as I did. I use 3M VHB (Very High Bond) foam double sided tape. It's a structural tape about 0.030 thick and is very aggressive. I've had them on my mags for four years now without a single failure. In all weather conditons and cleaning situations. Good Luck.
  14. Any feedback on BUL M-5 Mags for use in a P16? Good/Bad/OK?
  15. Does anyone have experience using Para 45 ACP mags in a 40 S&W gun? I'd love to hear details/warnings/advice.
  16. Thanks for your input. P15 is to the P16 for Para as the Commander is to the Government model for Colt (I suspect). The frame/grip/magazines or the same for both models for Colt. I find it hard to believe that Para would be any different. To build two different "lock up" mechanisms seems a waste of good engineering.
  17. I have a Para P15 in 40 S&W for which I have only 10 round magazines. I would like to know what my options are for getting Hi Cap magazines. (Other than buying a P16-40 pistol.) Since I have little experience with Para Ordnance I'm looking for help. Some questions, I have, are. 1. Will P16-40 mags fit the P15-40 frame? 2. What aftermarket solutions are available? 3. Are there any factory HiCap P15-40 to be had? Thanks (Suggestions Welcome)
