  1. My MBX mags crapped out at A6 this weekend. Salt shakers. The were being universally cussed all around the range. Many were also commenting on the compile lack of response from MBX. I went back to my SVs after the third stage when the went shaker.

I think it is pretty simple. The tubes and base pads are legit. The followers are questionable and the springs are junk. I am gonna put grams guts in mine and use them for practice mags.

  3. ZZt, true. But you're assuming mags in front. I've left mine on the side. Again, partly because i shot production so long my arm natually goes there on a reload, so instead of trying to break that motion, i just left them there. Plus, on the off chance of a prone stage, no need to worry if they mags get moved when you're on your chest/stomach.

FL open last weekend, they had a bed stage, start position was chest flat on the bed. I heard a few people had yard sales of mags when they got up because they got bumped while laying prone.

    Granted, this doesn't happen often.

It really comes down to personal preference. I would never tell a guy doing bullets forward he was wrong, and if someone told me bullets out was wrong I'd laugh in his face. Like a lot of other things with shooting, try both ways yourself. Take the info you read on the interwebs, like you've seen above, and use it to shorten your learning curve. Someone else has already invented the wheel, see what they say and determine if it applies to you.

    Good luck to the OP.

    bullets out is wrong.
    To Do List:

1- Punch Shady right in the throat at the next match.

  5. Good luck. We had a latest, latest, latest super upgraded everything crap out 4 days before FLOP. I put the slide ride back on my gun. I am done with the RTS2's. They don't work, they will never work. I will revisit micro dots if Leupold Ever releases the Deltapoint Pro.

  6. So if the comp is designed correctly you will not need holes in the barrel

As I said, broad brush and broad brushes are rarely accurate.

Some comps are designed with popple holes in mind and work as a system. You aren't the only one who has shot and tested more than one. Again, broad brush.

  7. it's a step closer, though just 4 calibers in two models. given the choices, I would say with confidence that these new guns will sell to guys considering sv. will it put them out of business? No!

Doubt that. People considering a $6000 pistol aren't suddenly going to decide to but a $3000 pistol. On their best day, STI is not going to build a comparable pistol to an SV or an Akai, Brazos, etc.

  8. Regarding dismounting the gun when moving...

That really depends on you. For me, if I am taking over 2-3 steps I will dismount the gun ( still keeping it UP) and pump my weak arm. You will need to figure out that threshold for yourself.

  9. Couple things...

    1. nix the music on videos you want help reviewing
    2. I counted a butt load of extra/makeup shots in your videos. What were the initial hits and did you NEED those shots because they really hurt your HF.

    3. Get the gun up. You lose a couple tenths on every position bringing the gun up to your eyes. You literally are moving with the gun at your waist.

All in all you look pretty solid. I would guess low to mid B class? If you would get yourself a little more under control and stop all the extra shots, your score would increase dramatically.

  10. You want as fast of a lock time as you can get. Faster is always better. I don't recall the numbers but the lock time on a standard AR trigger is 2.5 times that of a rem 700 trigger, and the 700 trigger is 1.5 times slower then the Tubb bolt gun is. What all this equates to is more time between you pulling the trigger when breaking an offhand shot and the bullet leaving the barrel. It matters less when shooting prone and from position but it does matter. Its much the same why that you have to follow through more with a .22 then a center fire target rifle and follow through is even more important with an airgun as the rifle is moving while the pellet is in the barrel. Id give one a whirl...

Faster lock time is good (all else being equal). Agreed. But their claim (which lacks any supporting information) is disappointing (and to some it's also unprofessional and consistent with suspect marketing practices).

What is the ELF lock time relative to a (fill in the blank with any/all of the high-end AR triggers)?

    Data please, not hyperbole.

Correct me if I am wrong, bu tit was in one of their videos where they said something about lock time. They also said they had been told by "someone" that they "thought" it was the worlds fastest. They then went on to say it hadn't been verified but were hoping to have proof soon. I am going from memory so hopefully I got this right. I see if I can find the actual video.

  11. First...IMO, unless you have a complete hunk of trash, you can make A class with anything. Me getting a new gun (build EXACTLY how I wanted it) pushed me over the top to M.

Regarding popple holes, I wouldn't shoot a gun without them. When done correctly, they make a good gun better.

  12. Oh they are taking over? Where all the major matches I shoot at and locals I see none. It's my opinion. 38 is far superior to 9mm. Your opinion is different than mine.

9 out of 10 Open guns built today are probably 9's. At the Majors I shoot at and the locals around here only a few dinosaurs shoot 38. I tried to keep a count at the last Area match I worked but it was so overwhelmingly obvious that 9MAJOR was the caliber of choice that I quit counting. Have talked to many 38 shooters who said the only reason the keep shooting it is they don't want to spend the money to rebarrel and rework their 38's.

    38 is a dying breed.

Since the mods have already homed in on me that's about all I'm allowed to say. I won't argue the point any more.

Ok, so you've established that 38 is a dying breed and most people shoot 9major now. But other than brass cost, no one has stated an advantage of 9 over 38 super/supercomp. Still want to know as I am new to open.

Other than cost of brass, there are zero advantages for 9mm. 38 vs 9 is a very regional thing as well. Where I shoot, there are 10:1 38:9 Someone is is trying to state their bias as fact when they say 38 is dying. If there was a single advantage to 9, every single shooter on the Open Super Squad would be using 9.
